The upcoming Washington meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is drawing global attention, with European leaders pledging support for Kyiv. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are said to favor a peace deal, but Moscow’s demand for the Donetsk region, firmly rejected by Zelenskyy, remains a major obstacle. Analysts caution that Putin has not abandoned his maximalist war aims, even as he convinces Trump he is open to compromise.

00:00:00And at the top of this hour, we're getting some breaking news.
00:00:04This is regarding U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky's meeting.
00:00:08We're getting some inside scoop on the meeting that is scheduled in Washington, D.C.
00:00:14Now, European leaders to back Zelensky in the meeting.
00:00:18Donald Trump wants Zelensky to strike peace agreement.
00:00:21Trump put in back peace deal more than ceasefire.
00:00:25And Zelensky to land in Washington, D.C. anytime from now.
00:00:31So that's the breaking news that's coming in at the moment.
00:00:34This is regarding the Donald Trump and Zelensky meeting.
00:00:38All eyes are now on the meeting.
00:00:40And we're learning that Zelensky will be landing in Washington anytime from now.
00:00:47And the European leaders will be backing Zelensky in this meeting.
00:00:51So this meeting will also be attended by the European leaders who will be backing the Ukrainian President Zelensky.
00:00:59Donald Trump wants Zelensky to strike peace agreement.
00:01:01And Trump put in back the peace deal more than ceasefire.
00:01:05Remember, Putin had demanded that Russia wants the Donetsk region.
00:01:09But we were learning that Zelensky does not agree with this demand.
00:01:13Zelensky has rejected this demand.
00:01:15It remains to be seen what happens in today's meeting.
00:01:19And we're now being joined by Daniel Bloch, who's a senior editor of foreign affairs from New York.
00:01:34Daniel, how do you see this meeting?
00:01:36Could this be a turning point as far as the Russia-Ukraine war is concerned?
00:01:40Well, if it is a turning point, I think it will only be the latest of what has been a pretty intense back and forth ever since Trump has come into office.
00:01:51For his first several months in office, he positioned himself quite closely to Putin, even as Putin continuously reneged on his word.
00:01:59But then shortly going into kind of in the weeks leading up to the Alaska summit, he started to align himself more with Europe to pursue a policy more in line with his predecessor, Joe Biden's.
00:02:12And then over the course of the meeting in Alaska, that was all upended.
00:02:15So could this upend everything again?
00:02:17Could he go back to where he was before the Alaska summit and side more with Europe and Ukraine?
00:02:22Quite possibly.
00:02:23But it's been it's been a lot of whiplash here in the United States.
00:02:26But Daniel, we also saw that Russian President Vladimir Putin had kept forward his demand that Russia wants the Donetsk region and the demand was put forward to Ukrainian President Zelensky through Donald Trump.
00:02:40But we also learned that Zelensky had rejected the demand by Russian side.
00:02:47That's true.
00:02:47And I would think that Trump would would know this and would have known this going into Alaska.
00:02:51This has always been a red line for Ukraine.
00:02:53It's not willing to cede its territory to Russia.
00:02:57And I think what's particularly notable is that Putin is not only demanding that the world recognize the territory that Russia has already conquered and is currently occupying, but that Ukraine cede territory that it still controls to Russia.
00:03:11And I think what that really shows and what Ukraine is well aware of and what the Europeans are well aware of is that Putin is not really willing to negotiate a good faith end to this war.
00:03:22He hasn't backed off his maximalist war aims, but he seems to be very successful at sweet talking Donald Trump into thinking that that he is some kind of great compromiser and is willing to to settle.
00:03:34Right, Daniel, do stay with us.
00:03:38We're getting some more inputs on the Zelensky-Trump meeting.
00:03:49And ahead of the meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky, Donald Trump's big remark, Trump posts, and I quote,
00:03:55Ukrainian President Zelensky can end the war with Russia almost immediately if he wants to or he can continue to fight.
00:04:03Remember how it started?
00:04:05No getting back.
00:04:06Obama given Crimea 12 years ago without a shot being fired and no going into NATO by Ukraine.
00:04:15Some things never change.
00:04:16This is the remark made by U.S. President Donald Trump just ahead of the meeting with Zelensky where he has said that the Ukrainian President can end the war with Russia almost immediately if he wants to or he can continue to fight.
00:04:29Remember how it started?
00:04:30No getting back.
00:04:31Obama given Crimea 12 years ago without a shot being fired and no going into NATO by Ukraine.
00:04:38Some things never change.
00:04:40That's the remark which is being made by Donald Trump just ahead of the meeting.
00:04:44Daniel continues to stay with us.
00:04:46Daniel, how do you see this remark by Donald Trump just ahead of the meeting with Zelensky?
00:04:52Well, I think it shows a pretty profound ignorance about the facts on the ground in Eastern Europe and in Ukraine.
00:04:59I mean, I suppose it is literally true that if Zelensky and the Ukrainians decided to stop fighting and allowed themselves to become either de facto or de jure part of Russia,
00:05:10they could put a stop to the fighting.
00:05:12But the reality is, if Russia stops fighting, Russia will continue to exist.
00:05:16It's not going to collapse.
00:05:18It will not lose its sovereignty in any way.
00:05:21If Ukraine stops fighting, as Trump is seemingly suggesting they should do, Ukraine would in some ways cease to exist.
00:05:27So, I mean, he seems to think that he is uniquely positioned, when I say he here, I mean Trump, to bring peace to the world.
00:05:36And he doesn't have the leverage, obviously, to make Russia stop fighting.
00:05:41And he's been persuaded by whatever Putin has sold him.
00:05:44And so I think he thinks he has the leverage to stop Ukraine from fighting and to just kind of give in to Russia's demands.
00:05:51But Ukraine isn't going to do that.
00:05:52Ukrainians have been fighting very hard for their sovereignty.
00:05:55They have a very strong sense of nationalism, a strong sense of independence.
00:05:59And so they're not willing to just kind of lay down and roll over.
00:06:04Daniel, also the big remark that has been made by Donald Trump is there's no going into NATO by Ukraine.
00:06:09So do you see Ukraine being flexible in its stand on being a part of the NATO?
00:06:14We've seen Ukraine demanding that it will be a part of NATO.
00:06:17And now Donald Trump has said that there's no going into NATO by Ukraine.
00:06:20Do you think Ukraine will change its stand just to secure peace?
00:06:26My sense is that privately, the Ukrainian elite, you know, Ukrainian government officials are more flexible on the NATO position than they are publicly.
00:06:36You know, in order to save face and I think maintain a strong negotiating position,
00:06:39they have to say that they're not willing to give up on their aspirations of joining NATO.
00:06:44But my understanding is privately, they would be open to some other kind of security guarantees
00:06:49or security arrangement that doesn't include NATO membership.
00:06:54But obviously, that is hardly the only sticking point in these negotiations.
00:06:59All right, Daniel Bloch, thank you so much for joining us on the broadcast on India today.
00:07:03That was Daniel Bloch sharing his views on the much anticipated Trump-Zelensky meeting.
00:07:10And we're now getting some more breaking news.
00:07:19And ahead of the meeting, Donald Trump fact-checks fake news.
00:07:25Donald Trump says that fake news of my defeat over Putin made in Alaska.
00:07:30Trump posts, and I quote,
00:07:32The fake news has been saying for three days that I suffered a major defeat by allowing Russian President Vladimir Putin to have a major summit in the United States.
00:07:41Actually, he would have loved doing the meeting anywhere else but the U.S.
00:07:46And the fake news knows this.
00:07:48That's the statement that is coming in from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has fact-checked the fake news.
00:07:55The fake news was that he was defeated over Putin's meet in Alaska.
00:08:00And now he has said that it would be Russian President Vladimir Putin who would have been happy if the location would have been anywhere else than U.S.
00:08:10That's the statement from Donald Trump.
00:08:13India Today Global's Pranay Upadhyay is joining us with more details on this.
00:08:17Pranay, Donald Trump has fact-checked this claim that he was defeated because the meeting was held in Alaska by Vladimir Putin,
00:08:24saying that Vladimir Putin would, in fact, have loved if the meeting would have been somewhere else.
00:08:29Indeed, Anjali.
00:08:32But if you see, President Donald Trump is facing criticism, you know, in the United States for the red carpet welcome given to Russian President Vladimir Putin
00:08:41for not, you know, insisting upon immediate ceasefire.
00:08:45And that's why he has, you know, posted on social media multiple times that, you know, the fake news media is against him.
00:08:52They are spreading these things against him.
00:08:55They do not want President Donald Trump to work out a ceasefire.
00:08:59And that's why they are the one who actually wanted this war to continue.
00:09:03And these people are not in favor of a ceasefire and President Donald Trump is working out.
00:09:10He, in fact, questioned that, you know, even if he would have asked or even if he would have got half of the Moscow,
00:09:16even then he would have been criticized by the section of this fake media and media against him.
00:09:23But you have to see that, you know, even some of his previous, you know, advisors or people, those who have worked with Donald Trump in his previous administration,
00:09:32including John Bolton, who served as his NSA.
00:09:35He said that President Donald Trump might not have lost it, but definitely President Putin won because he got the mainstreaming of Russia.
00:09:47He got the red carpet welcome on the U.S. soil and he did not have to pay for anything.
00:09:53You know, he did not have to be insisted upon an immediate ceasefire on Russia-Ukraine front.
00:10:00And people are still suffering while President Donald Trump is, if he says that he is against, you know, this war and he doesn't want this war to continue,
00:10:09then he should have insisted upon an immediate ceasefire and then would have continued the negotiation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
00:10:16Right. Pranay, thank you so much for getting us those details.
00:10:20And for that context, we'll keep coming back to you for more updates on this much-anticipated meeting.
00:10:28And after a 10-on-10 meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin,
00:10:33Donald Trump is all set to meet Ukrainian President Zelensky at the Oval Office today.
00:10:37Ahead of the big meeting in Washington, the U.S. Secretary of State has said that both Ukraine and Russia will have to make concessions to reach a peace deal to end the war.
00:10:47Marco Rubio has asserted that when it comes to territories and territorial claims, the final decision should rest with Ukraine.
00:10:54He has also warned Russia of additional consequences if a peace agreement is not reached.
00:11:00On the other hand, Zelensky, backed by European and NATO leaders, is looking for a productive meeting in Washington.
00:11:06The Ukrainian President has emphasized that territorial integrity of the nation is non-negotiable
00:11:12and that there has been no indication from Russia of willingness to engage in a trilateral meeting.
00:11:18He has also claimed that the Russian President has so far refused to offer any form of security guarantees,
00:11:23further complicating prospects for a peaceful resolution.
00:11:26Donald Trump met Vladimir Putin on August 15 and hailed the talks.
00:11:30The Russian President, during the meeting, reportedly demanded that Ukrainian forces completely withdraw from the eastern Donetsk region,
00:11:38offering to freeze front lines in exchange, a demand that Ukrainian President has rejected.
00:11:46Since the territorial issue is so important, it should be discussed only by the leaders of Ukraine and Russia
00:11:53at the trilateral Ukraine, United States, Russia so far.
00:11:58Russia gives no sign that trilateral will happen.
00:12:02And if Russia refuses, then new sanctions must follow.
00:12:06Ukraine must be able to uphold its sovereignty and its territorial integrity.
00:12:12There can be no limitations on Ukrainian armed forces, be it cooperation with or other third countries
00:12:23or assistance from other third countries, no limitations for the Ukrainian armed forces.
00:12:29As I've often said, Ukraine must become a steel porcupine, undigestible for potential invaders.
00:12:37You can't have a peace agreement unless both sides give and get.
00:12:41You can't have a peace agreement unless both sides make concessions.
00:12:44That's a fact. That's true in virtually any negotiation.
00:12:47If not, it's just called surrender. And neither side is going to surrender.
00:12:50So both sides are going to have to make concessions.
00:12:52So of course concessions were asked.
00:12:54But what utility would there be of me going on a program and tell you we've wagged our finger at Putin
00:12:59and told him you must do this and you must do that?
00:13:01It's only going to make it harder and less likely that they're going to agree to these things.
00:13:05So these negotiations, as much as everyone would love it to be a live pay-per-view event,
00:13:10these discussions only work best when they are conducted privately in serious negotiations
00:13:16in which people who have to go back and respond to constituencies.
00:13:20The president has said repeatedly, when it comes to territories and territorial claims,
00:13:25that's ultimately something Ukraine will have to decide.
00:13:27It's their territory. It's their country.
00:13:29Ultimately, what they're willing to live with is what they'll have to decide on.
00:13:32And maybe the answer is they're not willing to live with any of this.
00:13:35We don't know. But that's what we need to explore.
00:13:37In the meantime, the one thing we do know that Ukraine has said repeatedly and publicly talked about is security guarantees.
00:13:44They need to be able to enter into security guarantees that ensure that this is never going to happen again,
00:13:48that they're not going to get reinvaded in two and a half or three years or four years or whenever it may be.
00:13:53They don't want to be back here again.
00:13:54They want to be able to go on to rebuild their country and live their lives.
00:13:57That's a very reasonable request. That's something we're working on.
00:14:00And that's something the Russian side has to understand, obviously, is that as a sovereign country,
00:14:04Ukraine has a right, like every sovereign country, to enter into security alliances and agreements with other countries.
00:14:10And our shifting focus, the National Democratic Alliance has announced veteran leader C.P. Radhakrishnan
00:14:18as its vice presidential candidate.
00:14:20Ahead of the India Bloc meeting to strategize for VP polls,
00:14:23Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken with the Congress, seeking support for Radhakrishnan.
00:14:28Rajnath Singh is also set to speak to other opposition parties and Parliamentary Affairs Minister
00:14:33Kiren Rijidu will be Radhakrishnan's election agent.
00:14:36Radhakrishnan is currently the Maharashtra governor but has held several key positions in his political journey.
00:14:43He has served as the Tamil Nadu BJP chief in the past.
00:14:46He has also been associated with the RSS and Jansang and comes from the OBC community.
00:14:51The announcement comes just months ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections.
00:14:55Radhakrishnan is a BJP veteran from Tamil Nadu and has played a key role in building the party's presence in the state.
00:15:02The decision was taken at the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting,
00:15:05which was called to finalize the party's choice for the vice presidential election.
00:15:09Prime Minister Modi has hailed Radhakrishnan's nomination, backing his dedication, humility and intellect.
00:15:15Modi has lauded his community service and grassroots work over the years.
00:15:19Prime Minister Modi has called Vipatishnan's nomination,

00:18:32And now shifting focus, Rahul Gandhi versus the Election Commission has escalated.
00:18:37Just hours after the Election Commission launched a series of sharp rebuttals against recent
00:18:42allegations of vote chori, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has doubled down.
00:18:46He has accused the Election Commission of being the BJP's election chori branch yet again
00:18:52in Bihar as he kick-started his voter Adhikar Yatra in the state.
00:18:56The Congress MP also asserted that he is not scared of the Prime Minister, the Home Minister
00:19:01or the Election Commission and claimed that the special intensive revision process is
00:19:05not about revising but deleting voter rolls.
00:19:08Sharing the same stage, RJD Sain, Tejasvi Yadav also launched a sharp attack on the double
00:19:14engine Sarkar for systematically stripping Bihar's people of their voting rights.
00:19:19Targeting the central leadership, the Bihar leader of opposition said the Gujarat duo cannot
00:19:23decide who will vote in the state.
00:19:25He vowed not to let the Election Commission and the BJP trample the rights of Bihari voters.
00:19:30He also vowed not to let the Election Commission and BJP take away the rights of the voters
00:19:37in the state of Bihar.
00:19:39And remember, earlier the Election Commission dared Rahul Gandhi to show saboot or issue an
00:19:44apology over his vote chori claims.
00:19:46The poll panel asserted that press conferences are insufficient and demanded credible evidence
00:19:51within the next seven days.
00:19:52Following this, the Congress Party accused the Election Commission of displaying blatant
00:19:57partisanship and claimed that the Chief Election Commissioner seemed to be speaking like
00:20:01a BJP spokesperson.
00:20:02So, um, if I click on it, please click on and do this, but that add a flag, the

00:22:16And our top focus of this hour is on
00:22:46Donald Trump and Zelensky's meeting.
00:22:48Now the meeting will be in Washington at 10 p.m. today.
00:22:52We are getting some inside scoop on the meeting.
00:22:55European leaders will be backing Ukrainian President Zelensky in the meeting
00:22:59and ahead of the meet with Zelensky, Trump's big remark.
00:23:03Trump says Zelensky can end war now if he wants to.
00:23:07And in fact, he posts, and I quote,
00:23:09President Zelensky of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately
00:23:13if he wants to, or he can continue to fight.
00:23:15But remember how it started.
00:23:17No getting back Obama given Crimea 12 years ago without a shot being fired
00:23:22and no going into NATO by Ukraine.
00:23:25Some things never change.
00:23:27That's the remark that is being made by U.S. President Donald Trump
00:23:30just ahead of the crucial meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky.
00:23:35The meeting will be, the meeting is slated to take place at 10 p.m. today
00:23:39in Washington, D.C.
00:23:40And European leaders will also be attending this meeting and will be backing Zelensky.
00:23:45But ahead of the meeting with the Ukrainian President Donald Trump has made a big remark
00:23:50saying that if Zelensky wants, he can end the war almost immediately.
00:23:54Or if he wants to, he can continue to fight.
00:23:58Trump has also said that there's no going into NATO by Ukraine as some things never change.
00:24:04Remember, Ukraine has been demanding to be a part of NATO,
00:24:08but Donald Trump has made this remark just ahead of meeting Zelensky
00:24:12that there's no going into NATO by Ukraine.
00:24:15So, Trump and Zelensky are all set to meet in Washington, D.C. at 10 p.m. today.
00:24:25Remember, this meeting comes just days after Donald Trump's meeting
00:24:29with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
00:24:32And today he will be meeting Zelensky on the Russia-Ukraine war.
00:24:37And India Today Global's Prane Upadhyay is now joining us with more details on this.
00:24:41Prane, could this meeting between Donald Trump and Zelensky turn
00:24:45to be the turning point for this Russia-Ukraine war?
00:24:51Indeed, Ajali.
00:24:52A lot of expectations are there because this is going to be a very big meeting
00:24:55because not only the Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky would be there in White House,
00:24:59but along with him, a lot of the European leaders would be accompanying him,
00:25:04including the Husserl of Anderleon, the European Commission Chief.
00:25:09Besides that, the U.K. Prime Minister, Kaya Steymer, George Ambalani,
00:25:14Prime Minister of Italy, and many other European leaders would be accompanying
00:25:19because this issue is not only pertaining to the safety and the ceasefire of Russia-Ukraine conflict
00:25:24and pertaining to Ukraine alone, but it is also related to the larger issue of Europe's security.
00:25:33And that's why all these European leaders have urged to be a part of this process.
00:25:41And that's why President Donald Trump, while returning from Alaska on 15th of August,
00:25:45he dialed up President Zelensky on his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 15th of August.
00:25:52And thereafter, he also rang up to other European leaders as well.
00:25:56And President Donald Trump himself has posted on social media that he would be happy to host so many European leaders.
00:26:03And he is making a sincere effort to find a larger solution to this Russia-Ukraine conflict
00:26:08and have a long-term solution for the peace of Ukraine as well as the larger security and peace issues for Europe.
00:26:16Right. Pranay, also another important statement that has been made by Donald Trump just ahead of the meeting
00:26:22is that he has said no to Ukraine for being a part of NATO.
00:26:27It's pertinent to note that Ukraine has been demanding to be a part of NATO.
00:26:31And just days after meeting Vladimir Putin, is Trump singing Putin's tune?
00:26:35We earlier also saw Trump putting forward the demand made by Russian President of having Donetsk region.
00:26:41You're right, Anjali. But if you see, not even his predecessor, like even President Joe Biden did not confirm the application
00:26:51or did not confirm that Ukraine should be or could become part of NATO.
00:26:56However, President Donald Trump indicated in his conversation with President Zelensky prior to Alaska Summit
00:27:02and even after the Alaska Summit that some arrangement of NATO-like security for security guarantee can be worked out with Ukraine.
00:27:10But that needs to be, you know, that needs to be worked out, that needs to be agreed upon by all the parties
00:27:17because that involves a lot of commitments, whether U.S. will give that commitment or the European nations will give that commitment
00:27:26of security guarantee for Ukraine. That is to be seen.
00:27:30But as far as the entire process is concerned, you know, this process is still underway.
00:27:36And we have to see that what exactly is the formula they want to work out because this is for the first time.
00:27:42And, you know, after February, what happened in February when President Zelensky went to White House
00:27:49and the world saw, world witnessed the kind of ambush he had in White House with President Trump
00:27:55as well as Vice President J.D. Vance and he left the, you know, his official visit midway and returned back to Ukraine.
00:28:05So after that, much has happened and President Trump has also reconciled and President Trump has also reached out to him.
00:28:14And now he is making effort, he is leading the effort to find a solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict,
00:28:20which has lasted for over three years now.
00:28:24And President Putin has also acknowledged the fact that President Trump is making a sincere effort.
00:28:31But the larger question remains that what will be the long-term solution?
00:28:34Because President Putin has already made this clear.
00:28:38Currently, Russian forces are holding at around 19% territory of Ukraine.
00:28:44Will Russia vacate that territory or will there be a territory swap?
00:28:49How much Ukraine has to concede?
00:28:51These are the larger questions which has to be addressed, if a ceasefire has to be worked out.
00:28:57Absolutely. Pranay, thank you so much for getting us those details.
00:28:59We'll keep coming back to you for more updates on the story.
00:29:02After a 10-on-10 meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin,
00:29:09Donald Trump is all set to meet Ukrainian President Zelensky at the Oval Office today.
00:29:13But Zelensky is not coming alone.
00:29:15He will be joined by European leaders in Washington, D.C.
00:29:18However, Trump has a different motive.
00:29:20He wants Zelensky to strike a peace agreement.
00:29:23Trump has made it clear that Ukraine cannot join NATO until the war ends.
00:29:27Ahead of the big meet in Washington,
00:29:29the U.S. Secretary of State has said that both Ukraine and Russia
00:29:32will have to make concessions to reach a peace deal to end the war.
00:29:36Marco Rubio has asserted that when it comes to territories and territorial claims,
00:29:41the final decision should rest with Ukraine.
00:29:44He has also warned Russia of additional consequences if a peace agreement is not reached.
00:29:49The Ukrainian President has emphasized that territorial integrity of the nation
00:29:52is non-negotiable and that there has been no indication from Russia
00:29:56of willingness to engage in a trilateral meeting.
00:30:00He has also claimed that the Russian President has so far refused to offer
00:30:03any form of security guarantees.
00:30:08Since the territorial issue is so important,
00:30:11it should be discussed only by the leaders of Ukraine and Russia
00:30:16and the trilateral Ukraine, United States, Russia.
00:30:19So far, Russia gives no sign that trilateral will happen.
00:30:23And if Russia refuses, then new sanctions must follow.
00:30:28Ukraine must be able to uphold its sovereignty and its territorial integrity.
00:30:34There can be no limitations on Ukrainian armed forces,
00:30:40be it cooperation with or other third countries or assistance from other third countries.
00:30:48No limitations for the Ukrainian armed forces.
00:30:51As I've often said, Ukraine must become a steel porcupine,
00:30:56undigestible for potential invaders.
00:30:59You can't have a peace agreement unless both sides give and get.
00:31:03You can't have a peace agreement unless both sides make concessions.
00:31:06That's a fact.
00:31:06That's true in virtually any negotiation.
00:31:09If not, it's just called surrender.
00:31:11And neither side is going to surrender.
00:31:12So both sides are going to have to make concessions.
00:31:14So of course concessions were asked.
00:31:16But what utility would there be of me going on a program and tell you
00:31:19we've wagged our finger at Putin and told him you must do this and you must do that?
00:31:23It's only going to make it harder and less likely that they're going to agree to these things.
00:31:27So these negotiations, as much as everyone would love it to be a live pay-per-view event,
00:31:32these discussions only work best when they are conducted privately in serious negotiations
00:31:38in which people who have to go back and respond to constituencies.
00:31:42The president has said repeatedly, when it comes to territories and territorial claims,
00:31:47that's ultimately something Ukraine will have to decide.
00:31:49It's their territory.
00:31:50It's their country.
00:31:52Ultimately, what they're willing to live with is what they'll have to decide on.
00:31:54And maybe the answer is they're not willing to live with any of this.
00:31:57We don't know.
00:31:58But that's what we need to explore.
00:31:59In the meantime, the one thing we do know that Ukraine has said repeatedly
00:32:02and publicly talked about is security guarantees.
00:32:06They need to be able to enter into security guarantees that ensure that this is never going
00:32:10to happen again, that they're not going to get reinvaded in two and a half or three years
00:32:13or four years or whenever it may be.
00:32:15They don't want to be back here again.
00:32:16They want to be able to go on to rebuild their country and live their lives.
00:32:19That's a very reasonable request.
00:32:20That's something we're working on.
00:32:22And that's something the Russian side has to understand, obviously, is that as a sovereign
00:32:26country, Ukraine has a right, like every sovereign country, to enter into security alliances and
00:32:31agreements with other countries.
00:32:33Well, if it is a turning point, I think it will only be the latest of what has been a pretty
00:32:37intense back and forth ever since Trump has come into office.
00:32:41The first several months in office, he positioned himself quite closely to Putin, even as Putin
00:32:47continuously reneged on his word.
00:32:50But then shortly going into kind of in the weeks leading up to the Alaska summit, he started
00:32:56to align himself more with Europe to pursue a policy more in line with his predecessor,
00:33:01Joe Biden's.
00:33:02And then over the course of the meeting in Alaska, that was all upended.
00:33:05So could this upend everything again?
00:33:07Could he go back to where he was before the Alaska summit and side more with Europe and Ukraine?
00:33:13Quite possibly.
00:33:13But it's been it's been a lot of whiplash here in the United States.
00:33:17And I think what's particularly notable is that Putin is not only demanding that the
00:33:21world recognize the territory that Russia has already conquered and is currently occupying,
00:33:26but that Ukraine cede territory that it still controls to Russia.
00:33:31And I think what that really shows and what Ukraine is well aware of and what the Europeans
00:33:36are well aware of is that Putin is not really willing to negotiate a good faith end to this war.
00:33:42He hasn't backed off his maximalist war aims, but he seems to be very successful at sweet
00:33:48talking Donald Trump into thinking that that he is some kind of great compromiser and is
00:33:52willing to to settle.
00:33:57And shifting focus, a planned visit by U.S.
00:34:00trade negotiators to New Delhi later this month has reportedly been called off, delaying
00:34:04the talks on a proposed trade agreement and dashing the hopes of relief from additional U.S.
00:34:09tariffs on Indian goods that are set to take effect from August 27.
00:34:12More on this in our next report.
00:34:17While the Alaska meet between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin did not yield any significant
00:34:23breakthrough, it did leave India hopeful for respite from Trump's tyranny of tariffs.
00:34:28From the side of President Trump, I think it indicates that there's some kind of discussion
00:34:37on this definitely with President Putin and some kind of understanding has been reached
00:34:41that they need not put a tariff on the sale of oil that Russia is doing to China, to India
00:34:51and even to the European Union.
00:34:52And there is even trade between USA and Russia, you know.
00:34:56So, obviously, I think it does look like that this question of the additional tariff may
00:35:04not come about.
00:35:05It may be put in abeyance for a bit.
00:35:10But the hopes for relief now appear quashed as a planned visit by U.S.
00:35:14trade negotiators to New Delhi has reportedly been deferred.
00:35:18The visit was originally scheduled for August 25th to 29th, but the current round of negotiations
00:35:25is now likely to be postponed to another date that has yet to be decided.
00:35:31While 25% tariffs on Indian goods came into effect on August 7th, the additional 25% tariffs
00:35:38imposed as penalty for Russian oil imports are set to kick in from August 27th.
00:35:43With time running short, the delay in trade talks further sets back any breakthrough on
00:35:49a trade agreement.
00:35:51Earlier, five rounds of trade talks have failed over disagreement on opening India's vast
00:35:57farm and dairy sectors and stopping Russian oil purchases.
00:36:01But Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to protect farmers in the face of the trade conflict,
00:36:07urging the country to move towards self-reliance.
00:36:10The
00:36:39The opposition has blamed what it calls PM Modi's obstinate stance for the delay in
00:37:02tariff negotiations.
00:37:29If the talks remain deferred as reported, starting August 27th, the new import tax will raise
00:37:35duties on some Indian exports to as high as 50%, the highest levied on any US trading partner.
00:37:42Bureau Report, India Today.
00:37:59During his two-day visit to India, starting today, the meeting to be held on Tuesday assumes
00:38:05significance as it is taking place days before PM Modi's planned trip to China to attend the
00:38:11annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
00:38:14Before calling on the PM, Wang Yi will hold separate talks with External Affairs Minister
00:38:19Daesh Jashankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Duval that could see both sides deliberate
00:38:24on a range of key issues including border situation, trade and also resumption of flight services.
00:38:31So, that's the breaking news that's coming in.
00:38:33Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will be visiting India.
00:38:37It's a two-day visit in which he will be meeting Prime Minister Modi as well.
00:38:41And this visit comes just ahead of Prime Minister Modi's China visit for the SCO summit.
00:38:47We're now being joined by Sun Yeh, who's a CGTN correspondent.
00:38:52She's joining us from Beijing.
00:38:53Sun, do you think this visit by the Chinese Foreign Minister to India could pave the way
00:38:59for durable peace along the China-India border?
00:39:03Sun Yeh, as you said today, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is arriving in India for,
00:39:11we count here, three-day visit for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
00:39:16For its release, he said this visit will dwell a lot on the boundary question.
00:39:23And before Chinese Foreign Minister started for the visit, the spokesperson for China's
00:39:31Foreign Ministry had said that, he had said he hoped the two countries can implement consensus
00:39:39reached last time when the two heads of states were meeting and built mutual trust.
00:39:45And for that boundary question, rounds of talks have taken place, and especially since October,
00:39:55with talks, meetings of foreign ministers.
00:39:59And through all of those talks, both sides have stressed they wanted to strengthen mutual trust
00:40:05and make the situation peaceful.
00:40:08And there are some of the concrete measures that have already taken place since the last
00:40:15time of talks.
00:40:16That's including, I think, some of the things you have already seen.
00:40:20Indian pilgrims, they can come to China, to the Xizang Autonomous Region for their pilgrimage,
00:40:27and that there are more trade and the trade going on.
00:40:32And both sides are reportedly also going to talk this time about, it's reported that they
00:40:40are going to talk about reducing personnel on that boundary issue.
00:40:45Right.
00:40:46So, it is also important to note the timing of this visit by the Chinese Foreign Minister.
00:40:50This visit comes just ahead of Prime Minister Modi's visit to China for the SCO Summit.
00:40:56Right, right.
00:40:57The SCO Summit this year is going to be one of the biggest-scale SCO meeting ever.
00:41:03And China has already said it welcomed Prime Minister Modi to come to SCO Summit in Tianjin
00:41:11late August.
00:41:14And China had said that China hope all of those parties with the SCO meeting will be working
00:41:20together to enter a new stage of high-quality development characterized by greater unity.
00:41:26stronger collaboration, vitality, and greater achievements.
00:41:30Of course, this is almost eight years since Prime Minister Modi's last visit to China.
00:41:38And there are a lot of good signs actually happening before that.
00:41:42We have seen that there are talks that direct flights between China and India could be assuming.
00:41:50And just last month, we have also seen that India has again resumed the issuing of tourist visas to China.
00:42:00The two countries are also this year celebrating 75 years of diplomatic ties.
00:42:08And in the last few months, including the Minister of External Affairs of India, Jay Shankar, his visit here in July, and Duval's visit here in China in June.
00:42:23They've all been talking about the timing, the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, the SCO Summit, and that China and India could be having this, what we call, a tango of elephant and dragon.
00:42:42Right. Sunye, thank you so much for joining us on the broadcast on India today.
00:42:47All eyes now remain on the Chinese Foreign Minister's meeting with Prime Minister Modi.
00:42:52Chinese Foreign Minister is visiting India just ahead of Prime Minister Modi's visit to China for the SCO Summit.
00:42:58And we're getting some more breaking news.
00:43:08Congress slams NDA's VP candidate, Radha Krishnan.
00:43:11Congress says another RSS man fielded as NDA candidate for vice president's post.
00:43:18Congress says another RSS man in another institution.
00:43:22Rift in opposition ranks over NDA VP candidate is the question.
00:43:26Whereas, we also saw SENA UBT praising VP pick by NDA CP Radha Krishnan.
00:43:32But on the other hand, the Congress is slamming the pick by NDA.
00:43:36And Congress is saying that this is another RSS man that has been fielded as the NDA candidate for the vice president's post.
00:43:47And my colleague Piyush Mishra is now joining us with more details on this.
00:43:51Piyush, the opposition seems to be divided as far as the NDA candidate for vice president's post is concerned.
00:43:58On one hand, the SENA UBT is praising the choice.
00:44:01Whereas, on the other hand, now the Congress is slamming the choice,
00:44:04saying that this is just another RSS man for this post.
00:44:08Well, that's right, Anjil.
00:44:11That's the first official word coming in from the Congress party.
00:44:14Manikram Tagore, who is a senior Congress leader in Lok Sabha,
00:44:16has come out with a post on X where he has said that another RSS man has been chosen as the candidate for vice president of India
00:44:25after PM speaker now.
00:44:28This is what his post says.
00:44:30In the end, he says, hope India decides.
00:44:33He's talking about the India alliance.
00:44:35So, as of now, the India alliance has not taken any kind of decision.
00:44:38Today, there's a strategy meet also at 10.15 AM in which the India bloc is going to decide upon its further strategy.
00:44:45But before that, we are now seeing how Congress party coming out and saying that
00:44:49another RSS man has been chosen as the candidate for the vice president of India.
00:44:54Remember that CP Radhakrishnan has had a long tenure of working as the Karikarta in RSS.
00:45:01He has had four decades of serving people through various organizations, be it about Jansang or BJP,
00:45:09or working as a dedicated Karikarta of Sang and RSS.
00:45:14And that's why we are now seeing how the Congress party coming out and slamming the choice of NDA,
00:45:20CP Radhakrishnan, who, you know, will be contesting elections on 9th of September.
00:45:25All right, Piyush, thank you for getting us those details.
00:45:28We'll keep coming back here for more updates on the story.
00:45:34The National Democratic Alliance has announced veteran leader CP Radhakrishnan as its vice presidential candidate.
00:45:40Ahead of the India bloc meeting today to strategize for the VP polls,
00:45:43Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke with the Congress, seeking support for Radhakrishnan.
00:45:48Rajnath Singh is also set to speak to other opposition parties,
00:45:51and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rajiju will be Radhakrishnan's election agent.
00:45:56Radhakrishnan is currently the Maharashtra governor, but has held several key positions in his political journey.
00:46:01He has served as the Tamil Nadu BJP chief in the past.
00:46:04He has also been associated with RSS and Jansang, and comes from the OBC community.
00:46:10Now, the announcement comes just months ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections.
00:46:14Radhakrishnan is a BJP veteran from Tamil Nadu,
00:46:16and has played a key role in building the party's presence in the state.
00:46:20The decision was taken at the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting,
00:46:23which was called to finalize the party's choice for the vice presidential election.
00:46:28Prime Minister Modi has in fact hailed Radhakrishnan's nomination,
00:46:31backing his dedication, humility and intellect,
00:46:34and Prime Minister also lauded his community service and grassroots work over the years.
00:46:39And he goes to the Karnesha,
00:46:54and plays a strong role in the Karnesha and Karnesha,
00:46:59and he goes to the Karnesha and Karnesha.
00:47:02I'm going to say,
00:47:04I'm going to say,
00:47:06I'm going to say,
00:47:08I'm going to say,
00:47:10I'm going to say,
00:47:11The Prime Minister of Adarnia Pradhan Mantri Ji has
00:47:14taken the NIRNNN,
00:47:16We also have to welcome ourself.
00:47:18And Adarnia Pradhan Mantri Ji has
00:47:21in this NIRNNNN,
00:47:23took the NIRNNNN,
00:47:25and took the OBC NETA to
00:47:27take the form of the Uparashnapatti
00:47:29MR.
00:47:36MR.
00:47:45MR.
00:47:49MR.
00:47:58MR.
00:47:58MR.
00:47:59I hope that we will be able to do a great deal with the RADHKIRSHNA.
00:48:09We need to know that in which cases we need to be able to give them.
00:48:25.
00:48:42.
00:48:44.
00:48:49And as CP Radhakrishnan has been chosen as the Vice President
00:49:19candidate, a video of him sternly warning Coimbatore BJP MLA over choosing sides has
00:49:23now gone viral.
00:49:24In the video, CP Radhakrishnan is seen telling BJP MLA that as long as she travels with AIADM
00:49:30K MLA SP Velumani, she wouldn't face any problems otherwise she might vanish.
00:49:35Listen in.
00:49:49Korean President Zelensky says that he has arrived in the United States and he also
00:50:03says that he hopes that Ukraine's shared strength with America and with other European friends
00:50:09will compel Russia to real peace.
00:50:13And in fact, Zelensky goes on to say that he is grateful to President Donald Trump for
00:50:17the invitation and also says that we all equally want to end this war swiftly and securely.
00:50:24So ahead of the much anticipated meeting between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky,
00:50:29Zelensky says that he hopes that the Ukraine's shared strength with America and with the European
00:50:35friends will compel Russia to real peace.
00:50:37And he also goes on to say that they all equally want to end this war swiftly and securely.
00:50:44So Ukrainian President Zelensky is now in United States.
00:50:47The meeting will be taking place at 10 p.m. in Washington, D.C., which will also be attended
00:50:53by the European allies of Ukraine.
00:50:57And Zelensky says that he is grateful to President Trump for the invitation and that they all equally
00:51:03want to end this war swiftly and securely.
00:51:06India Today Global's Pranay Upadhyay is now joining us with more details on this.
00:51:10Pranay Zelensky, ahead of the meeting, says that they all equally want to end this war swiftly and securely.
00:51:16But we already saw the demand that has been made by the Russian side.
00:51:20And also we saw Donald Trump saying no to Ukraine's NATO demand.
00:51:24So will Ukraine have to soften its stance, change its stance that it has been, the demands that it has been making if we talk about NATO or if we talk about the territories?
00:51:36That is, you know, for the world to see that.
00:51:41And we have to wait for the conclusion of the summit, you know, and in White House that what solution they come up with
00:51:48and what is being offered to Russia, what is being offered to Ukraine.
00:51:51But definitely this time there is a difference because Europe, Ukraine want to present it as the issue of collective security of Europe.
00:52:00And that's why you see that not only the Ukrainian President Zelensky is there, but the other European leaders have also expressed their desire to join this conversation.
00:52:09And they are making it as a collective case because that puts, you know, additional pressure on U.S. President Donald Trump to negotiate a fair solution for Ukraine.
00:52:19Because if you see the social media posts of Ukrainian President Zelensky, he not only thanked the U.S. President for the invitation,
00:52:27but he also expressed his commitment that we have a strong desire to end this war quickly and reliably.
00:52:34But the peace must be lasting. And that remains the underlying factor because, you know, he mentioned about in a social media post that the security guarantees were given in 1994 as well.
00:52:45Because you remember, Anjali, that when the Soviet Union disintegrated and Ukraine became an independent country,
00:52:51Ukraine had some nuclear weapons of the Soviet legacy.
00:52:55And at that point of time, Russia and Ukraine, you know, negotiated and denuclearized Ukraine in lieu of a security guarantee.
00:53:04So President Zelensky reminded the global community, especially the United States, that that security guarantee given in 1994 did not work.
00:53:12Also, in Crimea, nobody stood up and, you know, Russia used that land grab as a springboard.
00:53:19And thereafter, you know, again, in 2022, they took another, you know, two regions, Donetsk and Luhansk region of Ukraine.
00:53:28And thereafter, we see, you know, the kind of conflict which is going on.
00:53:32And around 19 to 20 percent of the Ukrainian territory is still in Russian position.
00:53:37So President Zelensky, you know, making it clear that, you know, he doesn't want to cede any territory to Russia.
00:53:45And now we have to see that, you know, what President Donald Trump can work out, because the red lines from the Russian side are also clear.
00:53:52They have said that, you know, no NATO inclusion for Ukraine.
00:53:56Also, some territory swap, President Putin has also indicated.
00:54:01But what those territory would be, because the Russian-speaking Danyask and Luhansk region,
00:54:06which are under the control of Russian forces right now, that was the reason.
00:54:11And that is how the entire conflict started, because, you know, in Ukraine, he wanted Russian language to be included in the curriculum
00:54:20and to be, you know, recognized as a national language, especially the linguistic identity of, you know,
00:54:26Danyask and Luhansk region, which are, you know, shared borders with Ukraine, with Russia.
00:54:31And now they are, both the states of Ukraine have declared their independence and then integration in Russian Federation.
00:54:41So a lot of things have happened in between since 2022.
00:54:45So now President Zelensky is in Washington, D.C. to hold, you know, talks with U.S. President Donald Trump post-Alaska summit.
00:54:53But also, now he is being accompanied by the other European leaders as well.
00:54:58And they are making it as a case of the collective NATO security and the European security.
00:55:03Right.
00:55:04Pranay, as you mentioned that the European leaders will also be attending this meeting.
00:55:07So will it be a joint meeting or Trump will be meeting Zelensky first and then the rest of the leaders?
00:55:13You know, I think President Zelensky will be meeting him first.
00:55:18And thereafter, there will be some meetings because there's a schedule given by the U.S. presidency at the White House.
00:55:29They say that there are multinational meetings with the European leaders.
00:55:33You know, the arrival is at around 15 p.m. local time.
00:55:37And thereafter, the leaders will arrive and participate in a bilateral meeting with the Ukrainian president first at 1.15 p.m.
00:55:44And thereafter, the President Donald Trump and the European leaders will have a takeout with the Ukrainian president.
00:55:53And thereafter, there will be a meeting with the European leaders as well.
00:55:58So we do not know exactly right now what will be the structure of the meeting per se.
00:56:04Because I think the first meeting will be with the Ukrainian president.
00:56:09And thereafter, the other European leaders will join.
00:56:12And then there could be a press event as well thereafter.
00:56:15All right, Pranay, thank you so much for getting us all those details.
00:56:19We'll keep coming back to you for more updates on the story.
00:56:21And now, shifting focus.
00:56:25Rahul Gandhi versus the Election Commission has escalated.
00:56:28Just hours after the Election Commission launched a series of sharp rebuttals against recent allegations of Vote Chori,
00:56:34leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, doubled down.
00:56:38He has accused the Election Commission of being the BJP's Election Chori branch yet again in Bihar
00:56:43as he kick-started his voter Adhikar Yatra in the state.
00:56:46The Congress MP also asserted that he is not scared of the Prime Minister, the Home Minister or the Election Commission
00:56:52and he claimed that the special intensive revision process is not about revising but deleting the voter rolls.
00:56:59Sharing the same stage, RJD leader Tejasvi Yadav also launched a sharp attack on the double-engine Sarkar
00:57:05for systematically stripping Bihar's people of their voting rights.
00:57:09Targeting the central leadership, the Bihar leader of opposition said,
00:57:12the Gujarat duo cannot decide who will vote in the state of Bihar.
00:57:15He vowed not to let the Election Commission and BJP trample the rights of Bihari voters.
00:57:21Earlier, the Election Commission dared Rahul Gandhi to show saboot or issue an apology over his Vote Chori claims.
00:57:28In fact, the poll panel also asserted that press conferences are insufficient
00:57:32and demanded credible evidence within the next seven days.
00:57:35Following this, the Congress Party accused the Election Commission of displaying blatant partisanship
00:57:40and also claimed that the Chief Election Commissioner seemed to be speaking like a BJP spokesperson.
00:57:45And this is the alan of the
00:57:57vote in Hong Kong.
00:58:07and I and all the stakes are saying that we will not do this
00:58:14and we will not do this.
