00:00If it seems like you have thousands of ideas racing through your brain all day, it's because
00:07you do. Newsweek reports that the average person will usually have around 6,200 thoughts in one
00:13day. Psychology experts at Queen's University in Canada determined this after creating a way
00:17to find out when one thought ends and another starts. The findings, published in the journal
00:22Nature Communications, describes a thought worm, or when a human focuses on one idea.
00:26When a person moves on to a new thought, they make a new thought worm, creating a pattern
00:30scientists can detect. Previously, researchers have tried to use brain imaging to figure out
00:34what someone's thinking about, which is as hard as it sounds. But this new method helps
00:38researchers detect when a person is thinking without regard to what the thought is. This
00:42could help test how our brain patterns are influenced by external factors and possibly
00:46help detect disorders like ADHD or even schizophrenia in the future.
