00:00Take a look at this incredible number of planes in the sky at the same time.
00:03It might seem like they're moving chaotically, but in reality, planes have their own roads, just like cars.
00:09The entire airspace is made up of invisible highways and is divided into zones,
00:13with each zone managed by a specific air traffic controller.
00:17This is an incredibly coordinated work involving hundreds of people.
00:20And here's how it works, using a Los Angeles to New York flight as an example.
00:24A few days before departure, the airline develops the flight route,
00:27taking into account the shortest path, air traffic, weather conditions, and fuel economy.
00:32The route is submitted to the air traffic control system for approval,
00:35and then uploaded to the plane's navigation system.
00:38Then, the tower controller gives clearance for takeoff,
00:41while the actual takeoff and climb to altitude are coordinated by the terminal controller.
00:45After that, control is transferred from one enroute controller to another
00:49as the plane passes through different control zones.
00:51Each controller can adjust the route to avoid turbulence or reduce speed
00:55to maintain a safe distance from other aircraft.
00:58All of this makes flights so safe.
