00:01Kyle Duggan, the Canadian Press.
00:03Mr. Carney, thank you for taking our questions.
00:05Your critics are going to say that this is an elbows-down approach,
00:09that you're backing down to Trump.
00:11What are you gaining by dropping these tariffs?
00:14So the first thing to say is, let's be clear.
00:19We have the best deal of anyone in the world right now.
00:24We have the lowest tariff rate on average,
00:26a little over 5.5 percent versus that 16 percent average for the world,
00:31and in many cases, much higher.
00:34We have that confirmed in executive order of the President a few weeks ago.
00:40It's important that we preserve that.
00:42It's important that we preserve that.
00:43Well, we focus on two things.
00:45The strategic sectors, steel, aluminum, autos, lumber,
00:50and we focus on the upcoming review and changes, likely changes to KUSMA.
00:55So we are matching something the Americans have done here first.
01:03And it's very significant.
01:05It's unique.
01:06We get the benefit.
01:08The second thing is, you know, and I'll take your analogy.
01:13And I have played some hockey over the years.
01:18And there is a time in a game, in a big game, and this is a big game,
01:25when you go hard in the corners, your elbows up.
01:28The time in a game, we drop the gloves in the first period and just send a message.
01:33And we've done that pretty uniquely in the world.
01:39We happen to have the best deal with the Americans right now.
01:42I don't.
01:43But there's also a time in a game where you want the puck, you want a stick handle,
01:47you want to pass, you want to put the puck in the net.
01:49And we're moving later into the game.
01:51And we're at that time of the game.
01:53And that's where the engagement is.
