00:00A Bryan Danielson injury scare, the Hardy Boys returning to WWE, and my review of AEW
00:08Dynasty.
00:09I'm Oli Davis, and this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:19Before I get into my AEW Dynasty review, here's a quick update on the Hardy Boys returning
00:24to WWE.
00:26Even though Jeff is still signed to AEW, even though Matt returned to TNA at their Rebellion
00:31show over the weekend.
00:33The Wyatt6th prediction lives.
00:35Smackdown KO feud.
00:38Wyatt6th member.
00:39Oh okay.
00:41He would be a good 5th.
00:44I'll give you my 6th now, because they're not on this list.
00:48Matt freaking Hardy.
00:57After Matt Hardy broke like it was 2016 and attacked world champion Moose after Rebellion's
01:02main event, he revealed on X that he's just dating TNA in an on-exclusive We Can See Other
01:07People relationship.
01:09Which coincidentally is what your mum told me last night.
01:12He's also spoken on his podcast about recently being in talks with both WWE and AEW.
01:23Meanwhile Fightful is reporting Jeff Hardy's AEW contract is up much sooner than expected
01:29who was previously thought that could be expiring in 2025, making him available to join his brother
01:34in any talks.
01:35Or do you have the Hardy Boys do in the Paul Aveck era of WWE?
01:40Tell them to squeeze back into those mesh shirts in the comments down below.
01:44Now it's time for my review of AEW Dynasty in about 10 minutes.
01:48The Zero Hour pre-show saw Trent tap out Matt Seidel in his first match since being a very
01:53bad friend to Orange Cassidy.
01:56He told Chucky afterwards he wants to know what side he's on by Wednesday's Dynamite,
02:00and don't run away from Cassidy and Shibata, who came down for the next match tagging against
02:04Shane Taylor promotions.
02:05They had a really decent match, with some great sequences between Cassidy and Moriarty,
02:10which the babyfaces won.
02:11I would have had Trent cost them the victory somehow, so Shane Taylor didn't have to lose
02:16again.
02:17And the final Zero Hour match, the Zero Hour Main Event if you will, saw Bullet Club Gold
02:22unify the AEW and Ring of Honor six man titles by beating the acclaimed.
02:27You can make all the arguments you want about more people seeing the free matches, or that
02:31he's now got even more belts.
02:33Jay White being a pre-show act is a travesty.
02:37When Max Caster joked about that in his rap, the crowd didn't even react.
02:40They were too depressed.
02:41The match was fun in isolation, and Jay got to beat Daddy Ass hitting a Blade Runner to
02:46win.
02:47Hopefully this feud is now over, and both teams and sets of belts can go on to better things.
02:52The main card opened with Kozuchika a card defending his Continental Championship against
02:56Pac in an expertly building match.
02:59The pace was methodical, laid out to maximise the impact of the big moves.
03:03A top rope brain buster from Pac, a draping DDT off the apron outside from Okada, a Black
03:09Arrow sending Pac's face right into Okada's knees.
03:12A single Rainmaker to win.
03:14While Okada was having fun being a heel.
03:17The best being when he fired up the crowd for the Rainmaker pose, and just flipped a middle
03:20finger instead.
03:21Adam Copeland and his ROH friends took on the House of Black next, in a six man tag designed
03:26to build the next big TNT title feud.
03:29Copeland vs Malakai Black.
03:32Malakai even got the pin on edge after spitting the mist to set that up.
03:36But I was far more into KingBow!
03:40The Battle of the Kings!
03:41Brodie King vs Eddie Kingston, who chopped each other raw.
03:44Eddie got so fired up chopping at one point, he fell over.
03:47Julia Hart reportedly really is injured.
03:50While she got physical, she lost her title in just 6 minutes to Willow Nightingale, in
03:54a House Rules match where Willow banned not just Sky Blue, but her own friend Chris Statlander
03:59from ringside.
04:00That'd probably play into something.
04:01There's that Statlander-Willow tension.
04:03There's Willow's first title win.
04:04There's the unceremonious end to Julia's title reign.
04:07But much like most of the TBS title pictures so far, it's more about everyone asking,
04:11where's Monet?
04:12Monet?
04:13Where's Monet?
04:14Oh great, here she is.
04:15She's coming now.
04:16She falls barely into her celebration when Mercedes walked down like it's 2019 WWE to
04:21have a smiling stare-off.
04:22To me, it undermined Nightingale's first AEW title win, which to me should have been
04:27an all-time women's division moment, making her feel like a transitional champ just seconds
04:31into her reign.
04:33And it still feels like Mercedes has actually done nothing since she arrived in AEW.
04:38Weeks and weeks.
04:39Stilted interview after stilted interview.
04:41The only thing I can tell you about her character is Willow once injured her.
04:45There was an opportunity for an angle after the quick loss.
04:50Have Chris and Stokely side with Monet and turn on Willow.
04:53Something.
04:54Anything.
04:55I was hoping Roderick Strong vs Karl O'Reilly would be a sleeper hit.
04:58The international championship might have really fallen in significance since Roddy won
05:01it, and the undisputed kingdom might have completely lost its way.
05:05God damn do I love 2010 Ring of Honor, and these two brought me right back to my markiest
05:10of Mark Markusson days.
05:11You like backbreakers?
05:12Well then you're in luck.
05:14We got backbreakers on the mat.
05:15We got backbreakers up in the air.
05:17We got backbreakers on the top turnbuckle.
05:19So many backbreakers, Roddy didn't even need Wardlow interference to retain.
05:23Strong beat O'Reilly clean in a fantastic hard-hitting match.
05:26The rest of the undisputed kingdom appeared on the stage afterwards where Adam Cole stood
05:30up out of his wheelchair and jogged down to the ring.
05:33Hopefully that, and a well-placed stink eye at Wardlow, means this faction can get moving
05:38again after Cole's injury.
05:40Chris Jericho has made a career out of knowing when to leave the audience wanting more.
05:44His departure from WWE in 05, 2010, 2018, it always felt like he was one step ahead into
05:50his next overrun.
05:52So how are we six months into 2024 and the crowd are still chanting, go home Jericho,
05:58go home.
06:00And please retire.
06:02The thing is, he's actually having good matches.
06:06His FTW Hardcore Rules match against Hook here was pretty decent.
06:10Hook suplexed him all over the place, Jericho took a big bump off the apron through a table,
06:14and he gave Hook a ton, letting him kick out of two Judas effects.
06:18Which is rarer than a shiny Hooper or something.
06:20I don't know.
06:22I don't play Digimon.
06:23But the crowd don't want it.
06:24I don't want it.
06:26Jericho has go away heat right now.
06:28So him winning the FTW title in yet another of his feuds that started with the babyface
06:33beating him for him to then win doesn't make me excited for TV.
06:38Thunder Rosa pulled off her mask to reveal a new look for her championship match against
06:42Toni Storm.
06:43With a cool response from Toni rubbing off her makeup during the build and a larger meta
06:47commentary on Storm's fractured identity.
06:52They had a very decent back and forth match, which lost its way a bit for me when Mariah
06:55May Luther and Deonna Purrazzo started fighting outside.
06:58Toni still cheated to hit the Storm Zero to win.
07:01And then came, oh I don't know, one of the greatest matches I've ever seen.
07:05To me, the next match felt like the main event.
07:07It didn't have a belt on the line like every other bout on this card, it had something more.
07:12For a promotion now built around being where, the best, wrestle, they were fighting to
07:17finally decide who the best wrestler in the world right now is.
07:22Will Ospreay vs Bryan Danielson, and the answer is yes.
07:29The crowd were chanting holy yes word before the bell even rang.
07:32Danielson was smiling, relishing the occasion.
07:34Ospreay was serious, focused, Danielson's grin didn't last long though.
07:38They had a lightning fast sequence of reversals, feints and dodges.
07:41Bryan's face went from smiling to deathly serious, and he gave Will a middle finger.
07:46This really was delivering on the billing.
07:49They are deciding who the best wrestler in the world is, and I was in love with this match
07:54from about two minutes in.
07:56Danielson leaned more heelish, which is easy for the BCC tweeners, as Ospreay is a fantastic
08:01babyface.
08:02Bryan would lock Will in submission after submission, his speciality, while Ospreay would burst out
08:07into a flurry of athletic offense.
08:09Danielson hit a top rope tiger suplex.
08:12Will hit an oscutter on the apron.
08:14Danielson reversed a blade with a knee for an incredible near fall.
08:17The match had now thrillingly become big move after big move.
08:21Danielson cockily did the bicep pose in a triangle, but Ospreay picked him up for a one-armed Styles
08:26clash.
08:27And it culminated, as so many of Will's matches do, with a gear above everything else
08:37you didn't know was reachable.
08:39Danielson started leading Yes Chance from one corner of the ring.
08:42Will was poised opposite him, removing his elbow pad for the hidden blade.
08:46It was like two Warriors preparing for their final charge.
08:49Both men equal up until this point, about to hit their last, best shot, Bryan's knee,
08:56against Ospreay's blade.
08:58But Will was that little bit younger, that little bit quicker.
09:00He beat Bryan to the punch with a hidden blade.
09:03But Will didn't want to fire his best shot, only to find out he'd only wounded Danielson.
09:07So he picked him up and hit a Tiger Driver 91.
09:10The same move that beat Kenny Omega, dropping him on his neck.
09:13Ospreay ran to the corner to prepare for one last hidden blade, so he missed Bryan's
09:17twitching and the referee calling for the medic.
09:20Something was wrong with Danielson's neck.
09:22But Ospreay was in kill mode, already running towards a spasming Bryan and hit the hidden
09:26blade to win.
09:27It was a fantastic extra piece of drama at the end of one of the best matches I've
09:31ever seen.
09:32Will wanted to beat Danielson, but not like this.
09:35Is this the cost of being the best wrestler in the world?
09:38It sets up a story of Will's increasing heart, potentially pushing him away from Don
09:43Callis.
09:44Ospreay said in the post-match interview he'll be retiring using that move so no one else
09:49gets injured.
09:50AEW did the injury angle very well, with many buying into Danielson being legitimately hurt.
09:55It's clearly a storyline to put your fears at rest, as Fightful is reporting the spot
09:59was planned.
10:00I wouldn't know how to ever follow that match, but if I'm ever going to.
10:03I want it to be with FTR and the Young Bucks.
10:05Three hours into the card, four and a half hours into the whole show with the Zero Hour,
10:09after that incredible, emotional match, FTR and the Jacksons had a terrific ladder match.
10:15It's like the Bucks are more comfortable on ladders than they are in a normal wrestling
10:19ring.
10:20And Dak sure is comfortable bleeding, profusely, from his head.
10:24They had table bumps, pile drivers through ladder bridges, 450s off the top rope outside.
10:29It felt like each time was also locked in an anything you can do, I can do better war.
10:33But that was again FTR's downfall.
10:36Cash Wheeler went for a dive outside, with shades of his 450 attempt from their first
10:40match, for Nick to move and send him crashing through a table.
10:44Even with Cash taken out, Dax almost had it won, but a masked man ran in and pushed the
10:48ladder over for it to be revealed as scapegoat Jack Perry.
10:53With an excellent S-word eating grin, the Jacksons unhooked the belts to become the first ever
10:58three-time tag team champions, draping the Elite with gold and likely adding Perry to
11:03the faction.
11:04The main event was made by the result, with Swerve Strickland dressed in Black Panther
11:08inspired gear, winning the AEW world title.
11:12They had a great establishing set up, with Joe doing his walk away spot for Swerve to have
11:17that already scouted, landing off the top rope on his feet, and then to reveal he also had
11:22the superior game plan, targeting Joe's arm, meaning when he got the Kikina clutch locked
11:26in it wasn't as squeezy as usual and he survived.
11:30Joe used a snap power slam on the exposed concrete outside instead, or got his world title for
11:35a weapon at one point, but Swerve overcame all.
11:38He even kicked out of a muscle buster.
11:40Given the build to this match, which was based around Swerve loving bloodbaths and Joe being
11:44scared by the violent depth Strickland can go to, this did feel a bit like it was missing
11:49the extra edge.
11:50Not that one.
11:51It ended up as the fourth longest match on the card, somewhat undermining their war of
11:55attrition.
11:56It was a great moment though, and I'm incredibly excited for Swerve as champion.
12:00Thank you Joe.
12:01I will be forever grateful your title win wasn't just for Christmas.
