00:00So I was at Elliott Wolfe earlier today as he met the media with Phil Perry
00:03asking him a pertinent question about are you willing to give up a high draft pick
00:06to improve the team?
00:07I hope that answer, Maz, is not just a generic answer to a generic question.
00:13I would like to think that they're looking at their roster
00:15and saying it's not good enough.
00:18It's not close to being good enough.
00:20And now that we're almost a month into training camp
00:23where you could see if something was emerging, you might feel differently.
00:29In other words, if Will Campbell were setting the world on fire
00:32and really were holding his own and dominating as a left tackle, plug and play,
00:37that's the guy, you might feel differently about the offensive line.
00:41He's not.
00:42If Kyle Williams were, you know, emerging, like right out of the chute,
00:48like Travion Henderson was immediately making plays look like that guy,
00:51you might feel differently.
00:53He's not.
00:55If Drake May was looking like vintage Minnesota Vikings Drake May,
00:58excuse me, Steph Diggs, you might feel differently.
01:02He's not.
01:03Who individually as a player is popped to the point where you say,
01:09oh, we might have more than we thought.
01:11Is that existing right now?
01:14Well, I mean, you're talking about Henderson.
01:17Yeah, right.
01:17I was just going to say Travion Henderson.
01:20I think Henderson has been terrific.
01:22Okay.
01:22But again, he's a running back and I have different concerns about Henderson,
01:26but I'll shelve those for the moment.
01:29No, they don't have it.
01:30They don't.
01:31It's not like, and the big one's on the line, if you ask me,
01:33because everything spins off of that.
01:35When you're talking about the offense, if you can't block, you're porked.
01:38So I'm just talking about offensive line and receiver is really sort of what
01:41I'm focused on, helping Drake May, because he's not,
01:45I don't feel like he's ready to prop everybody up.
01:49I mean, or at least enough, not with the way that he's playing right now.
01:54All right, back to your phones, as promised.
01:56Here's Al in Manchester.
01:57Go ahead, Al.
01:58Hey, guys.
01:59As Matt mentioned earlier, Drake's coaching and learning environment last year
02:03was probably pretty horrendous.
02:04So that being the case, I know earlier this year,
02:07there were some people talking about Drake's potential second-year bump
02:10and all that sort of stuff.
02:11I'm thinking that might not happen until Drake's third year,
02:14now that he has real coaches around him.
02:16But I do agree that we should see at least some improvement
02:19coming to at least mid-season this year.
02:22Okay.
02:22No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
02:24He improves this year.
02:25I'm not giving you three years for the guy.
02:28I mean, I know Josh Allen did it, but that's not, that's an aberration.
02:32We're not, no, we're going to find out about Drake May this year.
02:34And, oh, by the way, I mean, I say that.
02:38Stu put in his email, if they find out he's not the guy,
02:40you go back into the draft.
02:41We're not doing that.
02:42You're right.
02:43He gets two more years.
02:44But, no, no, we see movement this year, Maz, right?
02:47Oh, no, no, there's got to be growth.
02:49He can't go through another season like last year.
02:51And, again, no, it doesn't necessarily all have to be right out of week one.
02:56But, you know, you need to see it.
02:58If you have another year like last year, oh, that's a very bad sign.
03:02Matt Rhode Island.
03:03I'm sorry, Murray.
03:03If it's like last year, he sucks.
03:05And we are drafting a new quarterback.
03:07Matt in Rhode Island.
03:08Go ahead.
03:09Yeah, I'm with Big Jim on this.
03:11Major concerns.
03:13The fact that we got rid of future Hall of Famer Bazooka Joe to make this kid happy scares me even more
03:20because I think he's got kind of a pussy mentality.
03:23So, I'm almost ready to say let's bring back Mac Jones.
03:26Let's call the Niners.
03:28Do you see clips of him over the weekend?
03:30No.
03:31Is he even still, where is he?
03:32Oh, he's at San Fran.
03:33Yeah.
03:34I don't know.
03:34He looks like Mac Jones and not in a good way.
03:37All right.
03:38Michael and Nadick.
03:39Go ahead, Mike.
03:39What do you got?
03:40Him and his noodle line.
03:40Hey, Felger.
03:41So, I'm a Pats fan, but just like Jim Murray, I'm open-minded.
03:45I know everyone likes to compare him to the next Josh Allen or Justin Herbert.
03:50But truthfully, more and more, he's reminded me of Mitchell Trubisky.
03:54I mean, if you remember Mitch coming out of UNC, just like Drake, had raw talent, athletic ability, the build you want of a quarterback.
04:02But he would just make bonehead mistakes in key points of the game and just never got there.
04:08And their best season was nine wins, lost in the wild card to the Saints.
04:12Okay, I got it, Mitch Trubisky.
04:14And at least you're open-minded like big Jim Murray.
04:16That was a fun, that was a good comment.
04:19Jim's so open-minded.
04:20Matt, do you think?
04:21I'm open-minded about where we are with Drake May.
04:23He might suck.
04:24He might be good.
04:24Again, the jury's out.
04:25That's what I've said a million times.
04:26Do you think he's Mitch Trubisky, though?
04:28I mean, because Mitch Trubisky's not an NFL-caliber passer, right?
04:33Yeah, I don't think he's Mitch Trubisky.
04:34Mitch Trubisky might have had a stronger arm for all I know.
04:37I mean, you know, but he had no idea where it was going.
04:41May throws a good deep ball.
04:42Like, you know, there were some things to like and things that you see that look like they can be repeated.
04:47I'm just talking about, like, is he going to be upper half, lower half?
04:51Do I think he can play in the league?
04:53Yeah.
04:54Might he end up being a backup?
04:55If he, like, can't figure out how to run an offense, you know, or read a defense?
05:00Maybe.
05:01But I think he's better than Trubisky.
05:02I wouldn't compare him to Trubisky.
05:04As a pure passer, he's a different caliber player than Mitch Trubisky.
05:09You're right.
05:10We don't know if he can put it all together.
05:12But you can see.
05:14You see the way the ball comes out of his hand versus the way Mitch Trubisky throws a football.
05:19Like, we can all see that and agree that Drake May is a higher caliber guy.
05:23He has a higher ceiling than Mitch Trubisky as an NFL passer.
05:26Yes?
05:27We'll see.
05:28I mean, if we're going to have a circle session about stats, wouldn't you guys, especially you, mediocre quarterback lover, Mike, love, like, 3,000 yards, 24 touchdowns, 12 picks, and a QB rating of 95.4?
05:39Mitch Trubisky, year one or year two in Chicago?
05:41Year two.
05:42Year two in Chicago.
05:43Yeah, he, you know.
05:45Those are hot stats.
05:45Those are hot stats.
05:46Murray, I got all horned up for Mitch Trubisky.
05:49Was it, when did he go to Pittsburgh?
05:50Was it last year or the year before?
05:512022.
05:52It was one of those years where I'm like, pick to click.
05:54You watch Mitch Trubisky, Pittsburgh's going to draw it out of him.
05:57Turns out they didn't.
05:59But give me Mitch Trubisky year two again.
06:023,200 yards, 24 touchdowns, 12 picks, quarterback rating of 95.4.
06:10Completion percentage of 66.6.
06:13You take that with Drake May, right, Mass?
06:15Oh, sure.
06:16Yeah.
06:16Now, look, also, but here's where I would sort of separate is that in year one, Trubisky completed like 59% of his passes.
06:24May last year alone was over 66.
06:27Okay, now, look, again, I'm not telling you that it was like a grand slam or what have you.
06:31I'm just telling you that I think right out of the gate, he's more accurate than Trubisky was.
06:35Trubisky had to be, he had to be schemed from a coordinator's standpoint.
06:40They had to make it really easy on him because he couldn't freaking put the ball anywhere with any touch.
06:45Was May doing that this weekend?
06:46He's got more touch than that guy, though.
06:48Yeah.
06:48That guy's hands are made of free.
06:50Eight feet tall.
06:50Those hands are made of cement.
06:52The listening skills of people, you two in the first segment, the listening skills of Nate in the truck, Nate in the truck.
07:03I'm going to jump him in line because Nate in the truck, his comment line, unless this is a bad comment line, says Felger needs to lay off on Drake May.
07:10I would agree.
07:12I co-sign.
07:13I'm defending the guy from you two today.
07:16Naz has jumped him on the list of concerns over receiver.
07:19Yes.
07:19Murray has him as Mitch Trubisky.
07:21That's on Murray.
07:22I'm the guy that needs to lay off.
07:24I'm the guy that needs to talk to these two, Nate.
07:27No, no.
07:28You need to lay off.
07:29You know, you're always finding the negative in people rather than the positive.
07:32So, and that's your little, our show, we got to do what's for the show today.
07:37And I'm telling you something.
07:39Look, give the guy a break.
07:40Look what happened to Baker Maysville with Cleveland.
07:42How long did it take him to finally succeed now in Tampa Bay?
07:45Okay.
07:46So, you're telling me with two head coaches and two different offensive coordinators that you're not going to give this guy a pass?
07:52Now, if you give him Mitch Trubisky's stats like he just did, right, isn't that a leap?
07:57Isn't that the next tier that he's going to jump into?
08:00I'm so tired of you, Felger, always about you can't find the positive out of the kid.
08:04And let's see if he actually succeeds in that positive that you pick out.
08:07Nope.
08:07You're looking to fail every single time.
08:09Nate, do you understand there's other people on the show?
08:11Do you know Big Jim Murray?
08:12Do you know who that is?
08:14Oh, yeah.
08:14I don't know Jim.
08:15I love Jim.
08:15What's up, Nate, dog?
08:16Who's the other guy?
08:17Who's the other guy on the show?
08:18Who's the other guy on the show?
08:19Yeah, Tony Mads.
08:20Okay.
08:21Well, you guys like to substitute from time to time in there, so I don't know what happened to you on a bike last week or something.
08:27No, I was still here for part of it.
08:30Maz has a really high-pitch voice.
08:33Murray has the really low-pitch voice.
08:34The guy with the high-pitch voice said that he's more concerned about Drake May than the receivers.
08:39The guy with the low-pitch voice said that he may suck, and he's said it like eight times already today.
08:44I'm the one defending Drake May against these two, just by the way.
08:47That's not how I heard it.
08:49Yeah, I'll tell you.
08:49Seriously, that is so, so annoying.
08:53No, no, listen, listen.
08:53The seats on this show are very well ordered.
08:56You are one, I am two, Murray's three.
08:59The credit goes in that order, and so does the blame.
09:03John in Boston.
09:04Go ahead, John.
09:05All right, I'll have a call and ask for who?
09:09Anyone.
09:09You can address this to anyone, John.
09:12Go ahead.
09:12Okay, thank you.
09:14Bye.
09:15Sorry, Mike, I was on the phone with the doctor's office from my daughter.
09:18Others talking to me.
09:20Go ahead.
09:21Yeah, so there's so much to start with, but, you know, please look at the stats of, you know,
09:29Brady, Allen, and Drake May, and, you know, Brady didn't hit a 66% completion percentage rate
09:38until, like, year seven or eight.
09:40Doesn't count.
09:41Different league, John.
09:42Different league.
09:43I get it, I get it.
09:44But, also, the big news today isn't, you know, Drake's four for seven attempts, you know,
09:52completion on four for seven.
09:55The news is Henderson, Efton Chisholm, Kyle Williams, he's been getting open.
10:01Vrabel said that.
10:02So, I'm just going to stop you.
10:03Kyle Williams just about got killed by his backup quarterback on Saturday.
10:06You're not going to be seeing him for a while.
10:08So, Kyle Williams is not really part of the story.
10:12So, and we played you highlights of Henderson and Chisholm.
10:16Those are nice little additions.
10:18If Drake May's not comfortable in the offense, and Drake May is wild, like he was on Saturday
10:24in Minnesota, Henderson and Chisholm aren't going to be the difference.
10:28The quarterback's got to be composed in the offense, accurate enough to make those guys
10:34be a difference.
10:34I like the look of both those guys, who doesn't, nice little additions to the offense.
10:40The quarterback's got to be there.
10:41It starts with him, obviously, caller.
10:44And Kyle Williams, so one of the guys that I hung up on before who bugged me, had something
10:49about a backup quarterback, you need a better backup quarterback than Josh Dobbs.
10:53Big Jimmer, you agree with that?
10:54Oh, a thousand percent.
10:55Again, he can't hit the broad side of a barn or he's going to get players like Williams
10:59decapitated.
11:00You can do better there.
11:01You know, they have like nine quarterbacks in Cleveland.
11:05They now determine that Joe Flacco's going to be their starter.
11:07I don't know, maybe call them for Kenny Pickett.
11:09Can you do that?
11:09But then again, sort of a young quarterback might make someone uncomfortable because the
11:13runway might not be a little too clear now, so that's not going to happen.
11:16But you could do better than Dobbs.
11:17So, let's do it.
11:21Let's do it.
