00:25he was almost two hours late for his Q&A appearance at the WWE World event ahead of WrestleMania

00:3240, where adult tickets cost $60.

00:35The Rock explained his tardiness once he finally showed up on watching YouTube.

00:39We've all been there.

00:40Specifically, watching Jalen Hurts lose in the playoffs again, which I'm told is something

00:44to do with Philadelphia sports.

00:47The crowd's boos only strengthened the dastardly final boss though, so it was up to a little

00:53girl in the audience to cut him down to size.

00:59Rock could not keep a straight face afterwards.

01:02Cody does not win the championship this Sunday, it is now up to Little Girl to finish the story.

01:08Because apparently, much like dogs or Warhammer 40k sets you still haven't assembled at

01:12Christmas, a Rock isn't just for WrestleMania.

01:16In an ESPN article covering The Rock's in-ring return for tomorrow night, Johnson revealed

01:20he will be a permanent influence on the WWE product.

01:24I'm not off the board after WrestleMania.

01:27I'm still on the board, and I will always be a part of this, and we are in it now.

01:32This is our thing, and will forever be our thing.

01:36Brian Gawitt, The Rock's personal creative producer in WWE, explained in that same article,

01:42that doesn't mean Johnson will be a fixture on Raw from now on, but I could definitely

01:46say that this isn't over a day after WrestleMania, and I'm going to go off into the sunset now.

01:52Gawitt's attributed this to Rock enjoying his heel character far more than the limits

01:57of being a babyface.

01:58There will be a period where there is no Rock in the immediate Mania follow up though.

02:03PWInsider have reported he's scheduled to film the MMA fighter Mark Kerr biopic, The Smashing

02:08Machine, from the 1st of May through to the 1st of August.

02:12Which I've just found out is going to be directed by Benny Safdie.

02:15That is going to be a great fricking movie.

02:17That could legit be Rock's best ever acting performance.

02:20And when he comes back, maybe to face Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, because remember, it

02:25isn't actually Rock vs Cody on Night 2 this weekend, it's Cody vs Reigns.

02:29The Rock could be fighting for his old belt.

02:32Also speaking at the WWE World Event, Cody said if he wins Roman's title at WrestleMania,

02:38maybe we change how that title looks.

02:41Cody vs the current UWO Championship design is another story that needs finishing, as he

02:46had previously said in May 2022 about wanting to bring back the Winged Eagle World title,

02:53considered by many to be the best belt in wrestling history.

02:57Like Sullivan in Tables, Lists and Chairs.

02:59Full disclosure, that was about the Big Eagle belt, which is technically different to the

03:07Winged Eagle, but very similar.

03:13Anyway, Cody said almost two years ago, I'd say hypothetically it really would be something

03:18to achieve the ultimate industry dream, being the best of the best ever in terms of that

03:23moment in time, and then perhaps giving it a fresh coat of paint with the Winged Eagle.

03:29Ahead of his WrestleMania 39 loss, he also shared a picture of the Winged Eagle on his Instagram

03:34story, which got us all excited for when we thought he was going to finish the story in

03:38that year.

03:39And Cody does have a track record of rescuing better belt designs from the past, where he

03:43brought back the White Strap Intercontinental title from the 90s in his 2011 run.

03:48And given WWE's big Attitude Era vibes this year already, bringing back its most iconic

03:54championship would fit with Nick Khan and Cody Rhodes' description of the post-Vince

03:58company as the Renaissance era.

05:15Jackie Redman, Kayla Braxton and the cast of WWE's new show Spirit Squad Babies I Don't

05:20Know Who Those People Are unveiled the XL stage with all the Cody Pyro featuring, appropriately,

05:26massive X and L letters on either side of the entrance.

05:29Both WWE and John Cena have been teasing a John Cena return for the show, with Cena saying

05:35in interviews he's free that day, and WWE using his image as a reported easter egg in

05:40the background of the Rock Cody beatdown angle on Raw.

05:42Now PWInsider is reporting he is expected to be in town, but he won't be able to do any

05:48major physicality for the whole year due to his filming schedule.

05:52Both Rhea Ripley and Drew McIntyre will reportedly be getting special entrances on the show.

05:56And several interesting names have been spotted in Philadelphia for the weekend, like former

06:02Stardom champion Julia, who's rumoured to be WWE bound, former Stardom head Rossi Agour,

06:07currently out injured Braun Strowman, and Taylor Swift's boyfriend Jason Kelsey.

06:13Who's apparently also an ex-football player, sports.

06:15When PWInsider asked their sources about Kelsey being in town, they were apparently given this

06:20response.

06:21I'm going to read this with my finger here to get across its cheekiness.

06:24I can't tell you that, but if he was, you'd think we'd book him to do something physical

06:30in the stadium he called home, right?

06:34WrestleMania feels even more, dare I say, magical than usual, because the once intimidating

06:40walls around WWE have been slowly brought down.

06:43At Thursday's GCW Bloodsport show, an indie event that WWE would historically have nothing

06:48to do with, Shayna Baszler beat TNA's Masha Slamovich by kicking her in the head, with

06:54Zoey Stark in her corner, and replacing injured, former but kinda back AEW star Anthony Henry

07:00, NXT's Charlie Dempsey beat Matt Murkowski.

07:04The show was main evented by Josh Barnett beating AEW star Johnny TV, who was called Johnny

07:09Bloodsport for the occasion.

07:10And it wasn't just onscreen that had wrestlers from AEW, WWE, TNA and Japan all together on.

07:18Backstage brought such mind-jarring photos like Natalya hugging Minoru Suzuki, and CM Punk

07:24Braun Strowman, Nia Jax and WWE President Nick Khan watching from the production area.

07:30The same day Drew McIntyre posted the picture working out with AEW star Brian Cage.

07:36Just two years ago, I would never have thought this could be happening.

07:39It should be Tony Khan hanging out at the indie shows, AEW wrestlers who are getting to wrestle

07:44in fun places to help raise the overall scene.

07:47But it's WWE, and it comes amidst one of AEW's worst weeks since last summer.

07:53Wednesday's viewership for AEW Dynamite was scarcely better than last week's, which

07:57was already the lowest it's been in years.

08:00Pulling in 752,000 viewers with a 0.2318-49 demo rating.

08:06For context, that's not far off the same week's 0.2 demo rating for NXT.

08:11Although that got significantly lower overall viewership at 641,000.

08:16Despite adding Okada, Osprey and Monet to their roster, and in my opinion, having their best

08:21run of television since early 2022, mainly around the swerve Joe Hangman storyline, AEW

08:27Dynamite has found its viewership stall at a low level.

08:30It comes at the worst possible time for the promotion's long term future.

08:34As Tony Khan has revealed, AEW's exclusive negotiating window for a new TV deal with Warner

08:40Bros Discovery expires soon.

08:42Ideally, you'd want as strong ratings as possible to leverage more money from that deal.

08:47For more context though, even at these low figures, AEW is still very valuable programming,

08:52as it frequently positions highly in overall rankings.

08:55It's just a lot of the AEW business plan appears to be based on getting a significant

09:00increase in their next TV deal.

09:02Wednesday's episode opened on a divisive rah-rah speech from Adam Copeland, preaching

09:06positivity in wrestling, which is widely thought to be in response to CM Punk's shoot interview

09:11with Ariel Hawane on Monday.

09:13Khan himself was asked about Punk's comments on the Ring of Honor media call yesterday,

09:17but he declined to comment.

09:19He should have also declined to comment, or at least give non-controversial answers, on

09:23a few other things too, as he started talking about AEW's recent batch of talent releases.

09:29AEW always position themselves as a promotion where if you have a contract, you don't have

09:34to worry about losing your job out of nowhere in the middle of its term.

09:37That's a WWE thing, if you're signed for three years, you're signed for three years.

09:43Tony is a man of his word.

09:45And they stuck for that for their five year history.

09:47The only time talent ever left AEW was either being fired due to cause, or when their contracts

09:53expired.

09:54That changed on Monday, when the promotion released ten names, mostly from their Ring of Honor

09:59brand.

10:00Khan explained the reasoning behind the sudden shift in philosophy on the media call, saying,

10:04this isn't budget cuts, it's actually budget expansion.

10:07He's going to spend even more money on top three agents like Ospreay, Okada and Monet

10:12this year.

10:13For instance, Becky Lynch, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus all reportedly might be up for grabs

10:17imminently.

10:18And to do so, he needs a war chest of funds.

10:21War chest.

10:22Which is why the cuts were made.

10:25Far From The Boys Rather than not address the specific reasonings

10:28for each talent release, Khan revealed why The Boys, twin wrestlers Brandon and Brent Tate,

10:33the long running backdrop for Dalton Castle, were let go.

10:36They didn't show up for work on more than one occasion, and it's not acceptable.

10:40I think the whole locker room knew about it, and you can't do that.

10:43And that's it.

10:44And that's why I had to make a tough call.

10:47Which made The Boys reply on X, Far From True, Stay Tuned, and Oh It's Like That,

10:53Stand By.

10:58The most controversial of the releases, however, was Anthony Henry, who was currently out injured

11:03with a broken jaw.

11:04Even Vince McMahon's WWE would rarely cut wrestlers who were on the shelf, and now Khan

11:09appears to have backpedalled on his decision to release him.

11:12Any time anybody gets injured in AEW or Ring of Honor I feel responsible, and when it happens

11:18on the independents, it's a challenging grey area.

11:21I've had a little bit of time to reflect and think about it, Anthony's going to be

11:24healing up soon, and I've thought about it, and Anthony's going to come back to

11:28AEW and ROH when he's cleared, which is going to be pretty soon.
