00:00Every meat eater is actually being subsidized, greatly subsidized by every non-meat eater.
00:10This is injustice, this is direct stealing of money, pinching of money from the pocket
00:17of the vegetarian or the vegan to subsidize the meat eater.
00:22When you eat meat, when you eat chicken, you are actually not paying for the environmental
00:35damage that your plate of meat has caused, you are not paying for the climate change,
00:46you are not paying for the biodiversity depletion, you are not paying for the loss of tropical
00:56jungles, green cover, nothing, none of that has been factored into the price of your tandoori
01:05chicken.
01:08But the cost is enormous, so somebody is bearing that cost, who is bearing that cost?
01:14Whole population, meaning just to help you have your chicken, everybody else is paying
01:24the price.
01:26So if you are paying rupees 200 or 300 for your plate of chicken, its actual price should be
01:36maybe 800 or 1000.
01:39And it is gross injustice, that the thing is being offered to you as a subsidy.
01:48So there has to be taxation.
01:51There has to be clear commensurate, just taxation.
02:04Two things I talked of, culture and fiscal measures.
02:12Then there has to be education.
02:14People have to know, people have to know what milk is, people have to know what meat is,
02:20people have to know the entire cycle.
02:23People talk so much about the right to information and everybody is so curious these days.
02:31People want to gossip, people want to say no, we want to know everything.
02:34First of all, don't you want to know what is going into your body?
02:44So that has to be made known.
02:47Secondly, it has to be made known that agriculture as such is not the absolutely holy profession
03:07it is made out to be.
03:09Very very people know, very very few people know, that probably around two thirds of all
03:19agriculture, rather three fourths of all agriculture is just to support meat eating.
03:25Now you will wonder what am I saying?
03:29You will wonder, right?
03:32People think of farmers as some kind of pursuers of a most noble profession.
03:41They say, you know, you should be a farmer, especially in India.
03:48Everybody is talking about poor farmers and this and that, everybody is talking of upholding
03:53farming and I support that, any person who is in need, needs to be supported.
03:59But the field of farming, the entire industry of farming, the entire sector of agriculture,
04:08it has to be seen in perspective, we must know the facts, truth has to be exposed.
04:18Out of every 4 kilograms of grain that comes out from the farmer's field, 3 kilograms goes
04:26towards feeding animals, so that they can be slaughtered and the meat eaters can have their
04:33meat.
04:34That is the reality of agriculture.
04:42On one hand, we talk so much about preserving forests and if forests go, then the habitat of
04:50so many species just disappears.
04:53You need not physically eliminate those species, you just need to cut the forests down and those
04:59species are gone.
05:00Now why are the forests disappearing at such a huge rate?
05:06Do you know even as we are talking how many acres of forest has been cleared off in the last
05:12one hour itself?
05:14Can you even imagine?
05:15Can you even imagine?
05:16Now go find out.
05:17You will be startled.
05:18Even as we are discussing this, at an unimaginable pace, trees are being felled.
05:28Unimaginable pace.
05:29Why are those trees being felled?
05:31So that there can be more agriculture.
05:35That agriculture goes towards feeding the ever increasing population because we cannot live
05:39without kids.
05:40Further, we cannot live without our chicken wings and chicken burgers and mutton this and
05:49beef that.
05:51We do not even know that to get 1 kilogram of chicken or mutton or beef, you require probably
05:5920, 30 or 40 kilograms of grains.
06:02So most of the grains that is being raised in the farmer's fields is for the purposes of
06:08meat.
06:09That is something people must know.
06:16You cannot just blindly keep on talking of agriculture as something so holy and pious and natural.
06:28Are you getting it?
06:32Even the kids, the kids, the kids, reach out to them.
06:40It has to be a holy war.
06:43You have to, pardon me my language, invade schools.
06:50It is a battle for the mind.
06:56The kid must grow up knowing fully well that it is monstrous to kill an animal to eat it.
07:10And that would require a change in the entire value system of the kid.
07:17Veganism cannot succeed if you just keep talking of animals.
07:23You keep saying, oh it is bad to look at animals as a commodity, it is bad to exploit animals.
07:30If man is exploiting man, why will man refrain from exploiting animals?
07:35So veganism has to be holistic, comprehensive.
07:42You may not like it to hear it this way, but veganism has to be basically a spiritual movement.
07:50Veganism has to be a movement of compassion.
07:53And when compassion comes, you will not be compassionate towards merely the animals.
07:58When compassion rises in you, then you will be compassionate towards everything, everybody
08:05and yourself.
08:07First of all, you will cease to be cruel towards yourself, which most people are.
08:14So veganism needs to broaden its scope.
08:28Want can have it nesse sentido?
