Siblings celebrate results day success as Sunderland College sees 95% of students get 1st choice university places

Students at Sunderland College have been get their Level 3 qualifications results.

00:30I felt like really nervous

00:32Did you sleep last night?

00:34No, not really, like at all

00:36And when you opened the envelope, what did you get and how did you feel?

00:38I got three ears

00:40and I'm really happy with it

00:42Yeah, half of it

00:44And what's your plans now?

00:46I'm going to Leeds Beckett University to study speech and language now with me

00:48And Harrison, how did you feel coming down this morning?

00:50I wasn't too nervous

00:52I was a little bit nervous

00:54Yeah

00:55And what did you get?

00:56I got an AB distinction

00:58And what's your plan now?

01:00I'm going to study microbiology at Leeds

01:02I understand you had two siblings, two of a quadruple, is that right?

01:05Yeah

01:06And you're both going to Leeds?

01:07Yeah

01:08So we're looking now for each other there?

01:09Yeah, definitely

01:13Okay then Tony, A Level and Level 3 qualification results day to day

01:16Was there lots of happy faces today?

01:18Oh yeah, absolutely

01:19I mean there's always lots of happy faces across Level 3 results days

01:23And there are always students as well that don't necessarily get what they want to get

01:28But equally they've been on a tremendous journey

01:31I think in overall this year our Level 3 results for A Levels, T Levels and BTECs were really well

01:38We did great again as usual

01:41Overall our T Levels particularly 94% pass rate across our T Levels

01:48And all T Levels achieved above the national rate this year which is brilliant

01:53BTECs 98% overall pass rates and an increase in our A Star to B grades for A Levels students

02:00Particularly again this year in the arts subjects around film, media, English, literature, sociology etc

02:07So they've done exceptionally well across all areas of the results

02:11Have a lot of the kids got the chance to go and do their first choices

02:14Whether it's universities, apprenticeships, a lot of the kids got what they need?

02:17Yeah, absolutely

02:18We've got high figures again this year for first choice

02:21But actually the highest probably that we've ever had with 95% achieving their first choice

02:26As of 8 o'clock this morning so I'm sure that will go up throughout the day

02:29So overall pleased with the results?

02:31Yeah absolutely pleased

02:32And you know as always it's a testament to the staff on how hard they work to support students

02:37But equally the great students that we have at Sunderland College every year

02:44Yeah

02:48You got what you need?

02:49Uh huh

02:50Were you expecting that?

02:51No not at all

02:52What did you get?

02:53Um I got a merit

02:54You weren't expecting that now does that mean you go to university now?

02:57I think so yeah

03:04Really nervous yeah

03:05And what course are you doing and what did you get?

03:08Um I've done T level childcare and education and I've got a C in my first year and I've got a merit in my final year

03:16Were you expecting that when you came in this morning?

03:18No not at all

03:19So pretty shocked yeah?

03:21Yeah really shocked yeah

03:22And does that now mean you've got your place at uni?

03:24Yeah it does yeah

03:25So what are you going to go and do?

03:26I do psychology and counselling at Sunderland

03:28And you're going out to celebrate a day?

03:30Um not a day no because I'm at work in the morning so I think maybe when I'm in the next year I'll go out with this week
