In Switzerland, negotiations for a global treaty to combat plastic pollution have been extended an additional day as countries struggle to reach consensus at the United Nations. The talks, which began on August 5 and were originally scheduled to conclude Thursday, August 14 in Geneva, mark the sixth attempt to establish a legally binding agreement after two and a half years of unsuccessful negotiations. The European Union has labeled the proposal "not acceptable," with most participating nations and organizations similarly rejecting the terms.
