00:00Hello everybody! Welcome to part one of repotting my poinsettia, which I overwatered accidentally.
00:18So I'm not an expert or anything. I've been studying on YouTube what to do in this scenario.
00:23I'm just going to repot the plant, kind of trim the roots if there's any root rot, and hopefully that'll be okay.
00:29It's not exactly in the horrible condition, but it has a lot of leaves that turn yellow and fell off.
00:35So we're going to make it a happier plant, give it a better pot with a better drainage system and some nice soil, and see what happens.
00:43Okay? So, first thing we're going to do, I want to just show you the plant.
00:48It's, like I said, it's not in the worst condition, but it is a little droopy.
00:52And I did overwater it before I went to the Poconos for the July 4th weekend.
00:58These are very finicky, it turns out. I didn't realize, but can't be too hot, can't be too cold, and definitely cannot overwater these things because they will not do well after that.
01:08So, I learned all this through YouTube. Thank you, YouTube.
01:12So, with that in mind, I want to take care of it in a different way from now on.
01:16So, let's see what happens. So, I have some soil, I have a spade, I have this water measuring stick I'm going to use to show the roots out.
01:29And, let me get started.
01:41Welcome back, part two. So, here I have a little box with my spade and whatnot in it, so I don't get dirt all over the place.
01:50Probably won't work that well.
01:52When you do this, you know, take the proper area and cover it and do lots of nice things.
01:57I don't have that much space here in my apartment, so we'll see what happens here.
02:01Okay? So, like I said, I have a new pot here, which has drainage.
02:08So, that would be better than this pot, which has no drainage.
02:11And that's why the soil got overwatered and saturated with the roots and having issues because I didn't overwater it that much, really.
02:20I didn't, but it got unhappy.
02:22So, here we go. We're going to take this out first.
02:26And then we're going to take it out of the plastic.
02:31Oh, shit.
02:34And then we're going to squeeze the sides to get the dirt kind of separated a little bit.
02:47This pot is pretty dry with the soil, so it should lift out fairly easily, I would think.
02:57Yep, here it goes.
02:59Here it goes.
03:00So, here we go.
03:03Actually, the roots don't look that bad, which is what I thought might be a possibility.
03:13So, what I'm just going to do is, I'm just going to repot this at a different angle so that it's not leaning over looking at the sun as it was trying to do before.
03:23Let me see if I can do this without a splinter every way.
03:28I should have prepared a better workspace.
03:29We're going to learn, right?
03:31All right.
03:32So, I have some soil here.
03:33Because my spade, you know, when you buy tools, right, keep these things in mind.
03:45The spade is too flat, you see?
03:46In the top part.
03:47So, it's not going to scoop the soil so well.
03:52So, I'm using this old yogurt container.
03:53Works all right.
03:54So, I'm going to fill up a certain amount like this.
03:59Oops.
04:00That should be good.
04:01Break it up a little bit.
04:06I'm going to put it down.
04:07So, it's not going to get this.
04:08I don't think it's too much stuff.
04:09I'm going to put it down.
04:10Let's see how we can get this.
04:11I'm going to put it down, I'm using too much stuff.
04:13I'm going to break it up a little bit.
04:20I'm just trying to spread it out a little bit.
04:27I'm going to put that down.
04:30Let's see if we can get this.
04:33I don't know if it's too much.
04:38I'm going to get it at the right angle because it was moving over a little bit too much before.
05:01Let's see in the part two.
05:04Here we go, part three.
05:06Now I've separated the plant from its old pot.
05:09Got rid of some of the old dirt.
05:11The roots are looking surprisingly good.
05:13So I'm just going to cover it back up with more soil.
05:19That's a root that's popping out at a funny angle.
05:25I might have to do something about that.
05:36Oops.
05:38Oops.
05:39Oops.
05:41Oops.
05:42Oops.
05:46Oops.
05:47I don't think I put too much dirt underneath, so in that situation, I'm going to have to
06:14take it out and slip it into the dirt and put it back in on the top.
06:44I don't think I'm going to have to take it out.
06:51I'm going to have to take it out.
06:56I'm going to have to take it out.
07:02I'm going to have to take it out.
07:22I'm going to have to take it out.
07:38I'm going to have to take it out.
07:56I put too much dirt in.
08:11I've got to do something about it.
08:21I'm going to have to take it out.
10:41Okay, that's a better position.
11:02It's got its dirt, so now I'm going to give it some water and then give it a little bit
11:06more dirt.
11:07Let's pause.
11:08Okay, we're back to part four.
11:12We've got the pot planted, and now we're going to put some water in there.
11:16I'm going to hope that the positioning holds up a little well.
11:22Okay, so that looks pretty good.
11:31Okay, so that looks pretty good.
11:43So I'm going to put it back in the sun, and then clean up as big as, and call it a day.
11:53Okay.
11:54I recommend you get one of these water meter things.
12:02They're really, really good.
12:04I'm going to put it back to the sunshine, you know.
12:12Okay.
12:13Okay.
12:15Okay.
12:17I'm going to put it back to the sunshine.
12:22Okay.
