00:00Any death at a level crossing is tragic.
00:03We've seen far too many people lose their lives at these crossings.
00:07What we're trialling at Corindai is a new train-activated solar system
00:12that turns a passive rail crossing into an active one.
00:16The unique thing about RACS is that it is wireless technology and it's also solar,
00:31so it's able to be used in remote locations without access to power.
00:36This will make a significant difference in saving lives in rail crossings.
00:40Regional communities have been calling out for improvements to level crossings
00:44for many, many decades.
00:46The challenge of not having access to good power has always been a difficult one
00:51and it astronomically increases the cost of installing them.
00:55The advantage with RACS is that with a lower cost installation,
00:58because you're not reliant on mains power,
01:01it means that we'll be able to roll this out, if it's successful,
01:04to many more locations across regional New South Wales.
01:14It's really important that motorists stop at level crossings as directed to do so.
01:21It takes so long for a train to stop,
01:24and that time is the time that could be a difference between life and death.
01:29It's much quicker for a car or an other vehicle to stop at the level crossing,
01:33to wait, to ensure that it's safe to cross,
01:36than a train which is travelling at some 80 kilometres an hour.
01:39With more than 2,700 level crossings in New South Wales,
01:42we're doing everything we can to save lives.
