00:00Other people's basketball skills, we've got to talk about yours.
00:04Uh-oh, are we going to see it, Bill?
00:06Yes, we are going to see a virtual measurement,
00:10which you actually won't see because it's done virtually.
00:14Oh, we'll see it graphically.
00:17Hawkeye.
00:21We obviously still have the chain gang.
00:23You've got to be able to see where you have to get for a first down.
00:26The chain gang is physically on the sidelines, but they no longer come out on the field.
00:31Let's see.
00:32Here is your virtual measurement.
00:34And yes, right smack dab in the middle of the football.
00:40No more business cards.
00:43No index card.
00:47And that was a Cowboy game, too.
00:53So, first down.
00:56Two running plays, 10 yards right there.
01:03Hunter Lipke sets up on the left side.
01:05Scootmaker, the tight end on the right side.
01:07Trying to find some room is Miles Sanders.
01:13Sanders, the former pro bowler.
01:14All right, trying to get out on the edge.
01:21You're asking Tolbert to come down and crack on this defensive end.
01:24He does an okay job.
01:25He's able to get upfield more than what you would like to see.
01:28But that's where this play starts and ends.
01:32Sanders again.
01:33It's close to a virtual measurement.
01:35Miles Sanders, somebody who's been around the league for some time,
01:43I feel like there's a little bit of energy to shift here with the Dallas Cowboys offensive approach on this particular drive.
01:48He has a little bit more juice in his step than what we've seen from the other running backs in the game so far.
01:53Sanders, a former second-round draft pick back in 2019 of the Eagles, now 28 years old.
02:01Javante Williams was the other free agent signing.
02:04I've not seen him in the preseason.
02:06The Cowboys like what they got out of him.
02:08Another former second-round pick.
02:10Milton fires incomplete.
02:12Looking for Jalen Cropper.
02:16This is the one element of his game, Bill, that I really wanted to see him improve upon.
02:21This ball needs to be completed.
02:23This receiver is open.
02:24Everything is coming out on a rope.
02:26When I say a rope, I mean it's coming out in a straight line.
02:29You know how everybody loves Russell Wilson's deep balls and fade balls because they have that loft and a little airiness to them?
02:34That's what Milton has to add to his repertoire.
02:36If he's able to add that, then he has one, a quarterback that has all the other skill sets to really capitalize and be a force in his league.
02:43But he has to learn how to throw that ball.
02:45That has to be completed.
02:46So now at fourth down, trying to get it on the ground, and Sanders is right there.
02:53You've got a great view of it from your perch up here, Isaiah.
02:56Stand back.
02:57Do you need a virtual measurement?
02:59What are you thinking?
03:00What is your virtual measurement of this?
03:02Well, I have my own set of Hawkeyes inside my head right here, Bill.
03:05And I'm going to say that the Cowboys are short on this particular one.
03:09But I still think that we might get the Hawkeye.
03:11Just judging by the spot right there.
03:13I'm out for virtual measurement.
03:14Yeah, let's go.
03:17Why not?
03:18We have the technology, Bill.
03:19We might as well use it.
03:23Looks pretty clear from here.
03:29From the Lenovo Skycam, another look.
03:32See Nate Thomas, number 71, the left tackle.
03:36Yeah, Nate Thomas, again, he's got his butt turned in the hole.
03:40You don't want to see your linemen get vertical, turn sideways in the middle of a running lane.
03:46You want those guys to get underneath the pad level of the defense alignment
03:48and work their guys backwards.
03:50I don't know if Coach Schottenheimer likes this new virtual measurement thing as much
04:02because he can't see it.
04:04He just has to wait for the result.
04:06Like the rest of us.
04:07Yep.
04:07But waiting with anticipation.
04:10Was to save time.
04:11They say it saves up to 30 seconds.
04:13Yes, that's right.
04:14That's the word on the street, Bill.
04:15Yep.
04:15The key thing is the spot more so than the measurement, don't you think?
04:18Very much so.
04:19Very much so.
04:20And you can't challenge that spot.
04:21And the people at home, they no longer have the anticipation of seeing the chain game,
04:27line it up, get it held, walking out there, setting it back down, extending it out.
04:33So even though it feels like it's taking more time, it's not.
04:36It's actually saving time, which is condensing the game.
04:38And I know you've done a lot of baseball in the past.
04:40Baseball has condensed their games, right, by cutting out some of the extra time in terms
04:45of pitching timers and things of that nature.
04:47So this is just the NFL's way of trying to enhance the experience of the fans.
04:54And the Ravens celebrate.
04:56It was pretty evident from up here that the Cowboys were short.
05:00And there you'll take a look at how short.
05:04You don't get that.
05:05That's one foot three inches.
05:07We got specifics there with the virtual measurement.
05:10Yeah, my Hawkeye system here in my head doesn't work that well.
05:15So the Cowboys back on defense here.
05:20Cowboys have just had three possessions in this game.
05:24Seven and a half minutes to play here in the second quarter.
05:28Cooper Rush stays in there at quarterback for Baltimore.
05:31Still got Mozzie Smith lining up at defensive tackle.
05:34Perry and Winfrey, Peyton Turner at right defensive end.
05:38Donovan Ezraku, 41 at left defensive end.
05:50Rush going downfield.
05:51This game brought to you by United Ag and Turf,
06:02the official Ag and Turf equipment supplier of the Dallas Cowboys.
06:06Christian Matthew is defending on the play,
06:09and it's a first down for the Ravens.
06:14Cowboys again are coming with this off coverage.
06:16It looks like it's quarters coverage.
06:18Always looking at those safeties as a quarterback.
06:22That's the first thing that you want to identify.
06:23They roll to the single high safety to get some extra defenders at the line of scrimmage.
06:27Damone Clark does a good job of getting his hands on the running back.
06:31The Ernest Johnson brought down after a couple of yards.
06:38Damone Clark's getting a good amount of work in this game.
06:41Talk about somebody who's been up and down in the rotation during his tenure here at the Dallas Cowboys.
06:45But somebody that, when present, has been effective.
06:49Somebody who led the team two years ago in tackles.
06:52One guy we haven't seen tonight or in the preseason,
06:55a veteran, Kenneth Murray, who is projected to line up alongside Jack Sanborn.
07:01Perhaps Maris Leofal.
07:03But Vaughn Clark trying to win his way into that rotation at linebacker.
07:07And Rasheen Ali opened down the sideline for another Ravens first down.
07:15This is just a form of a swing screen by the Baltimore Ravens.
07:19Shamar James had his eyes caught on the quarterback and didn't get out to his assignment until too late.
07:23So that was just a leverage game there.
07:30Big Mozzie Smith right there getting his work as well.
07:33They're going to leave the big fella in there.
07:35First-round draft pick from a handful of years ago.
07:37Still has a lot to show and prove to this coaching staff.
07:40It's a whole new team here, a whole new coaching staff.
07:42So he has to prove himself.
07:44It doesn't matter what you've done before.
07:45Into the 24-yard line.
07:49Damone Clark in on the stop.
07:52Flag down across the field.
07:57We're talking about Mozzie Smith.
07:59Matt Eberfus asked about him and talked about the attack-style defense of the Cowboys.
08:06It's important for him to be able to get off the football,
08:08penetrate with all of their defensive linemen, shed blocks, and make plays.
08:15One thing about Mozzie Smith, he's not a man of many words,
08:27but when you see his interviews throughout the week, he owns up to his own mess.
08:33He doesn't shy away from it.
08:34People ask him direct questions here at the Dallas Media.
08:37And he says, hey, I need to do better.
08:39They asked, well, how do you feel like you played?
08:41He said, I got to show up.
08:43Like, I was there, I was present, but I didn't make an impact on the game.
08:46So I like to see that maturity out of him.
08:49Now you just want to see him show up and start being an impact on the game.
08:53He started all 17 games last year at 41 tackles.
08:58Had over 500 snaps a year ago.
09:01And no running room that time, and it's Damone Clark penetrating
09:15and making the tackle for loss.
09:18These linebackers are playing downhill, Bill.
09:21Seed ball, hit ball.
09:23Let's go ahead and look at it.
09:24Damone Clark's right here in the middle of your screen.
09:26Boom, there he is.
09:27You're going to see him track the ball.
09:29Stagger, stagger, stagger.
09:30Boom, come fill the gap.
09:31That's exactly what you want to see.
09:32Everybody else is welcome to the party as well.
09:35But I'm going to be the first one to make the first contact.
09:38Loss of two yards for Rasheen Ali.
09:46Seven tackles in this game for Clark.
09:48That's Anthony Miller, the former Chicago Bear.
09:51Not much there.
09:52That's a good job by Kimon Hall, the Dallas Cowboys, the nickel position,
09:59being able to shed the block of the tight end for somebody who's so small.
10:03You just heard Coach Eberfluser on the broadcast talk about how his corners need to be able to tackle.
10:07That's when they will become a good tackling team,
10:09where you just saw one of the smallest guys on the field taking on somebody who was a mammoth in comparison to him
10:14and was able to shed that individual and go make a play.
10:17Playing in that slot.
10:18Of course, that's a big position of need for the Cowboys after Jordan Lewis signed in free agency with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
10:26Jordan Lewis, one of the best slot corners in the league last year.
10:29And the coverage over there by Troy Pryde on LeJounte Wester.
10:35Really good coverage.
10:37Really good pressure on the left side by Israel Mukwamu.
10:41Troy Pryde was able to keep his eyes on the quarterback the entire time.
10:44And because of that, he was able to drive down on the ball and go get a PBU pass breakup.
10:49Boom.
10:50Good job securing a tackle, which is left hand.
10:53Breaking up the pass with his right hand.
10:54You see it.
10:55Left hand grab.
10:56Right hand swat.
10:57As long as the referees don't see it, it's not a foul, right, Bill?
11:00It works if they don't throw the flag.
11:04Tyler Loop.
11:06The University of Arizona, rookie sixth-round draft pick, trying to replace Justin Tucker, place kicker.
11:12And just like Justin Tucker, he can bomb it from 51 yards.
11:17Had a 62-yarder in college at Arizona.
11:20The pride of Lovejoy High School here in the Metroplex adds to the Ravens' lead
11:25with less than four minutes to play here in the first half.
11:28Now 15-7, the Ravens' lead.
11:35Step into the stories of America's bravest heroes at the National Medal of Honor Museum.
11:40Here in Arlington, reserve your tickets now at mohmuseum.org
11:46to discover courage, honor, and sacrifice.
11:54Right here in the Arlington Entertainment District, it's a great place to come visit.
11:59Come in for a Cowboys game during the season.
12:02By the way, salute to heroes.
12:06Not only tonight here at the stadium, but in training camp.
12:09That was one of the best days of training camp when the Cowboys honored the military heroes.
12:17The Cowboys organization always does a really good job of acknowledging those that have
12:21paid the ultimate sacrifice.
12:26You see it right there at the Medal of Honor Museum.
12:28Something that was a big deal for the Jones family.
12:31It was well-received by the Dallas community.
12:33From the seven-yard line.
12:43Jalen Cropper gets past the 25.
12:48AT&T, official sponsor of the Dallas Cowboys.
12:52Connecting changes everything.
12:56Let's see if Joe Milton can connect with a wide receiver on this possession.
13:00Well, they're going to need to do something to beat up some of that time of possession
13:05discrepancy that they have right now between them and the Baltimore Ravens.
13:09The Ravens are on the line of scrimmage, which means they have owned the time of possession,
13:12as you mentioned earlier in broadcast.
13:19Fourth possession of the game for the Cowboys.
13:22And over the middle, that's his tight end, who scored a touchdown.
13:25Or rather, that is not fair weather.
13:28Instead, that is the guy we've been looking for for a while for the Cowboys.
13:33He's battled injuries.
13:34John Stevens.
13:35Great to see him with the catch here.
13:38Just a little curl over the middle, and that'll get you jump-started.
13:41Not only John Stevens gets jump-started, but maybe Joe Milton as well.
13:45You saw my highlighter right there.
13:46That was Deuce Vaughn, who was able to hit the big block.
13:48Might have been inspired by Maurice Jones-Drew, another undersized running back from Times Pass.
13:53He's stepping up there and making a big hit to allow his quarterback to deliver a completion.
13:57Overshoots Ryan Flanoy.
13:59He had some pressure at his feet as he released the football that time.
14:06That's one of the most underrated characteristics of running backs in this league today, Bill.
14:11You know, if people start talking about running back by committee, that's kind of the new thing.
14:15Deuce Vaughn's been here for a handful of years now.
14:17He needs to make a presence his presence felt.
14:19He's actually one of the running backs in this deep room that possesses different characteristics than everybody else.
14:25He's shifty.
14:26He's quick.
14:27He's elusive.
14:28He can catch out of the backfield.
14:30And if he can prove that he can also pass block, that's what might be what separates him from everybody else.
14:37Some power on that run.
14:40Got six yards there.
14:42Little 45.
14:43There's that running back room with Williams and Sanders.
14:46Jaden Blue, fifth-round draft pick out of Texas, who has been nicked up, hoping that he might be able to be ready to go the next preseason game on Friday.
14:55We shall see.
14:55But Deuce Vaughn getting his opportunity.
14:57And we saw Phil Moffa.
14:58And how about Malik Davis, less than 36 hours after arriving at camp last week.
15:04And he put on a show.
15:06Straight off the couch, baby.
15:10Milton flushed out.
15:11Now into pressure.
15:13And we'll just throw it away.
15:14Joe Milton did everything he could in terms of trying to buy time.
15:22But receivers did not find any openings for him down the field.
15:27There was a really good coverage by the Baltimore Ravens.
15:29What we call sticky defense, a.k.a. Velcro.
15:32Guys were not able to get open.
15:34Milton did a good job of just getting the ball away, not taking a negative play.
15:37So, Brian Anger is on Cowboys punter.
15:50Look out for LeJonte Wester, the return man for the Ravens, who took one to the house last week.
15:55About this same spot on the field.
15:58Be a good test for special teams, but a fair catch called at the 16-yard line.
16:02Good coverage by the Cowboys.
16:04And, of course, the usual good punt from Brian Anger.
16:07Tonight's Bank of America defensive player of the game.
16:13We feature Kair Elam, the fourth-year cornerback acquired in a trade this offseason
16:19from the Buffalo Bills.
16:21Bank of America, the official bank of the Dallas Cowboys.
16:25Kair Elam, the son of a former Cowboy, Abram Elam.
16:30That was my teammate, Bill.
16:31My early years here in Dallas, back in 07 when I was drafted here.
16:38I didn't recognize it until we were at training camp, and Abe, his father, ran up on me and said,
16:43What's up, Isaiah?
16:44You know you see somebody, and you're like, Hey, you look familiar.
16:48He was like, Yeah.
16:49I'm like, What's up, Abe?
16:52I'm like, What are you doing here?
16:53He's like, My son's out here.
16:54Y'all said, I'm sorry, what?
16:58And his son, by the way, was doing a good job ever since he arrived here in Dallas.
17:04Kair Elam.
17:06Down to the two-minute warning here in the first half.
17:11Cowboys trailing the Ravens 15-7 back to the stadium in a moment.
17:15Ladies and gentlemen, Isaiah, stand back, ask and ye shall receive.
17:27How about a little Abe Elam from back in your day?
17:31Yes, sir.
17:32What's up, Abe?
17:34Abe actually had two stints with the Cowboys.
17:36In fact, he was a 16-game starter in 2011 with Dallas.
17:41Now his son, Kair Elam.
17:42And by the way, Kair's uncle, Matt Elam, was a Baltimore Raven.
17:49That's wild.
17:50In fact, he was a first-round pick of the Ravens in 2013.
17:54Now, listen, Abe has to be in his mid-40s at this point, right?
17:58Right.
17:58He looks like he could still play.
18:00Well, Cowboys are, with the injury issues that the Cowboys have,
18:05maybe Abe Elam is working out right now as he watches his son.
18:08Would that be the first father-son combo on defense in the league?
18:12We have to do some history lessons on that one.
18:13They can do a LeBron.
18:19All right, Baltimore's going no huddle.
18:21Trying to take advantage of the two-minute drill opportunity here in the preseason.
18:26And how about that?
18:28Coming up with the pick off the hands of Ali.
18:31Again.
18:31And that's the guy that does it every year.
18:34Every year in the preseason, Kimon Hall.
18:37Do you believe in the mean green of North Texas, Kimon?
18:40Really on the field, his interception.
18:43First down, Dallas.
18:44Last year, he had a pick six in Vegas.
18:47This year, he puts the Cowboys in position with 134 to play in the second quarter.
18:53You'll see him, Kimon, right here.
18:55Again, eyes at the quarterback, sitting in the zone.
18:58As soon as he sees a running back right in front of him, he just drives on it.
19:01Tips and overthrows.
19:03Got to get those.
19:05Good job, Kimon Hall.
19:06Taking advantage of the opportunity.
19:07Very similar to the one he had last year.
19:10He said, I'll be that like Redman.
19:11I'll take that all day long.
19:14Stick him on his shoulder pad.
19:16Sat on his shoulder pad, and he brought it in.
19:19Kimon Hall.
19:20Hey, we'll take gifts in August, too.
19:23We'll take gifts in August, as well.
19:25Good field position for Joe Milton.
19:27See if the Cowboys can just get some points out of this.
19:32Going deep down field.
19:36And in the end zone, the Ravens take it away.
19:43Not a good ball.
19:45There's two things that went wrong in this play, Bill.
19:48Jonathan Mingo versus a single high safety, took an inside release.
19:53And did not get back out on his stem.
19:57Which means he did not get back outside of the numbers.
19:59So he goes inside and stays inside.
20:02Only problem is, there's another man back here that's looking at him called a safety.
20:06So he stays on the inside of the numbers.
20:08You want to see him work back away from that safety.
20:11Make it difficult for the safety to get over the top.
20:14Milton made the second bad move by throwing the ball.
20:17If your receiver runs on the wrong landmark, you do not reward him by throwing it and making
20:22the second worst mistake, which is eventually a turnover.
20:25And Reuben Lowry, who made the interception in the end zone for the Ravens, he has impressed
20:29Baltimore throughout camp.
20:31Undrafted free agent out of Chattanooga.
20:34And he was just waiting for that one in the end zone.
20:38In the second straight week, that Milton has thrown an interception in the end zone.
20:45Into double coverage.
20:48Just don't compound one problem with another problem.
20:50That's one thing that young quarterbacks have to learn.
20:53As much as you want to have that big splash play, can't put your team in harm's way.
20:57You had a great turnover.
20:59Keep the possession.
21:00You had time.
21:01Work your offense.
21:02Your opportunities will come.
21:05We saw our Winstar halftime show coming up here.
21:16Cooper Rush has gone all the way for the Ravens at quarterback here in the first half.
21:22Charlie Kohler.
21:27Kohler out of Iowa State.
21:29Boy, the tight end situation for the Ravens.
21:31Of course, they've got Mark Andrews.
21:32They've got Isaiah Lightley as well.
21:34And Kohler is their third tight end.
21:36Gets a lot of playing time during the regular season out of Norman, Oklahoma.
21:40Baltimore.
21:40And Iowa State University.
21:42Be 30 seconds in length.
21:44Block operator, please reset.
21:45He's 43 seconds, 4-3.
21:48He's somebody who came in as a receiving tight end but found his way to the lunchroom to put
21:54on some weight.
21:55And now he's a true tight end who's really learned how to block in the trenches.
21:58Closed captioning brought to you by the Texas Lottery, making this Cowboys preseason football
22:03telecast accessible to everyone regardless of hearing abilities.
22:07Yeah, you mentioned Kohler.
22:09Talk about a smart player.
22:11He won the academic Heisman, the Campbell Trophy at Iowa State.
22:16Mechanical engineering major.
22:18And by the way, the guy who had the interception, Reuben Lowry at Chattanooga, he was a mechanical
22:23engineering major too.
22:25How about that?
22:25Is that what you did too?
22:26Of course not.
22:28That's a sign of a smart player.
22:31That's Travis Frederick stuff.
22:33Yeah.
22:34He had two engineering degrees, I think, at Wisconsin.
22:43Wide open receivers.
22:45Cowboys brought to DB.
22:48That's Dayton Wade.
22:51Rush was able to pick him apart there.
22:52Yeah, that's just a fire zone blitz that one area of the zone did not get accounted for.
23:00The offensive line is able to block it up.
23:02There's some huge opportunities for the offense.
23:04Great opportunity for 41.
23:06Donovan Ezraku.
23:07You see James Houston right there as well.
23:10Both of these guys have a chance to go out there and wreak some havoc right now with there
23:13being 37 seconds left in the half.
23:14You know they're in a throwing situation.
23:16Go hunt and get the quarterback.
23:17Good job by Perry on Winfrey and I believe it was Houston on the inside doing a good job
23:35of just running a stunt, being able to elicit some pressure.
23:38Actually, it was Ernest Brown.
23:40My apologies, Ernest Brown and Perry on Winfrey, able to get some pressure on the quarterback
23:43on Cooper Rush there.
23:45Simple stunt, little TT stunt.
23:49Makes it hard for the offensive line to decipher who it is that they're responsible for.
23:52So 55, Justin Barron in there at middle linebacker for the Cowboys, undrafted out of Syracuse.
23:57Going underneath is Rush, running away from Barron, and it's Shamar James with the tackle.
24:06I like Shamar James.
24:09This dude is instinctive.
24:12No hesitation whatsoever.
24:19Timeout.
24:20Baltimore.
24:22Second of the half.
24:23Again, 30 seconds.
24:24United Healthcare Community Highlight of Camp occurred when the Cowboys partnered with United
24:30Healthcare to host Heroes Appreciation Day for Naval Base Point Magoo.
24:35First responders and their families, guests were invited to attend practice, meet Cowboys
24:39players afterwards, creating unforgettable memories and honoring those who serve California
24:45communities and country.
24:47By the way, among those there that day, Luke Schoonmaker's brother, Jack, who has been
24:54in the U.S. Marines, stationed in Southern California for seven years, he's been in the
24:59Marines.
25:00It's great to see him there.
25:02That entire household looks the exact same.
25:05The father and both sons are like clones of each other.
25:08That's right.
25:09Scott Schoonmaker, the dad who played college basketball.
25:12They're all huge.
25:15Under pressure is Rush.
25:16He gets out of trouble and throws downfield to an open receiver.
25:21Zion Childress defending Anthony Miller.
25:24Starting to see Coach Eberfue's getting his bag a little bit.
25:27Starting to let the defensive line start to run some stunts.
25:30Eberfue that elicits some pressure, but the quarterback can work his feet in the pocket.
25:34Locker running down to three, two, one.
25:43Timeout called.
25:50What I was saying there was that Eberfue says you can get the sense that he's kind
25:55of getting annoyed by not getting any pressure on the quarterback.
25:58So he doesn't want to show too much in the preseason.
26:00So he's like, let me at least let my guys run some basic stunts.
26:03I mean, we sell two plays on this drive now.
26:06There is no charge timeout to Baltimore.
26:08The ruling on the field was out of bounds, so the clock will be stopped.
26:13Okay, so they put 16 seconds back on the clock here.
26:17That's a big difference in one.
26:2116 seconds from the 29-yard line.
26:23Ravens with one timeout left for Baltimore.
26:26Gives you at least three shots at the end zone here, Bill.
26:28Now for Cooper Rush, he's trying to take his shots down the field or out of bounds.
26:36Tuckled inbounds at the 24-yard line by Christian Matthew as Anthony Miller stopped with nine seconds left.
26:54Yeah, you saw immediately they're trying to run an out route from the slot position.
26:59The intention was to get a quick five, six yards and then get out of bounds, improve their field position.
27:06Well, obviously, Matthews was fully aware of what they were trying to do,
27:09was able to get the man down inbounds, which forces Baltimore to then go ahead and utilize their last timeout.
27:14Well, they did not take it all the way down to three seconds left or so.
27:18They stopped it with nine seconds left.
27:21Instead, bring the field goal kicker on, Tyler Lue.
27:24That's interesting.
27:26Preseason, even for the John Harbaugh's of the world game management.
27:31Well, you still wonder, why would I leave them additional time to potentially get a return?
27:36Yep.
27:37Maybe a fake in the preseason?
27:40Well, no fake.
27:44And Tyler Lue, 42 yards, tacks on three more for the Ravens.
27:51With five seconds left here in the first half, making an 18-7 game.
27:56I mentioned earlier that Tyler Lue had a 62-yard field goal in college in Arizona.
28:08How about Brandon Aubrey against the Ravens last year, a career-high franchise record, 65-yard field goal.
28:19You got that in your bag.
28:20Second longest in NFL history.
28:24Of course, Jacksonville's rookie kicker last week kicked a 70-yarder in the preseason.
28:31You know what they told him?
28:32Doesn't count because it's not the regular season.
28:35And the aforementioned Justin Tucker at the NFL record, 66 yards.
28:42That's going to fall.
28:44I mean, the way kickers around the league are booming them from 50, 60 yards.
28:49Well, you're starting to get to the point now with the kickoff rules, you're going to see a lot more returns, right?
28:55Because your teams don't want the allowed opposing team to start on the 35-yard line.
28:58So they're going to try to get it in the drop zone, not like what we're going to see right here.
29:03But with the ability of these kickers being able to drive them 50 yards out, it makes for a short scoring possession.
29:10For five seconds left, Milton and the Cowboys will be at 35.
29:14This game brought to you by Farmer's Dog.
29:17Fresh, real food delivered to your door, tailored for your dog.
29:22The official dog food partner of the Dallas Cowboys.
29:31And it looks like the Cowboys will take a knee and go to the half.
29:35I want to see a fake knee Hail Mary.
29:41Got that one in your bag.
29:45With Dan Marino back in the day.
29:49Going way back.
29:50So the clock runs out here in the first half as the Cowboys, not much production at all on offense.
29:59And not a lot of opportunities as the Ravens control the ball, control the clock throughout the first half.
30:06It's down to the sideline and Kyle Yeomans.
30:08Kyle?
30:09Yeah, Coach, your thoughts through two quarters here today?
30:11Yeah, well, obviously they're dictating the tempo right now.
30:14I mean, they're getting after us pretty good.
30:15We got to respond in the second half.
30:17Got to convert third downs.
30:19Got to get stops on third down.
30:20They're winning the trenches right now, and that's the story of the game.
30:23You mentioned the trenches.
30:23How do you get better in the second half?
30:25Keep executing.
30:26You know, again, get ahead of the sticks.
30:28Win some first downs.
30:29Stop the run.
30:29Right now we're not winning first and second down.
30:31So we're putting ourselves in third and longs on offense.
30:34Having third and shorts on defense.
30:35But we've got 30 minutes to play.
30:37So, again, it's the way the game goes sometimes.
30:39Thanks, Coach.
30:41All right.
30:41Our thanks to head coach Brian Schottenheimer and Kyle Yeomans,
30:44who will be joined on the Winstar Halftime Show in just a moment
30:49as we continue from AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
31:02Dallas Cowboys preseason football continues.
31:05The Winstar Halftime Report.
31:07Cowboys trailing the Ravens 18-7 at the half.
31:11Bill Jones along with Isaiah Stanbacker here in the Globe Life broadcast booth
31:16here at AT&T Stadium.
31:19Not pretty as far as the Cowboys offense goes in the first half, Isaiah,
31:22but the Cowboys making a couple of plays on defense, though.
31:25Yeah, they are able to make a couple of plays on defense.
31:27You're starting to see closer to the end of that first half,
31:30the defensive line start to elicit some pressure.
31:32And when you saw that pressure pick up,
31:33you start seeing the defensive backs be the benefactors of that.
31:36Andrew Booth is able to get an interception running back.
31:38Keymon Hall was able to get an interception as well for tip and overthrow.
31:42So you're starting to see these guys get some pressure up front,
31:44but you want to see it more consistently.
31:45Yep, and they had the pick six by Andrew Booth,
31:48the interception by Keymon Hall,
31:50but they couldn't get the Ravens off the field on a regular basis in the first half.
31:54We'll see what the second half brings.
31:56And to start things off, the kickoff goes out of bounds.
31:59So the Cowboys have decent field position to start the second half
32:03with Joe Milton at quarterback.
32:05Kickoff out of bounds, kicking team number 33.
32:08The ball will be placed at the 40-yard line.
32:11First down, Dallas.
32:16Let's go down to the sideline, and Kyle Yeomans.
32:20Yeah, thanks, guys.
32:21Caught up with Conor Riley coming out of the tunnel.
32:24Speaking on this offensive line, he felt like they did some good things.
32:27Guys like Tyler Booker, guys like Cooper Beebe had decent first halves,
32:30but he felt like as a collective unit they have to do a better job
32:33of moving the line of scrimmage.
32:35Got to connect early, be more physical,
32:38and continue to push and give time for guys like Joe Milton
32:40behind the line of scrimmage.
32:42First play is a run up the middle from Deuce Vaughn.
32:46As you see Nate Thomas, 71, still in the game at left tackle,
32:50and that's one of the issues for the Cowboys in training camp
32:53was the loss of Tyler Guyton to an injury.
32:55They're hoping that Guyton might be back in time
32:58for the season opener at Philadelphia,
33:00so keep an eye on 71, second-year player
33:02out of the University of Louisiana here
33:06as long as he stays in the game here in the second half.
33:10Milton fires to the right side to Ryan Flannoy,
33:13sixth-round draft pick last year.
33:16I feel like Kyle's halftime report there from the offensive line,
33:19they must have had an earpiece
33:20and was listening to our broadcast the first half, Bill,
33:23because that's exactly what we've been talking about
33:24the entire first half,
33:25is their ability to try to establish some kind of legitimacy
33:30at the line of scrimmage.
33:31But as you look at these,
33:33look at the personnel,
33:34the defensive line and the offensive line of Baltimore
33:38has a sizable advantage,
33:40but you can win against that with leverage.
33:42Third down, Milton rolls out, throws downfield,
33:46it goes incomplete.
33:48He was looking for Jonathan Mingo there.
33:58Yeah, you see, again, waiting, waiting, waiting,
34:00and then the ball's just left behind.
34:02Third down situation right there.
34:04We saw it pop up last week with Joe Milton
34:07when he got focused on trying to stiff-arm a defender
34:10instead of getting the first down.
34:11There he throws a ball behind Mingo
34:14with a pretty much impossible play
34:16when the yard marker was right there in front of him
34:18and he could have just clearly gotten the first down.
34:20These are the awareness things
34:22that we have to see him continue to improve on,
34:24and it only gets better with the more that he plays.
34:27Ryan Inger on the punt.
34:29Three and out for the Cowboys to start the third quarter.
34:32And the punt goes into the end zone for a touchback.
34:41Andrew Booth comes down.
34:43He made a nice tackle on the return, man.
34:46I'm sure he did not have the football.
34:50No dirty lunch.
34:54This game is brought to you by Gillette,
34:57the official shave of the Dallas Cowboys.
35:02Joe Milton and the Cowboys trailing the Ravens
35:07here early in the third quarter
35:09after a three and out to start the third.
35:1118-7 Ravens lead.
35:13And the quarterback into the game for Baltimore.
35:15As Cooper Rush went the entire first half of this game
35:19and threw 30 passes.
35:20He was 20 out of 30 for 198 yards.
35:23One touchdown and two interceptions.
35:25And Devin Leary is now in at quarterback.
35:29Leary, by the way,
35:30sixth-round draft pick of the Ravens last year.
35:36Joe Milton, of course,
35:37a sixth-round draft pick last year
35:38of the New England Patriots.
35:41From the 20-yard line.
35:42And under pressure,
35:48Tyrus Wheat gets away from him.
35:50Slide down.
35:54After a pickup of a yard and a half.
35:56Good job by this secondary
35:58just really staying
35:59in their zones
36:01and keeping their eyes on the quarterback.
36:03You see everybody's eyes
36:04are looking at the quarterback
36:05while Tyrus Wheat continues to try to work.
36:07And then once he decides
36:08to cross the line of scrimmage,
36:09everybody go hunt
36:10and get something to eat.
36:12Really paying attention
36:13to these defensive backs right now, Bill,
36:15because the Dallas Cowboys
36:16and the cornerback roommates
36:17in particular
36:18are very thin.
36:20Trayvon Diggs
36:20still working his way back
36:21from his knee injury.
36:23Kaelin Carson
36:23still working his way back.
36:26Shabon Rebel,
36:27the draft pick this year,
36:28working his way back.
36:30So you have three guys
36:31that you know
36:31are going to be on this roster
36:32and eventual,
36:34most likely your starters,
36:36they're all out.
36:37So you saw Kyer Elam earlier
36:39that we talked about.
36:40Now you have Andrew Booth
36:41who got an interception.
36:42Now you have, you know,
36:44Troy Price and Troy Price
36:46in the game right now.
36:47We saw Keman Hall
36:48with an interception earlier.
36:49So these guys
36:50not only are fighting
36:51for roster spots,
36:53but these guys
36:54that you're seeing right now
36:55are going to be contributing
36:56on this roster
36:57against Philadelphia
36:58on the opening night.
37:00And Israel Mukwamu,
37:01who's played cornerback,
37:02who's moved inside a little bit,
37:04played a little bit of nickel.
37:05On this series,
37:06he's been playing safety,
37:07strong safety at that.
37:09So you're seeing
37:09Coach Iberpulsh
37:10really try to get an idea
37:11of who he can count on
37:13in this particular drive.
37:15George Duran Bland
37:16is the healthy
37:17returning starting cornerback
37:19who is not playing
37:21in the preseason,
37:22but he is healthy
37:22and he's looking good.
37:24But there otherwise
37:26are a lot of question marks
37:27at the cornerback position
37:29due to the injuries.
37:33Josh Kelly
37:34under pressure
37:36returns the punt.
37:39There is a flag down
37:40back at the line of scrimmage.
37:42And you talk about
37:45Duran Bland
37:46and this secondary room
37:47is actually one
37:48that we would consider
37:49to be relatively deep
37:50and strong
37:51when healthy.
37:53And that's the only issue
37:54is when they're healthy,
37:55they're going to be
37:56a problem
37:57for opposing offenses,
37:58but they have to get
37:59to that point
38:00where they are all available.
38:02The best ability
38:02is availability.
38:03And right now,
38:04majority of the cornerback room
38:05for the Dallas Cowboys
38:06are not available.
38:07We're sold
38:10the kicking team
38:11number 41.
38:12A 10-yard penalty
38:13will be added to the end
38:14of the play.
38:15First down, Dallas.
38:17Ann Clark,
38:18the referee tonight.
38:21And
38:21that will improve
38:23the field position
38:25for Joe Milton.
38:26Let's get started here
38:27in the third quarter.
38:28Trying to get something
38:29going on offense.
38:32This broadcast
38:33is copyrighted.
38:33Bird's eye view
38:37of the game
38:38here at AT&T Stadium
38:39from the Lenovo Skycam.
38:42Smarter technology
38:43for all.
38:48Now we take over
38:49on offense
38:50from their own
38:5126-yard line here.
38:52Still early
38:53in the third quarter,
38:54Brian Schottenheimer
38:55his first year
38:57as the Cowboys head coach.
38:59Trying to
38:59see what
39:01Joe Milton
39:02has to offer
39:02here in the second half.
39:05And up the middle
39:05goes Deuce Vaughn
39:06pushing the pile.
39:07Cowboys still have
39:08in the game
39:09on that offensive line
39:10the first round draft pick
39:12number 52,
39:13Tyler Booker
39:13at right guard.
39:16And at left tackle
39:17is Nate Thomas,
39:19number 71,
39:20who as it stands
39:21right now
39:21is getting the first crack
39:23at replacing Tyler Guyton
39:24at that left tackle position.
39:27Cowboys
39:28going tempo here.
39:30And Nate Thomas
39:30was the seventh round draft pick
39:32for Dallas last year.
39:33So he's another
39:33offensive lineman
39:34that they invested in
39:35that they want to continue
39:36to see given opportunities
39:38and take advantage
39:39of their opportunities.
39:40Trying to get some rhythm
39:41going here on offense
39:42but hitting the backfield
39:43and dropped
39:43is Deuce Vaughn.
39:48Keandre Jackson.
39:52There's Tyler Guyton
39:53the first round pick
39:54last year.
39:55Yeah, this is coming
39:56off the backside.
39:57You can see the guy
39:58that's really working
39:58back here.
40:01They really just seem
40:02to have an understanding
40:03of the blocking assignments
40:04at the Cowboys.
40:05They know that if they
40:06cross the face
40:06of one of the linemen
40:07or tied in
40:08that they're going to take them
40:09and they bring somebody else
40:10on the outside
40:10that's going to be free.
40:12Really restricting
40:13the running lanes.
40:14Third and eight.
40:17Milton
40:17deep downfield
40:19has his man
40:21at the 20-yard line.
40:22And that's Jonathan Mingo.
40:26That is one
40:27heck of a job
40:29by Joe Milton
40:30and Jonathan Mingo.
40:33I want you guys
40:33to watch the footwork
40:34by Milton.
40:35He knows that he's
40:36going to take a hit.
40:37Slides to the right.
40:38Not the cha-cha slide
40:39but he slides over there.
40:40Drops a dime.
40:42That is the loft
40:43that I was referring to
40:44earlier in the game
40:45that he has to continue
40:46to prove
40:46that he has
40:47his repertoire.
40:48He threw that thing up
40:49let it drop down
40:50so that Mingo
40:51could find it.
40:52Fade away to it
40:53and then go ahead
40:54and get the catch.
40:5549 yards
40:56first down
40:57for the Cowboys
40:58now firing for the end zone
40:59looking for Mingo
41:00again
41:01but it goes incomplete.
41:04What a play
41:04for Jonathan Mingo
41:05as well.
41:06Talk about somebody
41:07he's coming up
41:07a little bit gimpy
41:08that's not good to see
41:09but talk about somebody
41:11who was traded
41:11last year.
41:13Dallas Cowboys
41:13gave up a fourth rounder
41:14for him
41:15pulled him out of Carolina
41:16brought him on the squad
41:17thought that he was
41:18going to be a contributor
41:19last year.
41:20Didn't have an impact
41:21that we all
41:22thought that he would
41:23so now
41:24coming into this year
41:25I had an opportunity
41:26to speak with him
41:26he feels a lot more comfortable
41:28he doesn't feel like
41:29his head is spinning
41:30like it was last year
41:30when he came in
41:31during the season
41:32he wants to have an impact
41:34on his offense
41:34and he'll have a chance
41:35on this depth chart.
41:36Bruce Vaughn outside
41:38there's a flag down
41:39as he picked up
41:40about five
41:41one thing
41:48a young offense
41:48you don't want to see
41:49you don't want to see
41:50a big positive play
41:51like we saw Bill
41:52and then have something
41:53negative happen
41:53like a penalty
41:54against you
41:56holding
41:59offense
42:01number 19
42:0110 yard penalty
42:03second down
42:04Ryan Flannoy
42:05number 19
42:06just deflating
42:09it's so deflating
42:10as an offense
42:11you have something
42:12major happen
42:12you're going to see
42:13Flannoy right here
42:13on your screen
42:14just grabs him
42:15on the outside
42:15he's literally
42:16grabbing his back
42:17you see him
42:17trying to replace
42:18his hands
42:19but he has to
42:19follow with your feet
42:20your feet move first
42:22and then your hands
42:22follow
42:23not the opposite
42:24trying to block
42:26Ruben Lowry
42:27so the Cowboys
42:29backed up
42:3010 yards
42:30out to Vaughn
42:37Deuce gets some
42:39of it back
42:40to the 25 yard line
42:41typically you're
42:45hitting a whole crowd
42:46saying Deuce
42:47you didn't hear it
42:49as much right there
42:49but it's good to see
42:504-2
42:50with the ball
42:51in his hand
42:52we already talked
42:53about numerous times
42:54the depth
42:54that that running
42:55back room
42:56has right now
42:57hope that he continues
42:59to get some opportunities
42:59but as we continue
43:01to talk about
43:01this receiver role
43:02it seems as if
43:04Tolbert is a sure thing
43:05Turpin is a sure thing
43:07CeeDee Lamb is a sure thing
43:08George Pickens
43:09is a sure thing
43:10that's your top 4
43:11now you have to figure out
43:12are you keeping 5 receivers
43:13or are you keeping 6
43:14are you keeping 5 receivers
43:17Jonathan Domingo
43:17is your guy
43:18if you're keeping 6
43:20somebody out here
43:21right now
43:21is looking to try
43:22to secure a spot
43:23there's a tight end
43:23John Stevens
43:24with his second catch
43:25of the night
43:26and that'll bring up
43:30a 4th down
43:31Cowboys will bring on
43:34their kicker
43:35Brandon Aubrey
43:35on 4th and 5
43:36for those that have never
43:38been in that situation
43:39it's almost unfathomable
43:40the amount of stress
43:42that you have
43:42as an athlete
43:43going out there
43:44trying to do your job
43:45to the best of your ability
43:46knowing that
43:47you along with
43:495 or 6 other guys
43:50are vying for
43:51one potential spot
43:52sounds like you've been
43:54there before
43:54just a handful of times
43:56Bill
43:56everything has to be right
44:03your blocking has to be
44:04right
44:04your alignment has to be
44:05right
44:05your snap and hold
44:06has to be right
44:07and Brandon Aubrey
44:08is almost always right
44:09yes he is
44:10from 36 yards
44:12money from Brandon Aubrey
44:14Cowboys trailing 18 to 10
44:16the big play
44:1749 yards
44:18is to Jonathan Mingo
44:19the Ford scoring drive
44:33Ford is the best in Texas
44:35Cowboys go 56 yards
44:37in 10 plays
44:38used up nearly 4 minutes
44:39of the clock
44:40Jonathan Mingo
44:42with a seedy lamb
44:43like 49 yard reception
44:46the big play
44:47on that possession
44:49for the Cowboys
44:50it resulted in the
44:52Brandon Aubrey
44:5236 yard field goal
44:54and now Brandon Aubrey
44:55kicks it deep
44:57taken at the
44:58three yard line
45:00great kick
45:00some directional kicking
45:04from Brandon Aubrey
45:05and the coverage
45:06out around the
45:0830 yard line
45:09make every day
45:13game day
45:13with the Dallas Cowboys
45:14scratch tickets
45:15from the Texas lottery
45:16play today
45:17for your chance
45:18to win
45:19up to $100,000
45:20season tickets
45:22and VIP experiences
45:25VIP that means
45:28they get to meet
45:29Bill Jones
45:30I'm talking about
45:3432 yard line
45:37that's where the
45:38Ravens take over
45:40on offense here
45:41again Israel
45:43will calm
45:43was sitting back
45:44there at the
45:44safety position
45:45it's not a position
45:45we've seen him in
45:46before with prior
45:47defensive coordinators
45:48but Matt
45:49Aberflues wants to
45:49see what he's made
45:50up back there
45:51machine all
45:52he's getting a lot
45:53of run
45:54tonight in the
45:55backfield for
45:56Baltimore and he
45:56picked up about
45:57four
45:57the reason why
46:01I continue to bring
46:02that up Bill
46:02is because there's
46:03there's a huge
46:03significance there
46:04can you play
46:05corner Israel
46:06yes can you play
46:08nickel for us
46:09yes can you play
46:10safety well I'll try
46:12throw me out there
46:12you have to have a
46:13willingness to go out
46:14there and try things
46:16and that's how coaches
46:17find out exactly what
46:18bandwidth that you have
46:19and how can they
46:20utilize you
46:20how versatile can you
46:21be and how much of an
46:22asset can you be to
46:23them on their roster
46:24Ali into the second
46:27level there gets the
46:28first down let's go down
46:29to the sideline and
46:29Kyle Yeomans
46:30yeah thanks guys
46:32joined now by Tyler
46:33Smith going into your
46:34fourth year it's already
46:36crazy to say you're
46:37going into year number
46:37four what's been
46:39different about this
46:40campaign compared to
46:41the other three that
46:42you've had here in
46:42Dallas I think
46:43obviously the most
46:44glaring difference is
46:45probably that you know
46:45the loss of the
46:46veteran leadership we
46:47had in the offseason
46:48and things like that
46:49but I think a big
46:50thing is just young
46:51guys stepping up I
46:52mean we've had guys
46:52who are playing all
46:53sorts of different
46:54positions who stepped
46:55up when guys have been
46:56down and I think the
46:57biggest thing is just
46:58that we built every day
46:59we built something every
46:59day and we've gotten
47:00better every single day
47:01you talk about these
47:02young guys they're
47:03getting a test
47:03tonight against a
47:04really good
47:04defensive front
47:05what have you seen
47:06from the guys that have
47:07played in this one I mean
47:08I've seen you know
47:09strength at the point of
47:10attack I think the
47:11biggest thing with this
47:12one is just continuing to
47:13extend drives I mean you
47:15know dominating third down
47:16dominating those
47:17situations making sure
47:18that we minimize the
47:19self-inflicted wounds with
47:20post snap penalties and
47:22like pre-snap penalties
47:23and things of that nature
47:23you know I think you know
47:25this game is really just
47:26getting started even
47:27though it's you know
47:27it's this third quarter
47:28everybody enjoys watching the
47:30film the all 22 of you and
47:32how you're able to take on
47:33specific defenders on a
47:35football field who do you
47:36enjoy watching now this deep
47:37into your career whether it's
47:38a teammate or anyone else in
47:39the league
47:40man there are a couple guys I
47:42really like watching you know
47:43Trent Williams game you know
47:45I love Chris Lindstrom's game
47:47he's a very dominant guard that
47:49I like to watch and there are
47:51many others bro I mean Quentin
47:52Miernes Quentin Nelson they're
47:54really I mean just a lot of
47:56great guys I even go back and
47:57I watch Zach's tape even though
47:58he's no longer with us I still
48:00watch Zach's tape because you
48:01know he taught me so much and
48:02you know a lot of those things
48:03that you know are detail wise
48:05that we harp on are on tape
48:07and you can just you know look
48:08at that tape and really you
48:09know draw inspiration from a
48:10lot of those guys earlier this
48:12week a documentary series deep
48:13blue revealed the wall 2.0
48:16talking about Tyron Smith
48:17Zach Martin and then of course
48:19Travis Frederick as well what
48:21would it mean for you guys the
48:22young group up front to be the
48:24wall 3.0 and to leave a legacy
48:27like those guys did I mean it's
48:28huge for us legacy is
48:29everything for us you know we're
48:30trying to win a championship
48:32that's our goal first and
48:33foremost but I think if we stack
48:35up every day and
