Wolves 0 Manchester City 4 - Nathan Judah and Jonny Drury analysis
Transcript
00:00Hello, I'm Nathan Judah, I'm here, not with Mr Liam Keane, we're here with Mr Johnny Drury today
00:13where it's finished, Wolverhampton 1-2 is nil, Manchester City 4, it's a strange one isn't it
00:18Johnny because I think before Manchester City scored their first goal, Wolves were probably
00:21having their best period of the game and the same issues, the same errors, they're not going to play
00:27Manchester City every week but they were found wanting and it's a worrying first game of the
00:32season isn't it? Yeah it was far too easy for City to score, I would say at least three of their goals
00:38were kind of preventable, mistakes at the back, losing the ball, giving them far too much space
00:45and that'll be probably the most frustrating part for Vitor Pereira, his side have had a few
00:49looks at goal, they've had a couple of chances, they fired out in the second half and they hit the
00:53side netted, forced a save from James Trafford but I think it was a kind of lesson in clinical
00:58finishing for Manchester City which you would expect because they're you know multiple time
01:02Premier League champions, maybe not the force they once were but it was far too easy for them to get
01:09in, it's not like they've had a mountain of chances where you know they've had a lot of possession
01:12which they would you would expect, it's not like they've had mountains of chances where where the goalkeeper
01:17Jozo Sars you know had to make eight or ten saves or four have gone in, they've been really clinical
01:21and they've punished Wolfe. And the frustrating thing is they've weathered that storm for the first
01:26ten minutes, they've got into the game, you know the crowd are behind them, it was incredible
01:31incredible reception for you know in memory of Diogo Giotto and Andre Silva as well beforehand,
01:36the crowd are into it, Matt Doherty puts a beautiful ball in for Marshall Benetzi who scores past
01:42James Trafford and he's a yard offside and when you look at that yes of course he's offside
01:45but he shouldn't be offside and when you're a professional footballer, when you're given the
01:49chance by Vito Pereira today, he went with Marshall Benetzi, he went with John Rigna Bellegarde,
01:52ahead of Fir Lopez, ahead of John Arias, he's got to stay onside there and that was two times
01:58on two different occasions where he's offside and you can't plan yourself, that's just absolute basics
02:03if that is a goal, they go 1-0 up there, it's a completely different game but it wasn't and then the
02:07rest is history. Exactly, it's fine margins, it's why Wolves will probably be you know
02:10I don't want to make a producer for relegation but they're going to be down towards the top of the
02:15league and City are going to be towards the top of the league because they're the fine margins where
02:18you know there was a I think a perfect example of it was the Erlen Haaland opener where City have
02:24kind of not really ripped Wolves open, I think David Wolfe has kind of lost his man, Lewis has cut it back
02:30and Haaland's tapped it in, second half Wolves kind of carved out the same kind of move,
02:35Minetsi's put it across the box and no one's there, it would have been an easy tap and that's the
02:40difference isn't it, like you say at the top of the conversation they're not going to play Man City
02:45week in week out, however those are fine margins in other games, in tight games against teams in and
02:51around it where you've got to kind of take your chances but you also can't be fine ones at the back
02:55who are making mistakes and you know too many of the goals are preventable and kind of when Wolves did
03:00have a bit of pressure and get on time they couldn't kind of force over the advantage. No they needed to
03:05score early in that second half didn't they after going 2-0 down and Stran Larsson puts it wide,
03:08those are the half chances they've got to go in there. I actually thought Keanu Huve had a decent
03:12game to be honest, I know he's got a lot of stick from the fans and look it's not his fault he's
03:15worked bloody hard during pre-season, beat up Borough says he wants him around this season, okay we don't
03:19think he's going to be a starter every week but for decent backup in a big game I thought he did himself
03:24plenty of favours today. People who didn't do themselves favours today were people who they relied on last
03:29season and the person who we've said has been continuously poor in pre-season, who we thought would step up
03:34today was the rock at the back from the January signing that's Emmanuel Agpadu but he was away
03:39with the fairies today, I mean out of those four goals I think he's he's made errors in three of
03:43those today and when you look at that core when you look at that spine or you look at someone like
03:47a man mountain that he was last season in Emmanuel Agpadu that's gravely worrying for me especially
03:53Sky Live, Manchester City this should be where you're up for the game and he just looked a shadow of himself.
03:58Yeah he was that kind of yard or two, too kind of off it wasn't he, the first goal you know
04:03either him or Totti had lost their man, the second goal was an awful pass in the middle of the field and
04:08he's kind of you know some people will blame Jad Gomez for losing the ball but it was a bit of a
04:12poor pass. Oh it was a terrible pass yeah. You know and then the third goal far too much space
04:18to have that right hand side for City to kind of work. Haaland you know he's pretty free in the box
04:25they've got to be getting tight, they've got to be aiming closely you know he's had a poor game today
04:28I think defensively Wolves haven't been fantastic do they just give away far too much space
04:34you know you can't make the mistakes I'll say it again you can't make mistakes against Man City
04:39No look he made four substitutions but they were already 3-0 down at that point I did think that
04:42Arias and Lopez and Rodrigo Gomez and Hugo Bueno as well down that left hand side
04:47they look better that looks a better side on the pitch and it'll be interesting whether he changes
04:51that drastically going to the Bournemouth game next Saturday I would say that all those four
04:55players have got a great chance of starting that game because you know you get a chance today to
04:59show what you can do I thought David Wolves was okay but only okay quite defensive I don't think he's
05:04going to get past people I don't think he's going to overlap I think Hugo Bueno can do that I think
05:08he'll be a third that David Wolves has been brought in and he showed that in those 20 minutes
05:12half an hour that he was on the pitch for but what is concerning Johnny and what is clearly lacking
05:16are signings and a bit of quality when you lose the likes of Matthias Cunha through against Ryan
05:20Agnori today as well who of course is gone you lose Saravia you lose the dependence of Nelson Samedo
05:26they are quite off it at this moment in time and they need at least three Vita Morrison needs at least
05:30three players but they've got to get three players they can't just get bodies they need quality in
05:33there yeah I would agree I would agree he'll take some positives from it today you know they had
05:38City kind of on the ropes at times but that's one thing I would say Wolves have got their spine of
05:43a half decent kind of side considering they've lost players but one they lack depth that is kind
05:50of clear I know the substitutes for towards the end came on and did okay but I would say they need
05:54three quality players and they probably need three starters yeah you know you need players coming
06:01in and challenging them at 11 and I said it to you multiple times in the game you know obviously I
06:06don't cover Wolves an awful lot it's been probably three or four games a season over the last few years
06:10Wolves have always had a bit of a talisman someone who can grab a game by the scruff and have a go
06:15you know match winner you know the man they were you know celebrating his life earlier earlier in the
06:21day was such a touching tribute going back that far people like Neves and you know in recent years
06:26Kunja as well yeah they haven't got that no they haven't got that you know and with two weeks left
06:30the window are they going to get it I don't think they probably will but they need a few quality
06:37bodies in there to help them you know well to prevent them from what happened last season because
06:42you know they may well go that way they've got there there are some positives they've they've signed
06:46some decent places with little glimpses of Lopez and the likes but yeah they did yeah definitely are
06:53uh look definitely not a time to overreact but at the same time the concerns are definitely there
06:59for Vita Ferreira and his Wolves staff it's finished Wolves nil at Manchester City 4 for
