The importance of Filipino teachers in the diaspora and their enduring influence on future generations of students in the Philippines and overseas are highlighted in tonight's program. We are joined by a remarkable woman whose life's work emphasizes the value of global service, early childhood education, and reading.
We are joined by Mrs. Rizalinda C. Labanda, a retired teacher who taught science, math, and English language arts to third and fourth students at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Academy in Brooklyn, New York. She continues to advocate through the Association of FILAM Teachers of America (AFTA), where she is currently the vice president for teaching and research after serving as auditor from 2019 to 2023. Under her direction, AFTA, in collaboration with the Department of Education, local governments, and AFTA-Balikturo Inc., has conducted seminars for K–3 teachers around the country on the science of reading.
