00:00I'll see you next time.
00:30it's basically a thunderstorm so let's let's go back to what a thunderstorm is so what happens
00:41is that when you have lots of air going up the water in the air will then condense and become
00:47big drops and then ice when there's lots of water coming in the thunderstorm then it comes down
00:53in a relatively short period of time so it looks like a burst it has been found that this
00:59particular phenomena is very common in Himalayan regions particularly in high mountains due to
01:06orographic effect in the mountains in mountainous areas one of the additional factors for giving
01:12pushing the air to go up instead when the air comes hitting hitting a mountain and the air
01:17will be pushed up so therefore you have both the heating itself and then the what we call the
01:23orographic forcing the land it's at the mountain itself forcing the air to go up so these two
01:28factors add together and therefore would then cause the thunderstorms to develop much faster
01:35and stronger and so when it rains therefore it will have heavier rain the river cannot sustain that flow
01:44rate and so therefore there will be flash flooding but trees have a very important function which is
01:50to hold the topsoil now if you chop down all the trees then what happens is that the there is no more
01:56trees to hold the soil topsoil and so when you have heavy rain then the topsoil gets washed down
02:02and therefore you will have lens lines
02:05we have to focus on the holistic disaster management aspect when we deal with such kind of disaster
02:32we're not just looking at the responsive measures but we also focus on the pre-disaster events
02:40pre-preparations preparatory phases where we have to apply solutions such as early warning systems
02:46which can be used for informing community well in advance you need to see what's happening now and try
02:53to predict what might happen in the next couple of hours so that in our short term now in the long term we
02:59know there will be more chances of heavy rain so that one we need to think about
03:07we need to implement strategies to reduce the possibility of flooding
