U.S President Donald Trump hosted urgent White House truce talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and key European leaders as the war in Ukraine drags on. The high-stakes summit, described as “historic” and “unprecedented,” saw leaders rip up their schedules to rush into Washington. Zelensky hailed the meeting with Trump as the “biggest ever” and hinted at possible future talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Was this a genuine step toward peace, or just another power play on the world stage? Watch the full raw video with reactions from Washington.

00:21you can let them come in I think we're going to have a successful talk today
00:32please come on in do you guys want to take some questions or anything
00:39hi mark yeah well thank you very much it's a great honor to have you here special place
01:04White House is special no matter where you're from represents so much and it's really is
01:09beautiful and thank you for all of the wonderful things that took place today
01:15we've had a very successful day thus far important discussions as we work to end
01:20the killing and stop the war in Ukraine we're all working for the same goal very
01:24simple goal we want to stop the killing get this settled I've just had the honor
01:32of being with President Zelensky and all of the discussions that we've had we
01:38covered a lot of territory and I spoke in directly with President Putin today we're
01:43going to call President Putin right after this meeting I'm sure we're gonna have a
01:48solid meeting good meeting maybe a great meeting and we're gonna try and work out
01:53a trial at after that and see if we can get it finished put this to sleep because
01:59this is not since the Second World War has there been anything like this so I'm
02:05honored to welcome NATO secretary-general Mark Ruta who's a great gentleman great
02:12great political leader in Europe generally but now he's the NATO secretary-general and
02:18you're doing a fantastic job thank you very much Mark Prime Minister Starmer of the
02:23United Kingdom our friend and my friend and doing really well and people like him a
02:30lot we all like him everyone knows President Macron of France who's been
02:35with me from the beginning one of the first people I met as a foreign dignitary
02:42and I liked him from day one and I like him even more now that's pretty good
02:47that's unusual that's a pretty unusual thing Prime Minister Maloney of Italy who's a
02:54really a great leader and an inspiration over there she's she's served now even
03:01though she's a very young person she's served there for a long period of time
03:05relative to others they don't they don't last very long you've lasted a long time
03:09you're gonna be there a long time Chancellor Mertz of Germany who is a very
03:17strong person and a very strong leader and very highly respected in Germany and he's my
03:23friend and it's an honor to have him as my friend thank you very much very good
03:27you look great with your tan where'd you get that tan I want to I want to get it
03:31and like that President Stub of Finland and he's a he's somebody that where are we
03:40here huh where we're oh you look better than I've ever seen you look but you've
03:49done a great job and we wanted to have you here because you're somebody that we
03:52all respect and you've had a lot to do with the success I think in the potential
03:57success and thank you very much for being here we appreciate it and the
04:01President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen who is somebody that
04:08we just made a big deal with with all of those countries I don't know I think
04:12you might be more powerful and all these guys at this table I don't know but you
04:16we had a great negotiation and you're respected all over the world so I want
04:22to thank you very much for being here it's a great honor to have you the
04:26Alaska summit reinforced my belief that while difficult pieces within reach and
04:31I believe that in a very significant step President Putin agreed that Russia
04:36would accept security guarantees for Ukraine and this is one of the key points
04:41that we need to consider and we're going to be considering that at the table
04:45also like who will do what essentially I'm optimistic that collectively we can
04:51reach an agreement that would deter any future aggression against Ukraine and I
04:55actually think there won't be I think that's even over overrated largely
05:00overrated but we're gonna find out and I think that the European nations are
05:05gonna take a lot of the burden we're gonna help them and we're gonna make it very
05:09secure we also need to discuss the possible exchanges of territory taken into
05:15consideration the current line of contact that means the war zone the war
05:21lines that are pretty obvious very sad actually to look at them and
05:26negotiating positions of President Putin also you have president of Ukraine who is
05:34you just met a little while ago and we're gonna try and get a a
05:39three-party meeting maybe as soon as we can and I have a feeling you and
05:45President Putin are going to work something out ultimately this is a
05:49decision that can only be made by President Zelenskyy and by the people
05:54of Ukraine working also together in agreement with President Putin and I
05:59just think that's very good things are going to come of it so I hope we have a
06:03good meeting and if we can have a good meeting I'll set up a meeting with
06:06President Putin and if you'd like I'll go to that meeting and not that I want to
06:12do that but I will do that because we want to save a lot of people from dying a lot
06:17of people are dying and we got to save them got to save it 5,000 6,000 7,000
06:22people sometimes a week all of us would obviously prefer an immediate ceasefire
06:27while we work on a lasting peace and maybe something like that could happen as of
06:31this moment it's not happening but President Zelenskyy and President Putin
06:36can talk a little bit more about that you know in the six or so wars that we
06:42stopped we haven't had a ceasefire and so I don't know that it's necessary you can
06:49do it through the war but it would be I like the ceasefire from another standpoint
06:52you immediately stop the killing but I believe a peace agreement at the end of all
06:58of this is something that's very attainable and it can be done in the
07:02near future with all of the wars that I got involved in we we only have this one
07:07left of course as I walk out the door there'll probably be a new one starting
07:12and I'll get that stopped too but I thought this was going to be one of the
07:15easier ones it's actually one of the most difficult very complex the next step
07:20would be for a trilateral meeting and that will be worked out and I just look
07:25forward to working and having a great result we're going to spend a lot of
07:28time today talking about and we're really honored you guys came over I mean
07:33these are the heads of major countries and respected all over Europe and they
07:39speak for largely I think I should say but pretty much for the other countries of
07:45Europe and we will come to a resolution today I think on almost everything
07:51including probably the security and that's pretty much a story I'd like to
07:57say mr. president would you like to say something you have the media if you want
08:01you could come over and you could stand you could use mine or you could just turn
08:05around whichever you feel comfortable with I can speak without microphone thank you
08:13too much I think that we had very good conversation with president very good
08:17and it really was the best one or sorry maybe the best one will be in the future
08:24but it was really good and we spoke about very sensitive points the first one is
08:30security guarantees and we are very happy with president that all the leaders are
08:34here and the security in Ukraine depends on the United States and on you and on
08:41those leaders who are with us in our hearts they have been on online and
08:45before yesterday and etc so a lot of countries on the side of Ukraine our
08:51people and all of us want to finish this war stop suppression stop this war we
08:56spoke about it and we will speak more about security guarantees this is very
09:00important that United States gives such strong signal and is ready for security
09:06guarantees the second point or maybe the first humanitarian direction very
09:12important to change all the prisoners and I think that president will help and I
09:16was very thankful to your wife again mr. president for the letter about our
09:22abducted children and I hope that really it can be historic role for the people to
09:31bring kids back to the families and be happy as this is so so important and I'm happy that we
09:40discussed it this track with the president Trump and I hope that we will find decisions
09:46and then what is very important that all the sensitive things territorial etc we will discuss on the
09:56level of leaders during trilateral meeting and president Trump will try to organize
10:02such meeting and he said that he will come or not come I Ukraine will be happy if if you
10:10if you if you if you want to be there I will be there yeah thank you and I think this is very important
10:16yes so security guarantees bringing kids back and and all our people not only warriors first of all
10:24warriors and all the civilians journalists a lot of people in prison so we we need them back
10:30and guarantees which will work for the years we spoke about it and I showed the president a lot of details on the
10:39battlefield on the map thank you so much thank you for the map by the way it was great yeah I'm thinking how
10:46to take it back well we'll get no no no I think that we had constructive specific meeting and I'm
10:54very thankful to all the all the leaders who are here and you help a lot and so we're happy of that we
11:04have such big unity today thank you mr. thank you very much I think you'll see that President Putin really would
11:11like to do something else I think when we set that up when we do I think it's going to be when not if
11:17I think you're going to see some very pop really positive moves I know there's over a thousand
11:24prisoners and I know they're going to release them maybe they're going to release them very soon like
11:28immediately which I think is great but we will we're going to set that up today after these after this
11:36meeting so very good and great remarks I appreciate it Marcus head of NATO maybe you could say a few
11:41words yes I will be very brief I really want to thank you president of the United States dear Donald
11:47for the fact that you as I said before broke the deadlock basically with the president Putin was by
11:53starting that dialogue and I think it was in February that you had the first phone call and from there
11:58we are now where we are today and that is I think if we play this well we could end this and we have to end
12:05it is we have to stop the killing we have to stop the destruction of Ukraine's infrastructure it is
12:10a terrible war so I'm really excited and let's make the best out of today and make sure that from
12:17today onwards we get this thing to an end as soon as possible I really want to thank you for your
12:22leadership what you are doing for Lodemy but of course also all the European colleagues it is really
12:27crucial and the fact that you have said I'm willing to participate in the security guarantees is a big
12:33difference so also thank you for that well NATO also has agreed from two percent to five percent
12:42which is something that is a massive amount of money and it's two percent that wasn't always paid to five
12:47percent that is paid that's a big difference and so we appreciate that that's great move thank you very
12:53much Ursula maybe on behalf of the Commission you could say a couple of words thank you very much it's a
12:59pleasure to be here and it's a very important moment indeed we are here Europeans as friends and allies we
13:07had a fantastic NATO summit together as the two largest and biggest economies in the world we had the
13:14largest trade deal ever agreed and now we are here to work together with you on a just and lasting peace for
13:22Ukraine stop the killing this is really our common interest stop the killing and indeed it's very good
13:29to hear that we're working on the security guarantees article 5 lies security guarantees so important but I
13:35want to thank you also that you mentioned the thousands of Ukrainian children that have been abducted and as a
13:42mother and grandmother every single child has to go back to its family this should be one of our main
13:50priorities also in these negotiations to make sure that the children come back to Ukraine to their
13:55families thank you and we did I was just thinking we're here for a different reason but we just a
14:02couple of weeks ago made the largest trade deal in history so that's a big that's a big thing and
14:07congratulations that's great thank you very much mr. chancellor from Germany very very great leader mr.
14:16president Donald many thanks for having us today I think this is extremely helpful that we are meeting
14:23and hearing that the two of you are having such a good meeting today here in Washington the next steps
14:32ahead are the more complicated ones now the the path is open you opened it last Friday but now the way is open
14:41for complicated negotiations and to be honest we all would like to see a ceasefire the latest from the next meeting on I can't imagine that the next meeting would took place without a ceasefire so let's work on that and let's try to put pressure on Russia because the credibility of this efforts these efforts we are undertaking today are depending on
15:11the serious negotiations from the next step on so I would like to emphasize this aspect and would like to see a ceasefire from the next meeting which should be a trilateral meeting wherever it takes place well we're going to let the president go over and talk to the president and we'll see how that works out and if we can do that I will say and again I say it in
15:41to negotiations and they won't do that and one of this has you know from the Russians the the a
15:42negotiations and they and one of the wars was as you know and the Congo was thirty years thirty-one years
15:48long another one that we settled last week with two great countries was thirty-five years
15:54going on and we had no ceasefire so if we can do the ceasefire great and and if we
16:00if we don't do a ceasefire because many other points were given to us many many points were
16:05given to us great points uh please georgia go ahead well thank you very much donald mr president
16:11for hosting us today in this important meeting and i think it is an important day a new face
16:19after three years and a half that we didn't see any kind of sign from the russian side that there
16:26was a willing for dialogue so something is changing something has changed thanks to you
16:32thanks also to the stalling in the battlefield which was achieved with the bravery of ukrainians
16:40and with the unity that we all provided to ukraine and the reason why i mention it is that we also
16:47have to remind that if we want to reach peace and if we want to to guarantee justice we have to do it
16:55united so that's why it's a very good day the one uh we are uh we are in you can obviously count on
17:03italy as it was from the beginning we are on the side of ukraine and we do absolutely support your
17:10efforts towards peace we will talk about many important topics the first one is security guarantees
17:20how to be sure that it won't happen again which is the precondition of every kind of peace i'm happy
17:27that we will discuss about that i'm happy that we will begin from a proposal which is the let's say
17:33article 5 model which was italian at the beginning so we are always ready to bring our proposals for peace
17:43for dialogue it's something we have to build together to guarantee peace and to defend the security of
17:50our nation so thank you mr president for hosting us thank you very much emmanuel thank you mr president
17:58for organizing this uh this meeting and for your commitment and everything was said but i have to
18:07i just have to say here everybody around this table is in favor of peace
18:13and and we work very hard and we've worked very hard during the past few years
18:17to have a peace which is a robust and long-standing peace this is why the idea of a trilateral meeting
18:26is very important because this is the only way to fix it and by the way i think in uh as a follow-up
18:31who would need probably a quadrilateral meeting because when we speak about security guarantees
18:36we speak about the whole security of the european continent and this is why we are all united here with
18:41ukraine on this uh on this matter in order to organize such a trilateral meeting your idea to ask for
18:49a truth or at least to stop the killings uh as we discuss is a necessity and we we all support this
18:57idea and in order to have such a long-standing peace for ukraine and for the whole continent
19:03we do need the security guarantees and the first one is clearly a credible ukrainian army for the
19:11years and decades to come and the second one is our own commitments all of us and we worked very
19:18hard during the past few months among the coalition of the willings with the support of nato to build
19:24the different pillars of security guarantees and our commitments and you can be sure that europeans are
19:29very lucid about the fact that they have their fair share in this security guarantees for ukraine but
19:35their own security is clearly at stake in this situation so you can count on us as we can count on
19:42you in order to deliver this robust peace for both ukraine and europe thank you very much emmanuel
19:50mr prime minister uh thank you very much mr president and uh thank you for hosting us here um can i start
19:57where emmanuel started which is we all want peace um the war in ukraine has had a huge impact particularly
20:04on the ukrainians who've borne the brunt of it but it's also had an impact on europe and on the united
20:10kingdom there's not a family or community that hasn't been affected and when we talk about security
20:16we're talking about the security not just of ukraine we're talking about the security of europe and the
20:21united kingdom as well which is why this is such an important issue i think this is such an important
20:25meeting as a group i think we've had a discussion on the phone a number of times mr president but be
20:30able now to be around the table to take it forward and i really feel that we can i think with the right
20:37approach this afternoon make real progress particularly on the security guarantees and
20:42your indication of security guarantees of some sort of article 5 style guarantees fits with what we've
20:48been doing with the coalition of the willing which we started some months ago bringing countries
20:52together and showing that we were prepared to step up to the plate when it came to security with you
20:58coming alongside the us alongside what we've already developed i think we could take a really important
21:05step forward today a historic step actually could come out of this meeting in terms of security
21:10for ukraine and security in europe i also feel that we can make real progress towards
21:17um a just and lasting outcome obviously that has to involve ukraine and a trilateral meeting seems the
21:25sensible next step so thank you for uh being prepared to take that forward because i think
21:31um if we can ensure that uh that is um the progress out of this meeting both security guarantees and some
21:38sort of progress on trilateral meeting of some sort to bring um some of the difficult issues to a head then i
21:46think um today will be seen as a very important day in recent years um in relation to a conflict
21:52which has gone on for three and a bit years and so far nobody nobody's been able to bring it to this
21:57point so i thank you for that well thank you very much and you know it's very interesting because
22:03this is the first for the white house you can't say that very often it's seen a lot over the years
22:08over the since 1800 1799 to be almost exact uh but this is the first where we've had so many prime ministers
22:16presidents the heads of european nations and uh by the way alex i'd like you to say a couple of words too
22:23you're a young powerful man uh before i finish up i want you to say a couple of words go ahead
22:29i'll i'll take the notion of youth back to my wife and try to convince her thank you very much mr
22:38president i think in the past two weeks we've probably had more progress in ending this war
22:44than we have in the past three and a half years and i think the fact that we're around this table
22:50today is is very much symbolic in the sense that it's team europe and team united states helping ukraine
22:57and the progress that we're looking out of this meeting is about the security guarantees which
23:04are a big part of this and then of course moving towards a process with the trilateral meeting with
23:11you and president putin and president zelensky some of the international media might wonder you know why
23:19is the president of finland here i think the reason is probably that we might come from a small country
23:25but we have a long border with russia over 800 miles and we of course have our own historical
23:32experience with russia from world war ii the winter war and the war of continuation
23:38and if i look at the silver lining of where we stand right now we found a solution in 1944 and i'm sure
23:45that we'll be able to find a solution in 2025 to end russia's war of aggression and find and get a
23:53uh lasting and just peace the situation is very difficult but that's why we're here thank you alex
24:00very much good job so we're going to be meeting for a while and we're going to discuss some of the
24:07issues and i don't think there's any issue that's overly complex it's at a point now where people want
24:14to do things i i do i really do believe i've known him for a long time i've always had a great relationship
24:19with him i think that president putin wants to find an answer too and we'll see and in a certain
24:26period of time not very far from now a week or two weeks we're going to know whether or not we're going
24:31to solve this or is this horrible fighting going to continue we'll do the best to get it ended and
24:39i believe you have two willing parties and usually that's good news but two willing parties that want
24:43to make a deal and we'll journey together and we'll go over and we'll see if it can be done
24:50and it's possible it might not be able to be done on the other hand it's possible it will
24:55we're going to save thousands and thousands of lives a week and so it's something we really have to do
25:01and or at least we have to give it our best it's all you can do you can give it your best but i think
25:06we may have a very good outcome so i want to thank you all and the media i want to thank you we're going
25:11to be staying here for a little while then we're going to walk over to the oval office and we're
25:16going to have another little discussion about similar matters and then they're going to go home
25:23to their great countries and report and i'm going to remain here and work and you're going to go and
25:28work we're all going to be working one we may be in a different location but that's what we know how
25:34to do is work but i want to thank the media has been actually very fair generally speaking very fair
25:40i think it's important that they're fair because this is uh this is a very important
25:44this is a very important subject we have to get it ended and so that's all we ask for is fairness
25:50with the media thank you all very much we appreciate it thank you very much
