00:00I am deeply troubled by the deep and entrenched inequalities that we see across our society in terms of the regional disparities but also differences between students, so between less well off students and their better off peers.
00:12It's why where it comes to the school system later on this year we'll be tackling this around the challenges that we see.
00:18I am worried that particularly where it comes to white working class kids in our country, they don't get the outcomes in educational terms that they deserve.
00:26When you've got fewer than 20% of white working class kids getting a strong pass in English and maths and I do think we need to look seriously about taking action but we know that lots of these problems actually open up quite early on and a lot of the attainment gap that we see has already started to open up before the age of five and it's why investment in the early years and in family support has been a big priority for this Labour government.
