00:00Oh my goodness, no. People that aren't wealthy being outside. That's terrible.
00:06I look at it as anti-Christian. I remember the passage of,
00:11as you have done unto the least of these, you have done unto me.
00:15And the idea that he's targeting us and persecuting us feels wrong to me.
00:25Well, then I'm going to miss it. I'm going to miss, you know, the neighbor, the neighbors.
00:41I haven't known what's next for so long that is part of normal life at this point.
00:45I don't even know how to explain that. That is, you try and make people feel stressed out.
00:50And when that's all they know, what is, what are you trying to prove here?
00:55That you're a bully? That we're going, that we created this situation
00:59and now we're telling you that you can't be in the situation we created?
01:02So we felt if this, we knew this site would be one of the key sites that the federal government would close.
01:17So it was in our judgment that it was better for us to do it using the protocols that we rely upon in the deputy mayor's office.
01:26We are working with the federal government closely.
01:29They are not expecting us to, after they indicate that they're going to close the site,
01:36to jump in front of them and close the site ourselves.
01:39We work with them. We had a big meeting at the U.S. Park Service headquarters last night.
01:44There's another one today at 5 p.m.
01:47And from that meeting, we will learn more about which sites they're going to close starting at 6 p.m. tonight.
01:54We think there are about 62 encampments, federal and district included.
01:59And anywhere from the numbers I saw this week were from anywhere from 97 to 106 people living in those encampments.
02:06So what we've been doing is to make sure that we have enough shelter beds to meet the demand.
02:12So we have enough shelter beds and we can expand on demand to make sure that anyone who wants a shelter bed can come in.
02:21You know, we are aware of the fact that this problem will not be permanently solved until you find places for people to live that they are comfortable and they can afford.
02:35When people come back, then we will address that situation the same way we did before they left,
02:41and that is try to connect them to the range of homeless services that we have.
