Tiny home project transforms the lives of vulnerable women

It cost participants tens of thousands of dollars, but a project that saw vulnerable women contribute to building their own tiny homes has found success. The Eden Tiny Home Project provided $55,000 to 15 women to help them build a house on wheels, in a creative way to address the housing crisis.

00:00When I was trying to find somewhere for us to live, every time we'd turn up there would

00:10be like a hundred people trying to find somewhere.

00:14I felt like I had this continual anxiety inside that was just rattling.

00:22And then I saw the ad in a Facebook group.

00:27The advertisement for the Eden Tiny House project was very vague.

00:33It didn't have a great lot of detail about who these people were or their motivation behind it.

00:38I thought it was a scam, but I applied anyway.

00:43That's my bedroom, so I'm actually going, I'm actually going, I'm actually going.

00:47Around the time I was turning 60, I realised these women I'm seeing on media who are homeless,

00:53I actually do know that's going to be me.

00:55I've got a fan and an air conditioning.

00:57That's when I really started to panic.

00:59And then I found out about the Tiny House project.

01:04We started with having an idea, seeing a need and having a go.

01:10That great Australian phrase, give it a crack.

01:13And we were totally overwhelmed within the first minutes of that post being live.

01:19It was the shittiest application, but it worked.

01:22So now I've really got to figure out how to do it.

01:25So then we have a little fireplace, will be about here, and the kitchen will be in there.

01:31This project was an experiment for us all.

01:34The Tiny House will be in this corner where that big guava tree is.
