Will the Egyptian continue to shine this season under Arne Slot?
Transcript
00:00Yeah, I mean, it gets to sort of January time every season.
00:04And when we catch up, we always seem to mention Mohamed Salah in the records.
00:07He's already sort of broken how well he started each season.
00:10You know, he's 33 years old now.
00:12He obviously had his best return last season since his debut season at the club.
00:18Where do you see his season going?
00:20Do you think he can continue these high numbers?
00:22Because it got to a point where, you know, Liverpool might not have had to be at their best,
00:26but Mohamed Salah was.
00:27So they were winning games last season.
00:28And, you know, certainly got them near enough over the line in the long term.
00:33Yeah, and I think that's why Arnaz Slotter's addressed the attacking areas,
00:37because he said that maybe Liverpool didn't win enough games by significant margins.
00:45Maybe a lot of 1-0s.
00:46Maybe, as you say, they did rely on Salah a little bit.
00:50And he said that Liverpool in pre-season and in the community shields,
00:55their attack was better than the whole of last season.
00:58Ironically, it's been Salah who's been actually quite quiet in pre-season.
01:03I think he only scores one goal, which was against the Flesco Bilbao, I think it was.
01:10Put a penalty over the bar as well.
01:12And he was really, really subdued in the community shields.
01:16The way Liverpool may be going to be playing, flodding there to the 10,
01:21is a lot of Liverpool's play going to be coming through him rather than maybe looking to get it out to Salah?
01:27If they were to get it out to Landry, does he become more of a target man?
01:31Does most Salah become more of a provider than a goal scorer?
01:36I don't know.
01:36Look, but by the same token, there were periods in the game in the community shields where Salah was still staying very high up the pitch.
01:48So his remiss hasn't changed yet.
01:50It doesn't look like...
01:52Look, Pearl wouldn't have offered Mo Salah a new deal if they didn't think he can keep delivering.
01:56They wouldn't have given him the wages if they didn't think that he can keep delivering.
02:00And then Mo Salah might just be keeping a little bit back.
02:06Maybe in that game of the community shields, he thought, right, I want to make sure I'm fine-tuned for the start of the season.
02:11This game isn't the top of my priority list.
02:15I mean, look, Mo Salah is all about goals and assists, and he wants to win trophies.
02:23To be quite frank, I don't think Mo Salah recognised the community shields as a trophy.
02:27I know some players would have been hurt by losing to Palace, but if I had to put my neck on the line, yeah, I'd be disappointed they got beat.
02:37But if Liverpool went and won the league or the Champions League at the end of the season, no-one's going to look back and think, well, they lost the community shields.
02:43Maybe Mo Salah's got that mindset.
02:45But it would be interesting because with Jeremy Fringpong coming in, how does that rapport build?
02:52Connor Bradley as well still maybe learning each other's game.
02:57Maybe they've got a little bit better of a relationship.
02:59But I don't think anyone will not be expecting Mo Salah to be prolific this season.
03:05But maybe his remit might change a little bit.
03:07Maybe he might just become a little bit more of a provider, if they were to say, to get Alexander Isaac over the line.
03:13I'll see you next time.
