00:00Hi! So today is very, very exciting because we also get a second chance to see the Slate truck in person,
00:06but this is the SUV open-air version.
00:10So this is what you would get if you want to bomb around the beaches with no roof,
00:14but also enough seats for you and all your friends.
00:16So let's get into it.
00:22So when we introduced this truck, we had Alex Lanz, who is lovely, but also 5'20",
00:28and I am 5'3".
00:29So this is what it looks like scale-wise with a person who is more within the range of normal humans.
00:37To start, this is it, and you can see right away, there is that Slate signature in the front,
00:47but here's a little hint.
00:49If you see these little anchor points here, this all means that you are welcome to take your little tool
00:57and disassemble it and customize it as you will.
01:02This blue, by the way, this is a vinyl wrap that you can order.
01:07So all the Slate trucks, they come blank slate from the factory, which means that they have all composite body panels with no color
01:15color, and all the color that you add.
01:17It's not done via a paint shop like a normal car, you do it via vinyl wrapping.
01:22So I would love to know what this looks like to do myself, because I get psyched out putting the screen protector on my phone.
01:30So I've, before, never done a car.
01:33This is just a prototype, so things aren't perfect.
01:37So just keep in mind that not everything you see here will be true to the production version.
01:41Just like how there is a front trunk here, but because it is a prototype, we can't open it today.
01:46But this would be the height of the load floor.
01:50So you can see on me, it's about hip height, which is a perfect height for loading things.
01:56Sometimes when it's too high, really makes difficult to get in there.
02:01And just like what we talked about, these points right here mean that you can change them or swap them around.
02:08Or maybe even if you get into a small Thunderbender, you can just call Slate and they'll send you a replacement or you can just run around with it, too.
02:17Apparently, they're pretty dent resistant.
02:20I will note one thing about all of these accessible body panels.
02:28You know, we asked Slate what is stopping, I don't know, if you park it on the street, say in New York City, which is where I live.
02:35What's stopping someone from coming up with, you know, like the same Allen key and just popping off a body panel and taking it home with them, maybe to sell on Facebook Marketplace or something.
02:45And I don't know if there is anything stopping you from doing that.
02:51Maybe that's a longer conversation for later.
02:54But that potentially could be something to think about.
02:57So, yes, it is beautifully accessible, but it kind of sounds like beautifully accessible to everyone with the tool.
03:10So here is the bed.
03:12You can open it.
03:15It's a pretty hefty tailgate.
03:17And even with the seats added in, it's not bad.
03:20You know, this is a pretty hardy, scratch-resistant material.
03:26And you can see there are cup holders right there for tailgating.
03:32Hold for sound.
03:35And these extra bars here, this is part of the SUV package.
03:39So the SUV top would just go right over it.
03:43But you have some structural rigidity there.
03:47And, yeah, the trunk is still pretty decent.
03:50Let's see if I can close this one-handed.
03:52Yes, absolutely can.
03:55Here are the rear seats, which we are told can do a 60-40 split.
04:04They are not, they won't fold completely flat, but they'll be flat enough.
04:10And here is the driver's seat.
04:12As you can see, it is very basic.
04:13The whole Slate ethos is you don't want more screens that you don't need.
04:19So there is one driver information cluster, which is back here.
04:22It'll be on once the truck is on.
04:24This one is not on currently.
04:27And here are all of your lights, front trunk, parking brake, functionality.
04:34Here's your crank window down here.
04:36Crank windows in 2025.
04:37Isn't that fun?
04:38This is their seat.
04:39There will be more carpet options, but, again, this is prototype.
04:45So not everything that you see here will be making it to production.
04:49But, yeah, this is your H-Vac, and there are physical dials, and your phone would just go in this mount.
04:58In this truck, currently, the mount doesn't move, but it would be able to move back and forth.
05:03And you would just, so your phone would go right there, just like that.
05:07And you'd be able to use all of your apps and existing tools.
05:13So here's your view.
05:15Here's your over-the-hood view.
05:17As a distance to move your eyes between here to see your phone and here to see your truck information, your speed, things like that, it's really not that far.
05:27You know?
05:28You can still keep your eyes on the road, and everything is in view, which is great.
05:35There's nice storage right here.
05:38This also looks like it'll be customizable.
05:42And this doesn't open, but this will be additional storage as well.
05:47And let's see how much headroom I have.
05:51Pretty good, right?
05:52I've got plenty of room.
05:54The seats are supportive.
05:55At the moment, the seat foam feels a little hard on the hard side.
06:00But, again, I'm sure that's something we can change.
06:03And also, that might not even be the final version.
06:06So, let's see what we've got back here.
06:09This is your second row with open air.
06:14Legroom looks decent.
06:16And as you can see, there are cup holders right here.
06:23It's nice.
06:25So, here's the view that you're working with from the back seat.
06:30It is, indeed, very airy.
06:33Check that out.
06:35These will be all over Southern California for sure.
