00:00In the third test at Port of Spain in April 1989, the cricketing world caught a glimpse
00:05of the raw pace and menace of a young Ian Bishop. Tall, strong and bursting with energy,
00:11in his early days, Ian Bishop charged in with a rhythm and velocity that left even-season
00:17bestman unsettled. Indian Naja Singh Sidhu, a bestman known for his bravery against fastballing,
00:24yet on this occasion Sidhu found himself grouping for answers.
00:28Ian Bishop's furious pace and precision saw him beat Sidhu's bat not once but three times,
00:34each delivery whistling passed off the stump and with the sense of barely contained danger.
00:39It was fastballing in its purest form, aggressive, relentless and unplayable,
00:44a young wick announcing himself to the cricketing stage in an unforgettable style.
00:49And even less experienced Ian Bishop, just two matches, but an average of 20 per wicket and
01:00his arrival on a test match scene rather ominous for international batsmen, bowling now to Sidhu.
01:09And beats him, Sidhu no one near behind that and the idea to get behind the ball but
01:14there must have been a foot inside it.
01:20Fair point there, Tony. His right foot, just look where it is. It's in line with about middle and
01:24leg stump and that ball is two feet outside the off stump. No wonder he never got anywhere near it.
01:29Ian Bishop, two to Sidhu. Again, he beats him just outside the off stump. That's a perfect line.
01:39Whether to play, whether to leave it.
01:43Again, he got it a little bit closer to this one, but not much. And he moved after the ball had passed him.
01:49And that's just going down the next side, but he is the fastest of these bowlers, without doubt, Ian Bishop.
02:07Puts a lot into it at the last moment and he made Sidhu really hurry then and get there too late.
02:13Ian Bishop.
02:24Oh, that's a wonderful stop by Jeff Dujon.
02:28Brilliant stop. Not only covering the ground to the left but also having to get down so low.
02:35And the fact that he's a top-class squash player means he's got great agility as Jeff Dujon and just
02:40have a look at that. Must have made about five yards to his left.
02:46This brief but electrifying spell was a statement of intent from Ian Bishop. A young paceman with the
02:52tools to trouble the pest. His pace pounced in unwavering accuracy, made every delivery a question
02:59Sidhu struggled to answer. Moments like these not only defied Bishop's early career, but also reminded
03:06fans of the sheer thrill of watching a fastballer in full flight, testing both the skill and the
03:12nerve of the best man. If you liked this video, please comment, share and subscribe. Thank you very much.
