00:01:14to their homes and to be with their families and uh it's tough but you know the the objective is to
00:01:20get this super bowl and uh it'll all it'll all pay off one day i thought that was going to be an
00:01:28interception myself can it be a penalty i don't know flag game man that's a bad call tommy or thomas
00:01:34thought he had a pick and he was about ready to go 75 but but uh justin could tell you tommy or thomas
00:01:40has every right to the football defense number 37 no that's a terrible call terrible call he has every
00:01:46right to the football wide receiver so anyway go ahead ben well i was i was gonna say we'll take a look
00:01:54at this replay here i think you're i mean i think you're 100 correct there pete not only we get
00:02:00more pressure by gabe murphy getting another quarterback hit but he's got every right to that
00:02:06foot he actually undercut it and almost had the interception but jj i was gonna say this about the
00:02:10coaching thing the other thing that you don't want to know is how the coaches talk about the players when the
00:02:15players leave the building you just like let's just leave it at that like you don't really want to
00:02:22know hopefully they don't say too many bad things about me man hopefully hopefully i i get a a good
00:02:28page you know i got a good resume so hopefully you know they they don't they don't strike me up too much
00:02:35talk about keenan mccardell in that matter is your position coach how important has he been to your
00:02:40development a a big big huge blessing man uh to you know have somebody in the room that you know
00:02:47played the game that played the game for 17 years uh you know he he knows how you're feeling how your
00:02:52body is feeling how you're feeling mentally uh and he's out there and he has that credit you know he's
00:02:57credible so to to you know listen to what he has to say release point during the route to get open at
00:03:03the top of the route you know all of those things help us tremendously you know you know that was one
00:03:08of my big things that i wanted to uh to to bring back when coach ko had uh had joined our team i wanted
00:03:16to keep our receiver coach and to keep that uh in our building so he's definitely been a huge huge help
00:03:23you um you see some justin jefferson highlights here on the simulcast on fox 9. i mean there are
00:03:27a lot of them oh what's y'all showing them man what's y'all showing them well no they're showing
00:03:31them from last year but i'm never going to forget your first touchdown against tennessee nobody was
00:03:35in the building no one the car was the safety you put him on a bad angle and you got him from like 71
00:03:42handoff up the middle uh the back goes grinding for about a yard but but let me bring this up
00:03:47because you you watch all the training camp practices you're working with the quarterbacks and
00:03:51the receivers you're on the side because of the hammy all right now in fairness there have been
00:03:56some tough times for the passing game in training camp practices the running game's been really good
00:04:02but when you talk to defensive players byron murphy i mean when you talk to some defensive players
00:04:07i mean i'm like you have to acknowledge 18's not out there and by the way you guys kind of know the
00:04:13plays a little bit too you know what i mean yeah i mean it's definitely different you know especially
00:04:18you know when i'm out there versus when i'm not out there but you know we have guys in that room to
00:04:24have that same that same vibe and you know to to get open to create that separation uh and just like
00:04:30you said having having that coaching hat and that whistle on for these you know past two weeks for
00:04:36training camp uh i mean it's kind of been a blessing to kind of coach coach the guys up and uh to see it
00:04:43from you know the sidelines other than being out there on that field so uh it's a blessing in disguise and
00:04:49uh i'm just happy to help and to get these guys to where they need to go and that's what and it's
00:04:54interesting you say that justin third down for the texans uh because that's kind of what j.j
00:04:58mccarthy told us yesterday in the production meeting i'll get to that momentarily play clock down to
00:05:04four slow this is dripping out he runs back into the shotgun three receivers right no who
00:05:09would come on j.j's on the mic justin's on the no no throws it out of bounds
00:05:14that's mckay blackman with excellent coverage but i asked him hey you know what's it like in these
00:05:19practices without justin and he said well obviously it would be preferred to have him
00:05:25but i'm grateful because i've been given the opportunity to learn how to handle adversity
00:05:30very early in the run and i thought that was really mature of j.j mccarthy for sure you know
00:05:36and i kind of you know talk to him every single day and uh just try to pick his brain mentally uh see
00:05:42how his body is doing physically and uh you know it's it's a tough it's a tough offense you know we
00:05:47asked we asked a lot from him and uh to be a quarterback in this league and uh to have the
00:05:53all the pressure on him i feel like he's doing a phenomenal job with it all right bear bear hits

00:09:13been putting in that practice and also you know they're going up against a top defensive line you
00:09:19know in this league so to to you know face that every single day and to to get better uh it's going
00:09:25to be it's going to be tremendous for us hey j.j i i i want to preface this that i'm not i'm not saying
00:09:32that i want to see fights or violence but but j.j mccarthy was talking about how his hockey
00:09:41instincts sort of took over the other day in practice when there was a little scuffle with
00:09:45aaron jones yeah and all this stuff and he's like i i just have the hockey player mentality go get it go get
00:09:50it come on jj rip in deep right jay sean uh jay sean huh yeah that was jay sean and they couldn't
00:10:02bring it in uh uh incomplete okay okay you want to talk to the people who you got to your people
00:10:07i said what i was gonna say what's up oh sean and three bernard they made this for me

00:11:14instincts took over i just kind of he's like a moth to the flame now if this actually happened in a
00:11:19regular season game like would you just want to see him scrap with somebody or would you run in there
00:11:25no quarterback you're too valuable hey i'm definitely i'm definitely on the too valuable part but i do like
00:11:33a little scrappiness i do like that fire in their eyes i love that you know i always
00:11:39always have a story from when joe burrow that that year before we went to the national championship
00:11:44you know we we had a good practice against our defense that year and we had a scuffle and he was
00:11:50the main one in that scuffle so hey i'm not i'm not i like it i like it i'm not i'm not shy from it at all
00:11:58but we do have to protect them we have to make sure that you know he's in that in that in that huddle
00:12:04you know every single play not all here on the sideline in a quarterback for houston florida rookie
00:12:10six rounder graham mertz thirteen ten minnesota six and a half minutes to go in the third quarter
00:12:16mertz throws left and it's caught it's a first down for the houston texans back to who
00:12:23i mean it's not the wisest thing in the world if you're going to scrap throwing punches at people
00:12:28with helmets yeah you know what i mean you know what i mean not at all and then on top of that you
00:12:32know we got a new fight rule at practice so if we fight we get kicked out of practice and we definitely
00:12:37don't talk about starting quarterback out at practice hey uh with that trivia question which
00:12:42you nailed by the way well done the other three were hall of famer randy moss and i mean he's h-o-f
00:12:50man and i know you love randy and um and and and you know i mean when you're when you're growing
00:12:54up playing high school football in louisiana then at louisiana state university i'm not going to say
00:12:59you modeled your game after randy but he meant a lot to you didn't he oh for sure randy is is that guy
00:13:05you know i definitely grew up watching randy been a fan of randy love the explosive plays love the
00:13:11he got moss you know i love all of those stuff and i was a huge fan of that and uh that definitely was
00:13:18you know somebody that i watched film on tremendously so uh i'm definitely grateful to you know be drafted
00:13:24to minnesota to where you know i have chris carter on the other hand that that comes into the building
00:13:29that you know talk to us and uh come watch practice sometimes so uh it's a it's a blessing for sure
00:13:36pass left and mechie the third caught it at the 38 for a gain of four pete now justin up
00:13:44it's more of a favor than a question but could you because we have a camera that's following you
00:13:48what are you going to ask him for some money no i want him to pick out who's got other than himself
00:13:53the best playing on the sideline who looks the best right now because he got some guys without the
00:14:00pads on and everything else time to change wardrobe change who's looking good down there oh
00:14:07i mean honestly nobody got the best the best jury on like like i got you know what i'm saying
00:14:13this this is the top tier right here this is this is the best you're gonna get but let me see hold on
00:14:18oh we got a virtual measurement hold on wait a minute let me see yeah we got the virtual measurement
00:14:23this right here this is the guy right here he got the jury on who is it you know what i'm saying he
00:14:27been he been he been you know what i'm saying oh look at jordan so you know he got the baguettes
00:14:37hey um this virtual measurement is new uh and it's going to take place in the regular season by the
00:14:44way so this is not just a preseason experiment they tested it for a couple of years
00:14:48six cameras are in every stadium oh wow the ball is spotted and then the cameras do something called
00:14:54triangulate and they triangulate the ball and then the measurement is revealed so the chain
00:15:00there's no more chains well no the chains are on the sideline but they're not going to come out
00:15:05and um and it takes about it takes about you know 20 to 30 seconds for them to figure this thing out
00:15:11technology man so we we see the virtual there it is look up at the screen justin we got it on tv oh wow
00:15:16missed it by 10 inches that is actually crazy well it's fantastic and it's technologically sound but
00:15:23I mean it's all fun and games until the spots are all right you know right and hopefully during the
00:15:30regular season it will speed it up a little bit that took quite it took quite a bit of time yeah
00:15:34I agree virtual measurement all right straight eye behind Graham Mertz rookie from florida played 16 for
00:15:44the Gators 34 for the Wisconsin Badgers handoff up the middle and it goes for a first down for the
00:15:51Houston Texans well Justin you go over you talked about George you show Jordan Addison looking good how
00:16:00has he been this training camp obviously you've been around him a long time he's he's without you in
00:16:07there every single down he's the number one how's he progressing what kind of camp has he had yes he
00:16:12has he's been having a great camp honestly and uh you know just to be on the sideline to coach him up
00:16:18uh to you know watch his releases to watch his his routes to watch his footwork you know it's it's all
00:16:25you know something that's I'm blessed to kind of you know teach him through and uh he he's been a sponge
00:16:31you know he's been he's been trying to grasp all the information that I'm giving him uh he's trying
00:16:36to learn he's trying to get better uh but you know I'm never I'm never the one that's you know watching
00:16:42him I'm always the one in the game at the same time as him so uh to have this opportunity to coach him
00:16:48up and uh to get him where he needs to be uh and then he missed the first three he's going to miss
00:16:53the first three games so uh that's definitely going to be tough you know without him I mean
00:16:58Jordan had 20 touchdowns his first two seasons one of that one of them was rushing
00:17:04and uh tough break for him those first three games no doubt but uh we're going to have you back by
00:17:08that time man so that's going to be good it's going to be good for sure and it's also a learning
00:17:13lesson for him you know him being young uh him not you know really understanding how to you know move
00:17:18around a little bit sometimes so just trying to give him all the information that he can so he can
00:17:23move better and uh this won't happen again Gerard Jordan with the carry for the Texans uh Justin to the
00:17:29other side of the ball from what you've seen or what you know uh Isaiah Rogers who won a Super Bowl
00:17:35with the Eagles last year the cornerback uh what are you thinking about him I know he's fast oh he's
00:17:40fast fast that's definitely one of his traits that he has but I've kind of been picking his brain a
00:17:46little bit you know just kind of asking him the different coverages asking him how he likes you know
00:17:51our defense versus uh the uh Philly defense and uh how is it different how is it better you know so
00:17:57there we go good play so it's it's it's it's been a learning it's been a learning stage for him but
00:18:03I'm excited to see what he has you know especially with the group of guys that we have on our defense
00:18:09well Jets what have you seen just from a difference in that in that defensive back room from last year
00:18:15to this year so many new faces but it sounds like a new attitude as well hey it's it's crazy in there
00:18:21I ain't gonna lie they have so so much talent so many different guys uh all around the field that can
00:18:27play so many different positions it's been tough in training camp I'm not gonna lie I've been watching from
00:18:33from afar and it's been tough it's been tough but but it's going to help us a lot during the season
00:18:40because we're not going to see the same type of coverages uh that we're seeing uh with our defense
00:18:45line drive on Silas Bolden Silas wrangled by the Texans at the 17 more with the best
00:18:55Justin Jefferson from the sideline when we return to U.S. Bank Stadium on the Vikings Entertainment Network
00:19:01the U.S. Bank Stadium and the Vikings Entertainment Network take a peek at some of these stats through
00:19:10the first half what we're looking like man and about the first 12 minutes of the third quarter well
00:19:16we got 141 passing yards wow 72 on the ground uh four of eight on third down and we've held the ball
00:19:24about three more minutes than them I mean that sounds good enough to eat oh for sure 50 percent on third
00:19:30down we'll take it we got to get a little better but we'll take it Xavier Ryan wow he Xavier Scott is big and
00:19:38thick in the upper body you know and he's in his first full year from Maine which isn't exactly a
00:19:43bastion of like big time football and he was a receiver oh right uh I mean he has good wiggle to
00:19:49him doesn't he oh for sure you can definitely tell he was a receiver before but him him putting on this
00:19:56muscle him putting on a little bit of weight and he has that speed so I think it was a great switch
00:20:02for him and this is a big opportunity for him right here all right Xavier Scott six runs forty one yards
00:20:08Brett Rippon is that quarterback and it's second and five from the twenty five deep in the third quarter
00:20:16Scott tries to get the edge couldn't get it so it's going to be no gain third down hey uh weird subject
00:20:25here but you know simply because we felt bad for him uh did you get a chance to like fist bump
00:20:30Rondell Moore or say god bless or whatever of course I definitely was right there uh when they
00:20:35caught him off talk to him a little bit in the locker room uh in moments like this is you know
00:20:42difficult of course you know him being in my room uh you know training with him talking with him coaching
00:20:47him and uh you know it's definitely it sucks to see anyone come out here and get hurt especially on
00:20:54their first opportunity uh of the season so that's that's definitely going to be a
00:20:59a tough loss for us but uh you know we're going to be playing for him we're going to be having his
00:21:05back the whole entire way uh for him to get right back on his feet and Justin we were just talking
00:21:12about Xavier Scott but there's been another addition to that running back room in Jordan Mason yes and
00:21:18you know he stands there he looks every bit as big as CJ and he's a he's a big man and it's got to be
00:21:24exciting to know maybe that play action game is going to be able to take off a little bit more
00:21:28because of a guy like Jordan Mason hey he's he's a freak the his body type his ability to stay up and
00:21:36have that balance uh it's kind of crazy uh but you know to see the type of season that he had last year
00:21:43the season that he had last year uh with san francisco come on j2

00:27:14it's infectious everywhere i think from the top to bottom and from special teams to offense to defense
00:27:19we just want to build off of everything we did last year i think you know you look at a lot of those
00:27:22things like that we did very well but at times we need to do more and i feel like that's the whole
00:27:26off-season thing that i kind of took on me as soon as the season ended last year so it fueled me in
00:27:30workouts it fueled me to just take care of my body when i'm doing like little stretches so
00:27:33um in practice and stuff like that now we're just balling and literally pushing it to that next
00:27:37level of getting a little bit more out of it uh out of every single rep and out every person it's
00:27:41going to be very very good for us for sure yeah feels like this defense is flying around this training
00:27:45camp how have you seen that translate to the pre-season game today yeah man these dudes are
00:27:49flying i mean if you look at it right now i mean if the guy's not down on the ground our guys are
00:27:53literally flying in trying to just make sure that they secure the tackle trying to create a big play
00:27:57or something like that because this is what we're used to in practice i mean i tell guys always
00:28:00visual visualizing that these plays you're going to make in game the same way you do in practice so
00:28:04it's just a simple thing of just keeping the same things basic and uh watching these boys fly around
00:28:08make plays all right well can't wait to see you walk moving around flying around making plays real

00:29:48so the vikings have turned over the texans back to bernard guys um i had no idea how good his run
00:29:54defense was yeah i think that's probably the most underappreciated part uh of his game he's he's
00:30:00probably the most consistent pass rusher that we have been and yeah meaning that he could probably go
00:30:05into any scheme four-man front you know five you know five two doesn't matter he's going to get to
00:30:10the quarterback but i'll tell you what that guy has a feel a feel for holding the edge and playing
00:30:16the run that very few guys have well and i think part of it too was you know it seemed like a little
00:30:22bit of a a one-for-one swap we got rid of daniel hunter he goes to houston we get granard and so it's
00:30:28like we we knew that daniel was elite against stopping the run we're like oh are we how much better did we get
00:30:34you know i think there was some some uh realistic question marks about how he was going to produce
00:30:40versus what we saw in daniel and he has by far exceeded everything that we thought
00:30:46everything that we knew he's been fantastic he's a tremendous leader he's athletic he can get after
00:30:51the quarterback he can stop the run like he really can do it all and i'm so glad he's on this football
00:30:56team well boys uh look who's in the game on fox nine hear who's in the game on the kfan minnesota
00:31:02vikings audio network that's max brosmer undrafted rookie from the university of minnesota spent five
00:31:09years at new hampshire one for the gophers he had 268 completions last year that is a single
00:31:16season record for sky yuma football look at that fastball left flag on the play
00:31:23max brosmer and paul you mentioned you mentioned the fastball and
00:31:27weeks when we sat down we had the ability to sit down with quacy at dopamensa he had a lot of really
00:31:32nice things to say about max brosmer mainly offense number 72 10 yard penalty still second down mainly
00:31:38what you just alluded to the quick release and the accuracy and i think those those having those two
00:31:45talents ben are going to keep you in the mix maybe not start right away but in the mix as an nfl quarterback
00:31:51for a long time yeah and they said you know maybe he doesn't have the strongest arm compared to jj
00:31:55mccarthy but his release sort of makes up for it so by the time it actually leaves his hand it's almost
00:32:01the same timing for these wide wide receivers even though it's not quite a strong velocity and you see
00:32:07you know a nice zip pass out to the right flat got there with perfect time and accuracy the other part
00:32:13of it is ko sees even he's on record saying like he is very detailed he works his butt off and they like the
00:32:19fact that he can take everything that he studied in the classroom and he's a fast and high processor
00:32:26as well on the field so really it's a for him it just seems like it's a a matter of just on field
00:32:31reps in a game time situation third and 12 straight drop brosmer fires over the middle incomplete it
00:32:38nearly was a serendipitous first down oh we got a flag by the way where the ball bounced off the hands of
00:32:44one viking almost into the hands personal foul of another viking the passer defense 52 15 yard penalty
00:32:53automatic first down all right now that's uh that's brad allen all right and uh his staff called the 11
00:33:00most 11th most penalties of all officiating crews in the nfl last year but second most roughing the
00:33:07passer what's the result of the play so if you um if you get close to that quarterback and come close to
00:33:13not doing it the right way allen's group is going to call it i think that that was a definite blow to
00:33:18the head right and i think that's a point of emphasis with the linesman was one of the or the back judge
00:33:25who was back in the day behind the defensive line made to the enforcement of the foul it is first down
00:33:31they've moved them from behind and that's maybe the one call we saw it against the rams it happened
00:33:35to us where you know a couple times last year just quarterbacks getting a hit in the head and and
00:33:40they're not calling it 13 10 minnesota max brosmer the fourth quarterback used passes right and it is
00:33:48incomplete dante felton undrafted from tulane the intended receiver let's take a look at the max brosmer's
00:33:58vision with these eagle eyes yeah pretty pretty simple read here he knows he knows exactly where he
00:34:05wants to go on the outside first and then you saw his eyes go down the field court sort to the middle
00:34:09of the hashes that was the second read that third crossing that was the third read so you saw how
00:34:15quickly and efficiently you know there was no panic there it was like one okay no two all right i know
00:34:21i got this crosser coming coming in the same line of vision now he's just got deliberate he has a
00:34:26swivel that's fantastic close move back to pass he's gonna run 30 25 dives ahead to the 23 yard line
00:34:33that'll be a run of about four making it around third and six by the way j.j mccarthy started the game
00:34:40uh he played 12 plays so he played one series led to a field goal he went four of seven thirty yards
00:34:47zero picks zero interceptions he ran for a first down on fourth down
00:34:52and uh that went for eight yards justin jefferson and j.j mccarthy i mean let's get used to that
00:34:58combination beginning september 8th at soldier field right yeah you just hope these two can have
00:35:03enough time together which i'm sure they will we're about still a month away that they can get on the
00:35:07same page brosmer fastball caught ten yard line first down miles price undrafted rookie from indiana that's
00:35:18the game of 14 first down for the vikings that's a big down and grosmer staying cool in the pocket
00:35:24stepping up and he missed the crossing route a little bit earlier ben but that one was
00:35:29right on time and that's a true measure of an nfl quarterback yeah it's between the hash marks
00:35:35that's fine and all but you still got to be able to be cold-blooded and that was oh yeah he he let
00:35:40let him perfectly that's the you put in a spot where only the receiver can go and get it like that was a
00:35:45beautiful ball i'll tell you why i was laughing in a second silas bold in motion to the left
00:35:49rosemary booting out to the right hit as he throws over the head uh back up running back
00:35:53craig stewart in uh inkling box nine cut away to sideline reaction after that cold-blooded connection

00:36:20feel somebody chasing you a little bit like that it's it is the spirit of competition even though
00:36:24you're all supposed to be teammates and friends and help each other out but we're all we're all
00:36:27trying to take other other people's jobs trey stewart bulldogging up the middle
00:36:32he's a rookie from jackson jacksonville state he uh played at something called limestone before
00:36:40jacksonville state about this trey stewart had 54 touchdowns with limestone and jacksonville state
00:36:48oh we got somebody down that um that might be the center zeke corral yeah zeke corral undrafted rookie
00:36:56from um north carolina state hey you mentioned trey stewart he was one of eight running backs
00:37:02in the fbs with 20 plus touchdowns yeah he had 25 last year he threw you a third in fbs and so
00:37:08crazy yeah you know he's a high volume guy right that matters too so he's no this is this
00:37:15this is just right up his alley and you get you know you get these late late these preseason games
00:37:20bent you know you're playing against the same guys on the other side undrafted free agents and

00:38:49nfl game is such a can be such a short underneath control passing type of a of a game that it might
00:38:56be just built right for brosmer i think he's looked very very very good today he's look he's looked
00:39:01smooth right yeah touchdown is under further review oh no it's not just give it to us oh no it's a
00:39:10touchdown it's a touchdown no i i would say that he's he's looked smooth he's looked decisive and even
00:39:17even the the one incomplete pass he had over the middle when we're breaking down his eyes and all
00:39:21the division and stuff like that it wasn't an inaccurate throw maybe a little get some hot sauce
00:39:26on it a little bit but you know he kind of felt that that clock ticking down like okay i'm in the
00:39:32pocket a little bit too long i get this ball out but it was still a catchable ball so even as misses
00:39:37aren't bad misses that's a touchdown guys yeah we can't break cards in anchorage oh maybe he didn't
00:39:43get in we'll see but uh there are luminaries uh taking in this broadcast the simulcast all over the

00:41:06the guy who started this whole thing josh mccown in 2003. brosmer takes the snap he steps up fires to the end zone
00:41:16touchdown vikings the price was right on that play it's miles price and this time officially it's 19-10
00:41:31half and there it is again another throw middle of the field man-to-man coverage just putting it right
00:41:38where only the receiver can get it because the chance the receiver can use his body so
00:41:42yeah i'm very impressed with rosmer and how he's conducting himself on that drive that's a big
00:41:47fourth down that that's a big time play it is it's a big time play yeah there there was no panic to him
00:41:53at all i mean he waited for that was a very that was a specifically designed play to get price open
00:41:58in the back part of the end zone all he needed was the offensive line to hold up and do their part
00:42:03he was patient didn't try to rush it just feathered that thing in there accurately touchdown give it to
00:42:09price one more time and you look at the rosner's catalog obviously got the chance to see him at
00:42:15the university of minnesota but here's a guy who went and started he spent five years in new hampshire
00:42:21he was the first quarterback in school history to start as a true freshman so if you're a scout if
00:42:29you're a personnel guy what does that mean well it just means that as an 18 year old young man or
00:42:35kid you want to call it that the game wasn't too big for him because you know as a quarterback it's
00:42:41not just about see ball get ball you got to manage everything else going around you and i think that's
00:42:47exactly what we're seeing here is is him being able to in and out of the huddle manage everything
00:42:52that's going on understand pull the ball down when there's an opportunity to scramble and make it a short
00:42:57third down i mean i'm very impressed with broseman you know i i don't i'm not going to claim to be any
00:43:03sort of like quarterbacks or bonds or like know all the fundamentals and stuff but when you when we
00:43:10talked to jj mccarthy and we asked him about this game and what he expects expects out of himself he's
00:43:15just like i just want to be consistent with my eyes and my feet that is the one thing that koc talks about
00:43:21all the time look at broseman out here yeah i mean his his eyes his feet the fundamentals the foundation
00:43:28all of that stuff seemed like it was like in lock step and so when you look at him just like with
00:43:33the eye test he he looks like he knows what he's doing yeah so did jj mccarthy who we're seeing now

00:43:45doing it did a nice job all day long like this this is a kind of off schedule type of a scramble to get
00:43:51the first down and fourth down i mean the awareness of things going on in front of him i thought jj

00:49:31up a little bit on that last run but he ended up splitting the double team ultimately and making a
00:49:34tackle and yeah there's a lot of depth at that interior defensive line position

00:49:47levi drake rodriguez uh yeah it took him a little bit i think it took him a series or two to kind of
00:49:52get to the speed you know what i'm saying of what houston was trying to do so that all being said
00:49:59expected to be a strong point and now we're seeing a guy like elijah williams showing up so good group in
00:50:06the middle and can it can't be too big bet you gotta you know i'm saying you gotta be big to be in
00:50:10the middle well i mean these guys are so fortunate to be you know watching hargrave and phillips and
00:50:16allen and all of these guys up front veteran guys that have done it pro bowls all pros all that stuff
00:50:23and uh they get they get the toolage of all those guys every single day all right fourth and short
00:50:28mertz goes out of the shotgun he's gonna pass mertz dump left caught brooks oh he shook on kobe king
00:50:35first down for the houston texans trailing 20 to 10. for more on levi drake rodriguez here's tatum yeah
00:50:43you guys are talking about my guy he's taking a big step this camp and it's been very evident even in
00:50:48the last few weeks he's been playing with his hair on fire and uh that's a lot of hair if you ask me
00:50:53he had one of the most dominant practices from a player this camp last week as a result coach o'connell
00:50:58let him break down the team huddle after practice i talked to assistant general manager ryan grixen
00:51:04who told me he came here ready for camp that he practically lives in the building and always has
00:51:09a smile on his face i'm sure you guys have noticed levi drake doesn't walk around without a smile hey no
00:51:15doubt and um and not only is he gregarious and forever happy um he had a good twitch off the line
00:51:22of scrimmage last year it's twice as good this year and he's stronger now ben well going back to our
00:51:28meetings yesterday with ko see i mean he actually addressed this and he said the light bulb seemed to
00:51:34have went off for levi drake rodriguez just the other day he said that he's been making plays he's
00:51:40always been an instinctful pass rusher but he told us that the game is starting to slow down for him
00:51:46no longer your eyes trying to process all the things that you can't control you're just seeing exactly
00:51:51almost another interception here for the vikings defense but you know pete you you've been there
00:51:56been through that before where when you're young things seem to be going at 150 miles an hour yeah and
00:52:03then for whatever reason offense number 73 10-yard penalty second down whether it's just film study
00:52:10repetition what have you all of a sudden that 150 starts to go down to like cruising speed now you're
00:52:16like 65 miles they're like hey this is nice man right things are moving fast but i can control the
00:52:21environment i'm in absolutely and the other thing the other thing i think that koi si adobe menza brought
00:52:26up is that he understands who he is as a pass rusher right and that's important because i saw a lot
00:52:32of guys come in here thinking that they're john randall right or chris dolman it's like no you are
00:52:37you and you have to figure out what works for you and that's apparently what's when they said the
00:52:42light bulb's gone off that is exactly what we're talking about mercs in trouble throws right to
00:52:50lache caught at the forty one stopped at the forty one far shy of the first down
00:52:56and now it'll be third and right around ten we said it earlier but brian flores defensive coordinator for
00:53:04the vikings he called i believe the first series of this game durante jones the defensive backs coach
00:53:11he's been calling a majority of the game you can see durante at the 50 with all the
00:53:16hand motions and gyrations and everything that's really cool that kevin o'connell gives these assistance
00:53:22i mean not just like okay you get this series at the end of the game no he gives like wes phillips
00:53:28mike saravo durante jones he he gives them autonomy to call games in the preseason interception by the
00:53:36minnesota vikings the ball was tipped and it's picked off and that's khalif
00:53:42hail lassi who has two interceptions and paul you take a look at this team last year in the turnover ratio
00:53:5025 20 i'm sorry 24 interceptions last year ben the next nearest team to us had 19. yeah and that's
00:53:59what you want the pressure going to tips going to turnovers it's it's kind of a of a calling card
00:54:07for this brian flores defense to be aggressive to get the hands up in the air have guys that have
00:54:12unbelievably good awareness if you're not if you're gonna you're not gonna get to the quarterback
00:54:16and take the lineman down the middle and get your hands up in the throwing lane that's what the
00:54:21vikings deep three interceptions today already so that trend is continuing
00:54:27i know the coaching staff loves that because they that's what they emphasize in practice to
00:54:31see these guys come on the field and actually execute it it's the best yeah and it's and it's
00:54:36team defense too obviously you want you want there's gonna be times where it's just individual
00:54:40performances a great a great athletic leap or something like that jumping around those things
00:54:45are going to happen but for this defense what we've seen last year and already so far this year this
00:54:50one preseason game you know the the other interception that khalif had earlier that was a great
00:54:56spot draft by the linebacker the reason why that ball had to be floated was because there was a
00:55:00purple colored jersey right where the quarterback wanted to throw so he had put a little bit more
00:55:05air on it and there's there's haley see right there to pick it off this other one right here it's
00:55:10it's pressure off the edge and then it's a tip ball at the line of scrimmage all right
00:55:14brosmer three of six with the touchdown second and six brosmer fastball right caught short of the first
00:55:21touchdown uh i want to spend a couple seconds talking about jj mccarthy and something uh we heard
00:55:26from him yesterday in our production meeting and he was talking about the importance of his cadence
00:55:31okay that's the ready um yeah something like that and and the importance of changing it with veterans
00:55:39like brian o'neill and jonathan allen praising him at training camp saying my man your cadence is perfect
00:55:46don't change it yeah i mean that's that's the little nuance things that about about every player
00:55:51especially a quarterback though you have to like not only notice the meat and potatoes of like the
00:55:56offense and the defense what the defense is trying to do to you and how you can manipulate all that
00:56:00but then also you can manipulate the defense as well that was a great ball that was a great ball yeah i
00:56:05mean brosner is kind of low-key stealing the show right now great football um but when you change on
00:56:11the play when you when you work on little nuanced things like your cadence and it's throwing off for
00:56:16the pass holding defense 41 yeah five yard penalty automatic first down yeah that's like all of a
00:56:24sudden now you're you're taking your understanding from like a 200 level 300 level where he's at and now
00:56:30you're like into the 400 500 level class that he's going through where you're getting praised by
00:56:35veteran defensive players they're like man we're we're getting confused out here like we're trying
00:56:41to figure out what you're doing and you keep changing this so like that's uh it's a great sign for him
00:56:45that he's really understand this game okay now what does this mean all right first down for the vikings
00:56:51first and ten from the texas 26 approaching the two-minute warning max brosner at the quarterback
00:56:57when j.j mccarthy says the feet and eyes tell the story what blue brosner leaving at 20 o'clock
00:57:06we'll get into that after the two-minute warning it's going to be first and goal for the vikings
00:57:12i mean brosner is just looping things left and right and everything is turning up positive it's 20 to 10
00:57:19minnesota as we approach the two-minute warning patriots next week final two minutes of preseason game

00:57:49that mean i mean i think it's it's kind of the pyramid of being a good quarterback meaning the base is
00:57:55what's most important and the feet and the eyes they go hand in hand i guess for lack of a better term but
00:58:01you have to really pay attention to those fundamentals and that's the checklist that he's
00:58:06had embedded in them ben from coach o'connell is hey yeah yeah there's a lot there's the cadence and
00:58:12there's all these other things there's a bunch there but it's the it's the feet in the eyes that
00:58:17dictate how well you're going to execute don't forget that don't don't lose that base to your
00:58:23fundamentals yeah and that and that base in my the my understanding has to follow where your eyes are
00:58:29going per the progression of what you're looking at as the defense as we saw you know from brosmer
00:58:35about 10 minutes ago when we were breaking down his eye movement it's like you go from that first
00:58:40read to the far right outside the numbers well when you snap back to that near hash well your feet got
