00:02So this is the first time we've heard
00:04by Lamar Condon's version of what happened that day
00:07that Jesse Baird and Luke Davies were killed.
00:09Now, firstly, the 31-year-old is accused of intentionally shooting
00:13both of those men, Mr Baird being his former partner
00:16and Mr Baird's new boyfriend, Luke Davies,
00:19with his police pistol in Mr Baird's Paddington Sharehouse
00:22in February 2024.
00:24The Crown's case is that he went there
00:26with the intention of killing Jesse Baird
00:28and then also killed Luke Davies,
00:30because he was a witness to the crime.
00:31He has pleaded not guilty
00:33and he has argued this happened in self-defence.
00:35For the first time today,
00:36he talked us through his version of what happened.
00:39He said he went to Jesse Baird's house that day
00:42to retrieve clothing, a Cartier ring and a surfboard,
00:45which he claims he left in the back of Jesse Baird's ute.
00:49Now, that is key because he says he bought a surfboard bag
00:52in the lead-up to going there to get that surfboard,
00:55which he claims he left in Jesse Baird's ute.
00:57That surfboard bag was then later used to dispose of a body.
01:01He had his gun on him in the holster,
01:04he claims, because he didn't want to leave it in the car.
01:06He said when he got to Paddington,
01:08he saw an Uber Eats delivery motorbike.
01:11He took the helmet, the Uber Eats bag and a high-vis vest.
01:15He said he made the decision to pose as an Uber Eats driver
01:18so that if Jesse Baird answered the door,
01:21he wouldn't recognise him,
01:22he wouldn't have a confrontation
01:23and he'd be able to just walk away and say, wrong house.
01:26He claimed that he only wanted to enter the house
01:29if he knew that no-one was home.
01:31So he said when he approached, the door was open,
01:34but he assumed it had been accidentally left open.
01:37He knocked on the door.
01:38He claims he then went inside.
01:40When he realised people were home,
01:42he ran upstairs and hid.
01:43He then thought that they had left,
01:45came downstairs,
01:46was confronted by Jesse Baird in the kitchen,
01:49who he claimed, he told the court, was holding a knife.
01:52He claimed they then had a struggle
01:54because Jesse Baird didn't recognise him
01:56because he had the helmet on,
01:57that Jesse Baird lunged at him with the knife
01:59and that in an attempt to get Jesse off him,
02:03which he said he had a knife near his neck,
02:05he told the court that he then pulled out his gun
02:07and said, drop the knife or I'll shoot you.
02:09He then claims that he aimed the gun
02:11at Jesse Baird's shoulder and shot him.
02:14He then said the pair both fell
02:16and in falling, the gun then went off again
02:20and shot Jesse in the head.
02:21He said that he accepts he was responsible for his death,
02:26but that it wasn't intentional.
02:27The gun then went into the living room.
02:29He claims that when he turned around,
02:32Luke Davies had picked up that gun
02:33and pointed it at him.
02:34They then had a struggle
02:36and in that struggle,
02:37Mr Davies accidentally shot himself with the gun.
02:40OK, so Bola Markondon has also been asked
02:42about what happened after the deaths.
02:45What did he say?
02:45So he said after he realised that both the men were dead,
02:48he then had a panic attack.
02:50He said he began disassociating.
02:52He didn't know if what was happening was real.
02:54He said that he then made the decision
02:56to clean up the scene and move the bodies
02:58to protect Jesse Baird's housemates
03:00from coming home and discovering the scene
03:03and being traumatised.
03:04He then took steps to go and get supplies
03:07to clean up that scene.
03:09He said that he had still intended to call police,
03:11but then was too scared to do so.
03:13So he told the court because he was a police officer
03:16and he feared that if he went to jail,
03:18he would be killed in jail for being a police officer.
03:21He then talked the court through his movements
03:24in disposing of the bodies,
03:25which we've previously heard.
03:27And his intention for doing that, as I said,
03:30was to avoid going to jail.
03:33And he said he was helped by a friend along the way.
03:36That friend has previously disputed
03:38the level of involvement.
03:39He then described how he eventually handed himself
03:42into police when he found out
03:43they were looking for him.
03:44And what happens next in this trial, Leah?
03:46So the prosecution has just begun
03:48their cross-examination of Mr Lamar Condon.
03:51A defendant in a murder trial
03:53taking the stand is quite rare.
03:55So they've now got their opportunity
03:57to cross-examine him
03:58and that will go into much of next week.
