Born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in East Orange, Vanessa M. Chattman's early life was shaped by discipline and determination. After graduating from Clifford J. Scott High School in 1989, she enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving on active duty for nearly five years and deploying to Desert Storm in 1990. It was during her time overseas that the seeds of storytelling began to take root. “I started researching how to write poetry, screenplays, and novels while stationed abroad,” she recalls. “That’s when I knew I wanted to become a published author.”
Her literary debut came years later with, "The Black Sea of Roses: A Novel (Book 1)", published in 2019. The book introduced readers to a chilling world of haunted cabins, secret passageways, and psychological suspense. It wasn’t just a horror novel, it was a supernatural experience, crafted with the precision of someone who understands the power of the supernatural realm. The book quickly gained traction, earning praise for its originality and cinematic quality.
Building on her first horror series Novel, Vanessa M. Chattman released "The Black Sea of Roses: A Novel (The Antique Shop, Book 2)" in 2021. Set in a haunted antique shop in upstate New York, the story weaves Civil War history with supernatural terror, showcasing her ability to blend historical fiction with horror. The book is now available on major platforms including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Spotify, and Google Play Books.
But Vanessa M. Chattman's creative reach extends far beyond novels. She’s a published poet with works featured in multiple anthologies, including "The Poetic Voices of America" and "Beginnings". In 1997, and she was inducted into the International Poetry Hall of Fame, solidifying her place in the literary world. Her screenplay "ZEROX CODES" and play *Street Gigs", and the release of The Poetry Series published by The Dorrance Publishing Company in 2020 which further demonstrate her versatility across storytelling
