James Gunn chats with THR at the 'Peacemaker' season two premiere and talks about how it sets up his larger vision for the DC Universe. Plus, he reveals that he's already been working on the 'Superman' saga and hopes to begin production soon. Gunn also provides an update on the Amanda Waller series and says he can't wait to see Viola Davis in her Waller outfits.

00:00How is this season going to set up your larger vision for the DCU?

00:04Well, it's a big part.

00:05I mean, definitely Superman leads directly into Peacemaker.

00:09It should be noted that this is for adults, not for children.

00:14But Superman leads into this show,

00:15and then we have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU

00:20in this season of Peacemaker.

00:22It's incredibly important.

00:23Lots of guest stars coming up,

00:25lots of characters that are going to show up

00:27that we've already met in Superman.

00:29And I don't think there's anything I've ever done

00:32that I love more than this season of Peacemaker.

00:34So I'm so excited for people to see it.

00:37Well, I know that John mentioned that he would love to see

00:39a Peacemaker-Batman crossover.

00:42Have you guys had any of those sort of conversations?

00:45Nope.

00:48Are there any more DCU projects that you are hoping to,

00:52or maybe in the back of your mind,

00:53thinking of writing or directing or future-wise?

00:55Oh, no, I've already finished the treatment

00:57for the next story in what I'll call the Superman saga.

01:02The treatment's done,

01:03which means a very, very worked-out treatment,

01:05and I'm working on that,

01:07and hopefully going into production on that,

01:09not too far away from today.

01:12As you were rebooting the DCU,

01:14why was this one project that you were like,

01:16we're keeping this, we're keeping this status quo?

01:19In one way, it's because I had to deal with HBO Max

01:22to make the show, but also this is my family.

01:25This is a group of people I like more than any other,

01:28and I would really, really be sad

01:31if I couldn't keep working with them.

01:33Very quickly, can you tell us the status

01:34of the Waller series right now?

01:36We're working on it, but, you know,

01:38some things have moved really fastly,

01:40and some things not so fast,

01:41and that's been a thing that hasn't moved so fast.

01:43But I can't wait to see Viola get her Waller outfits on

01:47with her shitty floral dresses

01:49and do something special.
