00:38And he joins us now.
00:39Hello, Mark.
00:41How are you guys doing, man?
00:42It's great to be with you.
00:44We're good.
00:44We appreciate it.
00:45Crowder is doing the show from Green Bay today.
00:48He's at the Green Bay training camp in South Florida.
00:53And before we talk about fantasy football and Renegade, I want to talk about the real thing
00:59because the Dolphins' week one opponent is the Indianapolis Colts.
01:03And a couple days ago, they named Daniel Jones the starter over Anthony Richardson.
01:07And I was wondering your thoughts on that decision from Shane Steichen.
01:11I mean, I don't think it's much of a decision.
01:15And I look at the two quarterbacks.
01:17You know, what are you choosing?
01:18I talked about it on my podcast.
01:20You're talking about the turd sandwich with the turd sandwich.
01:22The difference between a turd sandwich with a turd sandwich with sprinkles on it.
01:27Like, neither of them are any good.
01:29So, I don't know what you want me to tell you about either of those guys.
01:35You know, it's one of the problems.
01:37And Channing played for a long time.
01:39I played for a long time.
01:40I'm a 10th rounder out of Idaho.
01:43It's one of the problems with the way we evaluate players come draft time and come combine time.
01:49It's all about 40s and bench press tests and all that kind of stuff.
01:53Show me a guy that runs a fast 40.
01:56I'll show you a guy who's fast.
01:57Doesn't mean he can play.
01:59And, you know, I mean, the top 10 benchers of all time that came out of the combine,
02:04none of them are worth the score to piss.
02:06So, like, you tell me what's important.
02:09How do you really feel about them, Shlera?
02:11Yeah.
02:12But, like, seriously, football is easy for football players.
02:15It's really hard for athletes.
02:17I want football players.
02:19That's what I want.
02:20And, you know, we get enamored.
02:22A guy like Anthony Richardson, you know, he's the greatest athlete to ever come out to play a quarterback position.
02:27He's going to be great.
02:28That doesn't mean he's a good quarterback.
02:30You know, how do you process information?
02:31How quickly can you process information?
02:35How accurate with you are you with the football?
02:38And, you know, the thing about playing quarterback or at least throwing accurately, you can't be accurate.
02:43If you're not on time, you can't be on time if you don't understand what you're looking at.
02:47So, like, we just – our evaluation process when it comes to the draft and when it comes to players is just – it's ridiculous at times.
02:57And that's why we get it wrong.
02:59So, that's why 50% of the first-rounders are busts.
03:01Yeah, Stink, a conversation I've had a hundred times was when you say both be a great receiver, no, he get jammed up at the line and knocked out on his first post pattern.
03:13No, he wouldn't be a good football player.
03:14He's just fast.
03:16But, speaking of the Dolphins, this is something going on right now because they lost Jalen Ramsey and now Storm Duck is their one.
03:24Jack Jones tried to come in and I was at Detroit Dolphin Camp and Amara St. Brown made Jack Jones look like a middle school.
03:31middle schooler.
03:33The thing is that our pass rush, now they bring in Judah and they already had Jalen Phillips.
03:38They have Bradley Chubb.
03:39They got Seeler who led the team in sacks.
03:41They got Kenneth Grant now who's a power guy.
03:43This front seven is going to make up for the cornerbacks.
03:46I'm not buying into that concept that a good pass rush can make up for mediocre at best cornerbacks.
03:56Yeah, I think – I mean, I think that, you know, there's – we always talked about having that symbiotic relationship.
04:01Between pass rush and pass coverage.
04:05You know, and in today's game with so much spread and so much three-wide sets and four-wide sets and tight ends who don't block anybody but run routes and running backs who can run out of the backfield, man, coverage becomes such an important part.
04:20The coverage actually leads to the pass rush.
04:23If you can cover long enough, you can get to the quarterback.
04:25And especially when you consider, you know, how the league has changed.
04:29I mean, when I came into the league, man, we threw so many seven-step drops to make your head spin.
04:33Now you don't even have – like, you go in game plans without a seven-step drop.
04:37It's unbelievable the way the passing game is all east and west to the edges, three-step drops.
04:44There was no such thing as a tunnel screen when I came in the league.
04:47It hadn't been developed yet.
04:49So now you've got tunnel screens, bubble screens, smoke screens.
04:52You've got swing passes to the back, screens to the backs.
04:56Everything is underneath the quick, you know, three-step drop game.
05:00You know, five steps without a hitch.
05:02There's very – there's a very limited opportunity to throw the ball deep.
05:07And you look at the quarterback you guys have in Miami.
05:09He had the shortest or the fastest snap to throw in the National Football League last year at 2.42 seconds.
05:18It's just hard to get to the quarterback.
05:21So you damn well better have guys that can jam people up and that can cover and that can press and can do those things.
05:27So I'm with you.
05:28You've got to have a great pass rush, no question about it.
05:30But the bottom line is to create a great pass rush, I think you've got to have some great secondary players.
05:35I'll stick with the Dolphins.
05:37I'll move to the offensive side of the football.
05:39Just genuinely, you know, interested in the more national perspective around this team.
05:45And, you know, even from a fantasy perspective, can you trust this team on the offensive side of the football?
05:51We know Tyreek Hill, H-Han Waddle.
05:53Like, the talent is there.
05:54But we all know it hinges on one thing, and that's the quarterback, Tua Tungabailoa, staying healthy.
06:00Do you trust that he can stay healthy?
06:02Do you trust that this Dolphins offense can make up for maybe some of the deficiencies on that defensive side of the football?
06:09Yeah, you know, I think the issue that I get into with the passing game, and I've done some of your guys' games,
06:15is when it's in rhythm, like, there's nobody better in my mind than Tua when it comes to throwing guys open
06:22or thrown into holes when they're open with anticipatory throws.
06:26He is awesome at that, on time, in holes, and giving the receivers opportunities to just make big plays.
06:34And when you have Waddle and you have Tyreek Hill and those guys, man, it's pretty amazing, right?
06:39The problem is, is when you shut some of those windows down, then I think it becomes a very sub-average quarterback.
06:46When he's under duress or those instant openings, those instant windows, those things that you count on or you rely on aren't open,
06:55then I think that kind of secondary, that ability to move in the pocket, ability to make something happen after those things,
07:02that's where the Miami Dolphins truly struggle.
07:05When they're on time and in rhythm in their passing game, I think they're exceptional.
07:10It's the other things.
07:11When things do get shut down, when you close out those windows, and when you put Tua under some pressure,
07:16that's when things seem to fall apart in this offense.
07:19And I think in the past, they've done a really good job in the construction of their running game,
07:25and I think offensively, they do a really good job schematically of getting advantages in the running game.
07:32But when all of a sudden some of that stuff breaks down, they don't do a very good job of just lining up and saying,
07:38we're tougher, we're bigger, we're badder than you, and we're going to just show you how good we are.
07:42That's not really what their style has been, or that's, to me, where they've struggled.
07:46And with Frank Smith bringing in Darren Waller, who hasn't practiced a bit,
07:53he hasn't even run a route with Tua or anybody else on the field,
07:56I keep saying or thinking it's a bonus piece.
08:00Like if Darren works out, then now it's a bonus piece.
08:03Does he have a chance?
08:05He retired.
08:06I always say, Stink, if a guy's hung it up, he can never take that hanger off the hook.
08:12Like you actually hung up football.
08:13Do you think Darren Waller can be successful, and do they need him to be successful
08:18to really have that offense that Solana asked about?
08:22Well, that dude retired four years ago and didn't tell anybody.
08:26And then he officially retired like three years later.
08:29Like he was retired while he was still playing.
08:32So, you know, I mean, you tell me.
08:35Like I'm 100% with you.
08:37Like he had a year where he was exceptional.
08:40And then it was like, all right, I'm going to shut her on down.
08:44I've done my service.
08:47So, and the fact that he hasn't played or hasn't taken a snap yet,
08:51based on what you're telling me, that does not bode well.
08:55Like there was a time where I thought it was pretty complete,
08:58and I thought, man, this kid's going to be great.
09:00And then it was just like he was done playing.
09:02He didn't want to play anymore.
09:03And so, you know, there are those guys, those guys that get paid,
09:08and then they shut it down and are done playing.
09:11And I'd be surprised if Darren Waller is actually productive this year.
09:18Mark Schlereth is with us.
09:20I want to talk about the Renegade Fantasy app.
09:22Before that, though, real quick, do you think the Dolphins,
09:25because there's all this talk about they're going to be an abject disaster,
09:29but then there are others who say, you know what?
09:31If this is a wild card team, there doesn't seem to be a consensus
09:35on what the Dolphins are.
09:37I'm curious what you think.
09:39Yeah, I've got a hard time because I know, I mean, hell, Coach Mike McDaniels
09:46was a ball boy when I played in Denver.
09:49That's how far we go back.
09:51So I remember him as a ball boy, and I think he's incredibly creative.
09:55You know, there are things that bother me, like when we're going to start
09:58meetings 24 after the hour because we haven't won anything in 24.
10:0124 years, you know, as a veteran player and a guy that played a long time
10:05in this league, that makes me roll my eyes.
10:07Like, that's not going to be the difference between winning and losing.
10:10And so, you know, like that kind of stuff, that gimmicky stuff doesn't sit well.
10:15I just am like, whatever, dude.
10:17But I just think they're talented, and I think they're schematically,
10:22I think they're a tough team to match up with.
10:24I just worry about when your initial plan doesn't work.
10:29And I always talk about this with just the run game in general.
10:34Like, when you're out of rhythm as an offense in the passing game,
10:38can you line up in two tight ends and absolutely bludgeon somebody into submission?
10:44Because if you can do that, then you can get your rhythm back in the passing game.
10:48But it's really hard as an offense just to throw yourself back in rhythm
10:53when things aren't working for you.
10:54And I just don't know that they can line up and play that style of football.
10:59That's pretty fair analysis from what we've watched.
11:03It's what I say.
11:05They couldn't get five yards in the first game against the Bears.
11:08Five yards and three downs.
11:10That's a problem.
11:11It's fair analysis because when they do get out of rhythm,
11:15they're almost impossible to get it back in.
11:19And the way that you put that out there is probably spot on
11:26for a lot of observations that we've heard.
11:28I'm thinking about what Arande says where there's a plan A,
11:32but there's no plan B.
11:33That was pretty spot on analysis.
11:35It just comes from experience.
11:39I've had my ass kicked plenty.
11:41And, you know, and I've had plenty of opportunities to kick some ass.
11:45And the teams, like the teams that won championships that I played for,
11:50we were, it was, it was like, you know, like a dodgeball.
11:55Like, we're better than you and we know it.
11:58You know, I mean, that's how we line up and we just be like,
12:02we're going to run 18 hand up or 19 hand up.
12:04We're going to run down your freaking throat
12:06and there's nothing you can do about it.
12:07And, you know, I always call it the 10,000 hour rule.
12:09I've done it 10,000 times.
12:11You've defended it a hundred times.
12:12I'm better than you and I know it.
12:14And here, let's go.
12:16And so there, there is that attitude that you have to have.
12:20And sometimes when you, you know, are so smart, you know,
12:24that always bothers me too.
12:26In today's NFL, there's a lot of, there's a lot of,
12:29Hey, we need to get in a premium play on offense.
12:31And sometimes, you know, what you need to do line up, go on first sound and say,
12:37this play is 18 handoff force and it's good against everything.
12:41And we're going to shorten your neck for a while and see how you respond as a defense.
12:46And there's not enough of that in the NFL anymore.
12:49Certainly not from the dolphins very much.
12:51Uh, Mark Schlereth is with us courtesy of renegade fantasy.
12:54You can download the app from the app store, Google play today.
12:58So I was telling you at the beginning of the segment, some of the differences,
13:01why, why is renegade fantasy a better way to play fantasy football for fantasy players?
13:06Well, it's only a better way.
13:09If you, if you're a responsibility taker, if you're a victim, like a lot of America,
13:12then you don't want to play this, right?
13:14Cause then you can't point the finger at the fantasy player, the cost of your game.
13:18Um, so like, if you're a victim, don't play on, on renegade fantasy,
13:22but if you like to control things, like you'd like to be in charge and you want to sit down
13:26your running back, who ain't worth the score to piss.
13:28You can do that.
13:29Like you're right in the first quarter.
13:30He's not producing.
13:31You can bench him and go to your backup.
13:33Your quarterback gets hurt.
13:34Bench him, go to your backup.
13:36You can do that throughout the game.
13:38So it gives you the opportunity to be like a coach and be in control.
13:41That's what I like about it.
13:43And, um, and that's what we, you know, spent three years trying to figure out and create
13:47and how we got the patent on it.
13:49Very cool.
13:50So people are taken to it.
13:51They like it.
13:53I think people really like it.
13:55Yeah.
13:55And, uh, it's, it's pretty cool.
13:57So it's, you know, like I said, it's an awesome thing and allows you, uh, no more excuses.
14:02You know, you can't sit there and blame, you know, you can't point the finger at some
14:06running back who's not producing and saying, you suck and you cost me my fantasy league
14:09and I'm going to send you a nasty, you know, an X thread.
14:12Uh, you know, uh, you, you, you, you're in, you're in control.
14:15Bench him drop a set and Bench him.
14:18How about that?
14:19I love that.
14:20That's, that's actually a good tagline.
14:22Drop a set and Bench him.
14:23Yeah.
14:24Mark Schlereth, the renegade fantasy app available right now in the app store or Google play cash
14:31prizes are available in Mark's stinking truth fantasy showdown league, which you can find
14:36there as well.
14:37Mark Schlereth.
14:38We appreciate your time, man.
14:39My pleasure.
14:41Be well guys.
14:42Take care.
