India Today TV's Amit Bhardwaj takes us inside the Noida International Airport in Jewar, the first phase of which will be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi today
Transcript
00:00Delhi NCR is all set to get its third international airport, one which has been envisioned to be one of
00:07the biggest in Asia.
00:09Noida International Airport which you might have also heard to be Jaewar International Airport.
00:16So I am inside Noida International Airport right now and India today is going to get you exclusive ground report
00:22as to how.
00:23The first look of how this airport is all set to look like when the operations are to begin in
00:29the couple of months from now.
00:31The aerodram certification of the airport has been given and that's why it's the ticking clock has begun.
00:37That countdown has begun for the operations to begin at Noida International Airport.
00:42So like any other airport you can obviously walk through DG Yatra or security check.
00:48Go manual for manual baggage drop, that's the point where you get the boarding pass, your baggage is dropped and
00:55then you go for security check.
00:58But what about if I don't want to get into that long queue, can I skip the queue without actually
01:05having human interaction?
01:06That's pretty much possible at Noida International Airport.
01:09This is the bay where I can actually get my boarding pass if I am flying through Indigo because Indigo,
01:16Air India Express and Akasa, these are the three airline operators who will be flying from here.
01:23So I'll put my PNR out here and that's when I'll get my boarding pass from this particular machine.
01:29There will be sensors all through the airport ensuring that you know as to what is the kind of footfall
01:36that you have at the airport, at a certain section of the airport, be it the washroom area, the baggage
01:42drop-in area or any other part of the airport.
01:45So to ensure that you have maximum support staff there as well as other requirements if at all.
01:52So after dropping our baggage and getting that boarding pass, the next step obviously at any airport is security.
02:00So whatever hand luggage that we are carrying will take out those trays, segregate our elements as being instructed at
02:07any other international airport and that's when you move these trays to this bay.
02:13Now what is very interesting about Noida International Airport, it's going to be the speed through which these trays are
02:21going to be scanned and tracked by the security out here.
02:25One second, one tray.
02:27That's the estimated time that has been developed by Siemens which is the tech partner for this particular area at
02:35the Noida International Airport.
02:37So that also means that the clock is moving fast and you don't have to unnecessarily wait for long at
02:44this particular airport for your trays to be scanned properly.
02:47But having said that, it also means that the elements which has been kept in the tray is as per
02:53the protocol and that's when you enter one of these gates to get the security check done.
03:01Ideally when the airport will be up and running in a few, a couple of months from now, this will
03:07be meant for women but because it's on trial basis right now we are getting you those visuals, the trays
03:12are coming out and here you collect your materials and that's it.
03:17You are ready to head towards the boarding gate but as it is said in the international world and changing
03:25dynamics, airports have also become one of the biggest shopping centers for the passengers who are constantly moving from one
03:33destination to other.
03:34India today brings you this exclusive report from Noida International Airport.
03:39We are standing right on the runway of NIA, the Noida International Airport or which you might have known as
03:47Jaivar International Airport.
03:49Right behind me is the terminal building which is ready, 100% ready for operations.
03:55The arrival, the departure terminal is all set to welcome the passengers, the food terminal, the prayer room, baby care
04:03room and every tech that needs to be installed on the airport has been the terminals have been ready for
04:11that.
04:11It's being rammed up for the final check and why that is being done is because the aerotram licensing has
04:18been given by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and from here the ball has been set rolling.
04:23Now, we are at the runway and to bring you these details, just have a look at this view.
04:294 km long runway of the Noida International Airport which means that almost 28 crafts can stay at the apron
04:39and as far as the runway is concerned, 30 flight operations can happen within an hour.
04:44Now, the bigger question is whether it has been developed in manner and fashion where it can handle the operation
04:53smoothly when the fog conditions happen because the challenge that remains for Delhi International Airport,
05:00that challenge could actually become even bigger for this Noida or Jaivar International Airport because of the Western Uttar Pradesh
05:07weather conditions.
05:09In winters, the fog conditions are quite heavy and that's why as the camera will pan on the other side,
05:15you will see the indicators which have been already installed.
05:18The instrument landing system is right in the place, the ILS is in the place and we are given to
05:24understand that this is cat-free runway which means that even if the visibility is as low as 50 meters,
05:32the ATC can actually enable the landing at this particular runway of Noida International Airport.
05:41So, it's all tech-enabled sensors in place, the best of technology has been installed, Noida's own art, culture, heritage
05:51has been kept in mind while designing the airport.
05:54But even more important, as far as the weather conditions are concerned, Noida's international airport has been developed in a
06:01manner and fashion where in the worst of fog conditions,
06:04even in 50 meter visibility, the landings and take-offs can take place provided the craft and the crew on
06:11that craft are trained for cat-free conditions.
06:14Now, one more important aspect as far as India's air defense system is concerned.
06:20When you have a third international airport coming up within 100 kilometer radius of the national capital,
06:28that is also a signal of India's ramping up of air defense system.
06:33Now, how's that?
06:34Because this civilian airport is also going to become one of the areas where the air defense system infrastructure could
06:43be, you know, kept as and when needed.
06:48Along with that, the air defense system assets are being installed at several of such locations and Noida International Airport
06:57will also facilitate or augment those installations.
07:01And third part is the Sudarshan Chakra mission of India.
07:05By 2038, the Prime Minister Nero Indra Modi's vision is that India's air defense system of Sudarshan Chakra should be
07:12well in place,
07:13making it even more robust as far as our defense part is concerned.
07:18Now, considering the kind of geopolitical tensions that we have seen in the past few years,
07:22having third civilian airport, international airport could actually strengthen not only our civilian infrastructure,
07:30aviation infrastructure, but also help in making our air defense system even better and stronger.
07:38With video journalist Shagun, this is Amit Bhardwaj, reporting for India today from Delhi.
