00:00So the Surrey Summer Safer Streets initiative has been going really really well we've been
00:04working with partners including obviously the local borough council there's been some work as
00:08well with with county council also with adult social care and other services and it's really
00:13really good to be working today with our local MP Will Forster talking to the police force and
00:18talking to obviously the policing minister about the difference that visible policing is making
00:24out and about in our community talking to local shopkeepers as well and I know that Will's got a
00:28lot of experience as well with speaking to constituents speaking to local businesses about
00:32it yes so I'm the former deputy leader of Wokingborough council and the fact that your neighbourhood team
00:36from the police is co-located with the council really ensures that the council and the police
00:40work so well together trying to keep working as safe as it possibly can so policing and crime isn't
00:45the top issue in my postbag there are other issues there but it is a concern to people and we've had
00:50a really good tour around the town centre today yeah so as police and crime commissioner obviously
00:54policing and crime is the issue that people come and talk to me about whether it's at residence
00:58meetings whether it's hearing from obviously MPs like Will and other MPs in the county and I know
01:03that anti-social behaviour is something that people are worried about they are concerned about it but
01:08it's why initiatives like this are so important because I know that seeing police out and about on
01:11the streets it does deal with it it's a really really good preventative tool and it means that
01:16people are reassured as well by seeing that presence and also understanding that if something does happen
01:21they can come and report it to police and see something done about it
01:25the council are a really really important and crucial part of our partnership work that we do
01:30within Surrey police and as PCC and obviously Will as a former councillor has an awful lot of experience
01:35around this but we couldn't do it without the council because so many of the problems that we've
01:38been talking about everything from serious violence right the way down to anti-social behaviour has got more
01:43than just a policing requirement to it if we're going to prevent these crimes and we think you know we think about
01:48domestic abuse as well or serious sexual abuse all of these things require a real partnership approach
01:53well you did an awful lot of work when you were on the council around these areas as well
01:56yeah no so the police and the council do work really well together and Woking and Surrey is
02:01very safe but that's thanks to a lot of the colleagues that that work for you have done
02:06thank you
02:11you
02:15you
