00:00Mohamed Vaseem's cricket story is one of raw talent, early promise, and a brief but
00:05memorable journey in international cricket. His one of the finest innings came against
00:10the mighty West Indies at Bridgetown in May 2000. On a tough pitch and against a fierce
00:16Caribbean balling attack, Mohamed Vaseem displayed remarkable patience and control.
00:22He crafted a brilliant 82 runs from 164 balls, spanning more than four hours at the crease.
00:28His eight boundaries were pure class, all played with a straight bat and flawless timing.
00:33At time his defensive approach made it look like he had no flashy strokes. But once he
00:39got his rhythm, he became a difficult man to dismiss. That knock was a true example of determination
00:46and skill against world class fastballing. So let's watch his innings.
00:58He took some of the piece off the ball-wise, so it should not get to the rooks.
01:03Three runs for Mohamed Vaseem.
01:08That's the shot we're trying to encourage the batsmen to play. The one that Michael Holland spoke about.
01:15Not a half volley and not a good piece of fielding either.
01:19And the air but also in the gap.
01:28Yeah.
01:32Good shot. Stood up straight and punched it through mid-on like a rocket.
01:37Broke as well. This was beautifully played off the back foot and really hammered it.
01:41It's an extremely difficult shot to execute. Especially a thirdly Ambrose.
01:47He tends to get a bit of extra bounce every now and then. But Mohamed Vaseem on his back foot.
01:58Good shot. Nicely timed. Four.
02:00Ball being lofted through that region. A bit full in length again Ryan King.
02:09No danger at all in playing that shot. One man in front of square on the inside and he's purely straight.
02:21That's a good shot. Shut the face a little bit. A couple.
02:30Another couple of runs earned by the batsmen.
02:43Missed it. Thought he had it covered.
02:49And it got underneath him.
02:50Beautiful time though. Again that's that bottom arm.
03:05He's found the gap in the air for just a little bit but exquisitely timed again.
03:10Good flick off the pads again. Bottom hand. Roll of the wrist. And it's gone.
03:24Pakistan Rick comes to continue.
03:29That's since 50. Mohamed Wazim.
03:31Very good innings. An important one for the scene. Mohamed Wazim. Making a comeback here.
03:44Which I wait. And the other they're indicating to him to stay on there.
03:51Just train a bit on to the stumps there for the Ambrose.
03:54Coming back for the second run on Wazim's arm. Accurate throw but not strong enough to prevent those.
04:06Single down two.
04:07Put it off. He's got an unfortunate bounce. And they'll get two because
04:11he couldn't get it back into his hands. And his fast-bombing mate
04:16knows that he hasn't actually got Colin Bland down at fine length.
04:18If anybody would understand it, it would be Ambrose.
04:24Problem was a ball bounced away from him. He'd just gone straight up and back into his hand.
04:29And then he had another. That's not the electric ball, didn't it?
04:31Don't stay in your hands.
04:33Bad.
04:36Yeah. And again, just short and through the hand for four.
04:42A boundary is resolved.
04:43A fieldman having to make that awful decision. Do I dive forward and perhaps lose a two for two?
04:52It's made in a split second. Just pitched in front of him. And of course then.
04:59In the air. And, well, 200 up courtesy of another poor piece of fielding.
05:08That is as poor as you see at this level.
05:10That's a good point.
05:13Once again, there was a case for trying to get something behind it.
05:17Didn't quite carry. Once again, it's amazing how often that's happened.
05:20But really, you've got to get down at a long barrier or try.
05:23Nicklin shot.
05:27That's gone.
05:29Broken the partnership.
05:31Finally, Rion King with that in-swinger.
05:36Quick delivery from Rion King.
05:37Mohamad Vaseem missing the line completely.
05:40And once again, there you see the face at the back closed in that instant.
05:46And that is pretty blunt.
05:48Gone after making a wonderful 82 and Pakistan lose their first wicket.
05:52Mohamad Vaseem first burst onto the scene as a 19-year-old when he made a sensational debut
05:58century against New Zealand. A moment that instantly made headlines across Pakistan.
06:05With a calm temperament and a textbook batting style, Mohamad Vaseem looked every bit the future
06:11of Pakistan's batting lineup. Mohamad Vaseem born on August 8, 1978. He hailed from Punjab, Pakistan
06:19and his early years promised a long international career. He represented Pakistan in 18 test matches
06:26and 25 one day international between 1996 and 2000. However, after his early success,
06:33consistency became an issue. A series of low scores meant he could not cement his spot in the national
06:39side. Following a tough series against Sri Lanka in 2000, the selector decided to move on and ending
06:46that what could have been a remarkable career. Yet Mohamad Vaseem's love for the game did not fade. Years
06:52later, in that surprising twist, he made a return to competitive cricket but not for Pakistan.
06:59This is the time where he played for Netherlands. Having settled in the country and acquired
07:04Dutch nationality, he played a 50-over match against Scotland in July 2014. It was a rare comeback that
07:11showed his undying passion for cricket. Mohamad Vaseem's story reminds us that talent alone does not
07:17guarantee a long career. It's about timing, opportunity and consistency. Still, his stylish
07:24W100 and his gritty 82 runs at Priestown remain cherished moments for those who witness his elegant
07:31batting. If you like this video, please comment, share and subscribe. Thank you very much.
