00:00announcement today you know they were like we're going to Voyager K8 and I was
00:05like what is that because like you know I know the schools I've been around to
00:09so many in this and they're like it just opened last year I was like okay there
00:12you know said but they they opened just last year and already are performing
00:18what number three in the state and year one as a school and their popular the
00:24enrollment increase and I know they're continuing to do well here so so we
00:30really thank them for for hosting us and you know sometimes it's hard to keep up
00:34with the Joneses with this school or in this school it's like really significant
00:39particularly in this part of the state we're joined today by our Attorney
00:44General James Uthmeyer Florida Education Commissioner Stassi
00:53Kamutsis I warned the superintendent you know everyone be on your best
01:00behaviors if you're not you get a nasty gram from Stassi he'll send that out very
01:04quickly we do have our superintendent for Osceola County School District Dr.
01:10Mark Shanoff and I want to thank him for not just being here today but being really
01:15a great partner on a lot of important things for our students over the years so
01:19thank you for doing that Jason Broder from the Florida Senate is here Central
01:27Florida and then we have representative Smith Cobb and Stark from the Florida
01:33House of Representatives I want to thank them for being here before I get into
01:38today's announcement I just want to make some some comments you know I have been
01:43out and about asked but you know we had a situation where you had an illegal alien
01:49driving one of these massive semi trucks in Florida was not a license in Florida
01:56had a California driver's license of course and going down the lane and I think
02:02we've all who've driven in Florida there'll be brakes in in the these highways
02:07where it'll be for official use only and that's really for the highway patrol and law
02:11enforcement to be able to get around and do what they needed to do well this guy
02:16thought that he should just try to turn a semi truck around in that and of
02:21course that doesn't happen on a dime so you had a car coming run into it and it
02:27ended up killing three people all from all from Florida and that should have
02:31never happened he should have never been here he certainly shouldn't have
02:35gotten a commercial driver's license from California and you know it's
02:40disturbing too because if you look we have video of this we have photos of this
02:45and he seemed to not like I mean it was almost like you know he's walking down
02:49the sidewalk maybe stubbed his toe just kind of like it was like it didn't
02:52register to him you know what had happened and I'm like that is really
02:56really cold but it raises these issues of in Florida what we've said is we're not
03:03giving licenses if you're here illegally we're not giving ID cards in fact you can't
03:08even do like these NGOs want to issue I we don't allow that we don't recognize
03:13California driver's licenses and so we're creating a situation where following
03:19the law is the right thing to do and violating the law is the wrong thing to do
03:23now California they they do it differently they invite people to come
03:29illegally they provide benefits they provide a lot of different things I mean
03:33honestly some of them get treated better than a blue-collar Americans out there
03:38with their policy so that ends up attracting it creates it creates more of
03:42this and and it's frustrating because here we are in Florida we're trying to
03:46we're trying to do we are doing the right thing I mean in the legislature you
03:49know I've got Jay Broder and these guys have helped us craft these policies
03:53blazing goalie is now the chief financial officer instrumental working on some of this
03:57stuff over the years we've worked really hard on it and then to have like a
04:01California send this guy in and create havoc for our state that's just
04:07fundamentally wrong but what it shows is it can't just be like we do things
04:13right in Florida and somehow that's gonna cure what's happening on the left
04:18coast and some of these other places ultimately Congress has the power of the
04:22purse they do not need to fund you if you're a sanctuary state they can
04:27remove funding from sanctuary cities so stop subsidizing this you have people
04:33that are that are in Congress that are that are that are complaining about what
04:37happened and while I appreciate the sympathy it's like you guys have the
04:40power of the purse you can discipline these states that don't follow the law
04:45and incentivize law-breaking you know you could do that very quickly you also can
04:50address another problem with this situation this guy comes in from India
04:54illegally across the US Mexico border and he claims asylum now think about that you
05:01know it'd be one thing if like you know when people you know would come from Cuba
05:05and they claim a sign because this was the first place they could get to right
05:08and you've had situations where this has happened you're coming from India how
05:14many other countries are you going through and then you show up in the
05:18southern border and say silent like what why didn't you get asylum somewhere else so
05:22they're they're abusing the process and the statutes that we have in the United
05:29States of America and they're trained to do this so you have massive numbers of
05:34people that have claimed that millions and millions have claimed it you know
05:37just leaving country in Central America they're not truly see they're just
05:41vacancy economic migrants however you're doing it and so you have this
05:46incentive so he was basically given some type of preliminary determination I say okay
05:51you'll have a hearing in two or three years and then it gets pushed and then it gets pushed
05:55and all this stuff and it's basically a one-ray ratchet you can come in pretty
06:00much unfettered well in the past you could illegally and then if there's any
06:05type of law enforcement it's like this massive bureaucratic maze that you have to go through and so
06:10Congress can address that too Congress can address the abuse you know that we're seeing and this
06:17asylum process because I'd say 95% of the people that are claiming it just factually do not even
06:25come close to meeting what should be but they do they say the magic words they get an initial
06:30determination they get a court date and you do and that was something that happened with this guy
06:36that came in illegally from India so to have a three people killed so senseless so absolutely enraging to see
06:46this happening knowing that none of this that all this could have been prevented but Florida you
06:54know we've been leading on this we're doing a whole bunch of stuff I think as a lot of people know because
06:58we believe it's important you know that we have law and order prevail across the spectrum but but
07:04Congress you know they they go on TV and they'll they'll complain about stuff you have power the purse you
07:11have power to legislate you can fix these problems you really can fix these problems
07:17and I would just love to see some action um out of the folks in Washington DC now we're here today
07:23uh to talk about uh Florida getting more accountability uh with respect to in this instance supporting
07:31our school districts throughout the state of Florida who are trying to do
