00:00:00There's a shot, and he's deflected behind for a little one.
00:00:03It was just a mix-up between the two of them, wasn't it?
00:00:06They had a chance to really attack it, but it wasn't a lot of conviction in the head up.
00:00:18Third corner today for Crystal Palace, and it's going to be the England international,
00:00:23Adam Wharton, again.
00:00:30He's got his head to the fore, but directed it straight at Liverpool's goalkeeper.
00:00:41He's got to go back across, Fletch, I think Mateta's got a tap in.
00:00:45He'd have been offside right enough, but he's got to go back across with the header anyway.
00:00:54The car plays it forward, as he was just looking along the line,
00:00:58as he might have been offside.
00:01:28St Milos, Kerkhez, as you can see there, it's been a good five minutes or so
00:01:38for Crystal Palace in terms of having possession.
00:01:41They've got it back again here, given away by Sabozlai, they've got runners,
00:01:44it's Wharton, now it's Eza looking to make room, and it's a good save by Alisson.
00:01:49It was, again.
00:01:51Big goalkeeper stands up, I think he might save with his right foot.
00:02:01A little slack ball from Glob is live.
00:02:05Well onside, comes back onto his left, strikes it well.
00:02:09It's a big hand, it's an arm, whether it comes off his right foot, I'm not sure,
00:02:12but it's a good save either way.
00:02:14It's been a really competitive game, hasn't it?
00:02:1662 minutes gone, Liverpool with the lead, but only by the one goal,
00:02:20but there's been a lot of attacking play out there from both of these teams.
00:02:26If it were level at 90 minutes, it would go straight to a penalty shootout,
00:02:29there's no extra time here today.
00:02:32It's been pretty common in recent editions of this Community Shield.
00:02:39Jones for Liverpool, now Frimpock.
00:02:41The system says it didn't go, it's gone now, throw in to Crystal Palace.
00:02:53They had a bit of ball, hadn't they?
00:02:55I think they've got a taste for Wembley, you know the Palace fans, Ali.
00:03:01And it's one of those days where if you have got your shirts off it's fine,
00:03:03it's not Newcastle in the middle of winter.
00:03:11I think there's one or two behind that goal on their left,
00:03:28I said they were looking forward to being away there in Europe as well.
00:03:31I would agree, I would agree.
00:03:38As we mentioned earlier, the outcome, the decision is expected from
00:03:43the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Monday,
00:03:47after a very lengthy appeal hearing in Switzerland on Friday,
00:03:51that was attended by the Crystal Palace chairman and the legal team of Palace.
00:03:56So we await the outcome of that, that's going to affect Crystal Palace
00:03:58and Nottingham Forest in the coming season.
00:04:02I guess with the defending there for Liverpool,
00:04:06he needed a bit of help though from Subozlai as well.
00:04:25Do you go as far as to say that maybe for the first time this afternoon,
00:04:28they genuinely got the upper hand here Crystal Palace?
00:04:30Yeah, the last ten minutes or so, I don't know if there's any doubt about it.
00:04:36Obviously they're offside here, they're from Saar and Ezra's shot on the left foot.
00:04:42There's St Walton, who's a growing influence on things in central midfield.
00:04:46Don't mean them at all.
00:04:49That's it with the ball in, and there's Alisson, who's having a strong game in goal for Liverpool.
00:04:53He is front-ponging the move now, watch him go now.
00:04:58Sorry, it works. Dispossessed by Marguerite here.
00:05:01He's wanting a free kick, isn't he?
00:05:02Yeah.
00:05:04Turned over the top there by Warton, hoping that Mettettel was spinning behind.
00:05:08It's interesting though, from an Alisson perspective,
00:05:10because they've got Marbadash Milley as well now, the Georgian who hasn't come to sit on the bench.
00:05:16He wants to start, he's in a good opportunity for him.
00:05:19I was suggesting we have to for a while.
00:05:22If that fella plays like he did the night we saw him in Paris, he could forget all about it.
00:05:26Goalkeeping performance of the season.
00:05:29Yes.
00:05:30Yeah.
00:05:32He was remarkable that night, that.
00:05:33Yeah.
00:05:34There's the Liverpool bench, there's Alexis McAllister, looks like he's getting himself ready.
00:05:43Harvey Elliott in the background, they've got Chiesa, Robertson, it's a strong Liverpool bench,
00:05:48even without Ryan Gravenberg, he'll be suspended by the way for the opening league game,
00:05:51because he was sent off on the final day against Crystal Palace, so he could have played today,
00:05:55but hasn't, and won't be able to play in the opener at Anfield on Friday.
00:06:00They wait until Sunday, don't they, Crystal Palace, they've got a London derby,
00:06:03the first of many against Chelsea.
00:06:10Jones on the pressure from Mattetti, we get the free kick for a little pull.
00:06:13I wonder how Crystal Palace strike it.
00:06:15Just thinking, Dan, as well, there's a lot of unknowns, I just wonder how Chelsea will do that.
00:06:21They did superbly well, obviously, in America in the summer there.
00:06:26Will it have a little bit of an effect on them in terms of this season's campaign?
00:06:32That's a good play from Hughes, I think it's already significant though,
00:06:36that they've lost Colwell to the Achilles tendon, or the ACL injury by Achilles tendon,
00:06:41the ACL, second one of the pre-season with James Madison as well.
00:06:45I know.
00:06:46I know.
00:06:50Wattaro Endo is strict as well for Liverpool, so it looks like two changes are on their way,
00:06:57two midfield players.
00:06:58Wattaro Endo goes to Watton and then back to Richards.
00:07:12Looks after the ball so well, doesn't he, Watton?
00:07:14Really tidy in possession.
00:07:19And always looks forward, which I like about him as well.
00:07:23His first thought is to look forward.
00:07:25Killed by Ezra to Gahey, and it goes down to Hughes, now Richards.
00:07:33Daniel Munoz, now Lacroix.
00:07:43Watton not really given a chance there, and then Burns plays it through towards Salah,
00:07:53and that little bit of that extra acceleration there from Mark Gahey was vital.
00:07:57Yeah.
00:07:59Added to the fact, I think the ball was just drifting away from Salah to the left position as well,
00:08:05with good confidence on Gahey.
00:08:08Florian Burns with a chance!
00:08:10And he's usually so much better in positions like that.
00:08:14It's a poor effort, it's a poor effort.
00:08:18He's allowed too much, far too much space in the centre of the pitch there, into the bargain.
00:08:25Leaning back, horrible finish.
00:08:29So there is Endo and McAllister, there's Giafardi Van Bronckhorst down there as well,
00:08:35in addition to the Liverpool coaching staff this season.
00:08:38Talking to them there on the pitch before the game, great to see them.
00:08:47I think they'll take the opportunity for the drinks break as well at this point.
00:08:51So it gives us the chance to tell you about the football coming up Wednesday night,
00:09:00the UEFA Super Cup between the Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain,
00:09:04and the Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur.
00:09:07And then the first Premier League game of the season is on Saturday.
00:09:11Usual start time, 11 o'clock, kick-off at half past 12.
00:09:14It's at Villa Park between Aston Villa and Newcastle.
00:09:19And the football line-up on TNT Sports this season is not normal.
00:09:22We've got 52 Premier League matches, 529 games from UEFA's club competitions,
00:09:28as well as the most extensive ever coverage of the Emirates FA Cup and the Adobe Women's FA Cup.
00:09:34And if that's not enough, we've got season-long action from Serie A as well.
00:09:39So there's an awful lot of football coming your way in the next nine and a half months or so.
00:09:47Let's have a look at the goals so far today, Ali, starting off with Eketike's inside four minutes.
00:09:52Yeah, it's a beautiful shot, takes it on the turn.
00:09:56Drifts away from the goalkeeper there, Van Dijk just catches Sarr, doesn't he?
00:10:02Competent finish.
00:10:05It's the goalkeeper's left-hand side there.
00:10:09That one there is bizarre, absolutely bizarre, Fringpong won't mind.
00:10:14It's just the outside of his right foot which causes it to spin,
00:10:19catches Dean Henderson off-guard and goes in at the back post.
00:10:39Some of the Liverpool changes.
00:10:41We've seen that Curtis Jones and Hugo Eketike go off Alexis McAllister and Wataru Endo, come on.
00:10:54I think having enjoyed 70 minutes of Hugo Eketike, I'm quite looking forward to the next 70 I think.
00:10:59Me too, me too.
00:11:02I'm just gonna look and see what shape they're gonna go into Liverpool now we're taking.
00:11:06That man in your picture off, he'll play through the middle.
00:11:11Just on Curtis Jones, you can see in the picture there, he's finished today by completing 53 out of 53 passes for Liverpool.
00:11:20As auditions go for a deep-lying central midfield role, you can't do a lot more.
00:11:23Yeah, definitely.
00:11:24So Bosleye with the shot, that just bounced in front of Henderson who did well to hold it.
00:11:32You can't beat competition for places though, can you? The deeper the squad gets...
00:11:36Of course that.
00:11:36That makes us love it, so many competitions that they're going to be planning on being involved in.
00:11:41Yeah, well it's very much required now.
00:11:50Looks like 4-2-2.
00:11:52I'm looking for Salah and Gak where they're going wide.
00:11:59Toggers lie and Virsa have moved forward.
00:12:06I think they were playing about a number nine at this moment in time.
00:12:09They're going to see one of the new Crystal Palace players as well,
00:12:18Borla Sosa, and he's going to come on to replace Tyrik Mitchell.
00:12:23Frimpong is down injured for Liverpool, and it just looks like he's in a bit of pain down there as well.
00:12:29Landed awkwardly it seems, and they're going to kick it out so he can have some immediate treatment.
00:12:33I'm just wondering if Adam Watten catches him here with his studs.
00:12:42We'll get a look at it.
00:12:42Yeah, it might well be that.
00:12:44Yeah, let me see it.
00:12:47Ooh, yeah.
00:12:47Ooh, yeah.
00:12:51Let me see it.
00:12:52Ooh, that'd be quite painful I would have thought.
00:12:55If they wore shin pads in any significant size, it would reduce the risk of that happening,
00:13:13and they wouldn't stop it altogether.
00:13:14Yeah.
00:13:16Not a greater level of protection.
00:13:18They're not much bigger than a lamb chop these days, are they, the shin pads?
00:13:25Looks like he's going to be OK.
00:13:35Is that the worry for a manager this close to the season,
00:13:38that you lose somebody really late?
00:13:40Of course it has.
00:13:41You've been in that position.
00:13:43You just want to get through the game, not be scared.
00:13:47All the plans are in place, aren't they now?
00:13:49Yeah.
00:13:55Liverpool totally changed that shape now.
00:13:58They can take, he's been taken off.
00:14:00As you see there, Salah's on the right-hand side.
00:14:03Gak will come in a little bit on the left, but no out-and-out man through the middle.
00:14:12That's bringing Mitchell into the game.
00:14:1516 minutes of normal time to go.
00:14:17Get a good start.
00:14:43There's the clock.
00:14:44Daryl Richards.
00:15:10Adam Wharton.
00:15:14There's space out there at the moment, Ali, for Crystal Tallis.
00:15:32No.
00:15:34They've got plenty of room here, in this position here,
00:15:40taking the number nine off,
00:15:42but all it means is they're reinforcing it from the running of the field,
00:15:46and make them harder to play through.
00:15:48The ball up here towards Munoz.
00:15:53He heads it on, but that was well read by McAllister.
00:15:56We've got them in front of Ismail Assar.
00:15:59Crystal Tallis can make the change now.
00:16:01They could have looked like they'd not taken the throw in quickly.
00:16:05I think he was all set there for the Sosa.
00:16:10Lacroix.
00:16:14Mark Gahy.
00:16:15Again the target.
00:16:18Munoz on that side, again Liverpool winning the header.
00:16:21Oh!
00:16:22No foul though, here's Wharton,
00:16:24and he plays it on here for Ismail Assar!
00:16:27And that's 2-2.
00:16:29And he celebrates in front of the Crystal Palace supporters,
00:16:35and the semi-final Wembley hero against Aston Villa
00:16:38delivers today in the Community Shield.
00:16:44Van Dijk.
00:16:45I don't know where the big fella's going.
00:16:47I don't know where the big fella's going.
00:16:50He steps out, and I think he wants the rest of the lads to step out with him.
00:16:54I know Frimpong's probably in a position that plays him onside,
00:16:59but if Van Dijk doesn't go out,
00:17:02he can handle the pass through.
00:17:04His body momentum takes away,
00:17:06there's no way he's getting back.
00:17:08Listen, it's a great finish.
00:17:09Lovely touch, great pass, great finish.
00:17:12But watch Van Dijk.
00:17:14There he goes there.
00:17:18His momentum as he steps out,
00:17:20there's no way he's getting back.
00:17:22That's a lovely pass, that's a lovely touch, and that's a lovely finish.
00:17:26Well, it's not the first time he's scored against Liverpool.
00:17:29He's now got four in seven against them, Ismail Assar.
00:17:32I remember getting a double of goals to Watford player against Liverpool,
00:17:36and he had his best-scoring season in Premier League terms,
00:17:39and Oliver Glasner really enjoyed that,
00:17:41and so did the Palace supporters behind the goal,
00:17:43because he took that away quite brilliantly,
00:17:45but Liverpool defensively will look at their shape.
00:17:48A little shake of the head from the captain, Virgil van Dijk,
00:17:51and it's 2-2 now, Ali, with 12 minutes to go.
00:17:53Yeah.
00:17:56And they're going to make the change as well,
00:17:58they're going to take off Mitchell and send on a new signing.
00:18:00Borna Sosa, who they spent ÂŁ3 million on from Ajax in July,
00:18:06he's a Croatia international,
00:18:08didn't really work out for him in Amsterdam,
00:18:10so he's made the move now to Crystal Palace to see if it works out any better.
00:18:14It's also worth mentioning, my friend,
00:18:20that he was just commenting on how Palace played the last 10-15 minutes.
00:18:25Absolutely.
00:18:27You can't really say it's been a shock.
00:18:29No.
00:18:34So 2-2, and the prospect of penalties in the community shield rears its head once again,
00:18:40but it's Crystal Palace at the moment, the team with the momentum.
00:18:43First touch to Sosa, there's her.
00:18:53It's not a bad ball in, there might be it again here, Palace,
00:18:55and the deflection takes it over,
00:18:57and I thought for a moment there, Sarr had done it again.
00:19:00He's wanting the handball, isn't he?
00:19:02He's claiming for the handball,
00:19:04but boy, oh boy, have Liverpool looked vulnerable?
00:19:07Not a handball, I don't see your handball on that shoulder.
00:19:13I think it's before, you know, I think it's off McAllister when the cross first comes in,
00:19:16it's not there.
00:19:17It's earlier in the move.
00:19:19When the cross came in for the box, McAllister's arm is high.
00:19:22That's what they're looking at, Ali.
00:19:24Here it is, watch McAllister.
00:19:30Yeah, yeah.
00:19:32Definitely touches it with his arm, doesn't he?
00:19:34There.
00:19:36See what it is, it's a great challenge.
00:19:42Yeah.
00:19:43Superb challenge, because it cares if it's in there.
00:19:45I don't think there's any doubt it hits his hand.
00:19:54He's had a look and he's cleared in.
00:20:08So it's just the corner for Crystal Palace.
00:20:12But again, we don't get the opportunity to hear Chris Kavanagh on the right.
00:20:17The guys are discussing it down there with the fourth official, Tony Harrington,
00:20:21so in the meantime, Sosa's gonna take the corner inside the final ten minutes.
00:20:25In Crystal Palace right now, the team finishing stronger.
00:20:31Constantly by Van Dijk, as far as Hughes, he sends it back into the Liverpool box,
00:20:35it was blocked in there by Kanata.
00:20:37He's done really well since coming on to replace Kamata,
00:20:40was in there to make the tackle.
00:20:42Yeah, he has.
00:20:47So I think we're in agreement, I think it definitely touched McAllister's arm,
00:20:49but we're also in agreement it was a superb challenge to prevent the goal.
00:20:52Yes, absolutely.
00:20:54There's Harvey Elliott, the star of England's European Championship success
00:20:58at under-21 level in the summer, one of the stars.
00:21:02There were quite a few, Sean Brightly, in that competition.
00:21:04Whether he's gonna be a Liverpool player by the time the window closes remains to be seen,
00:21:08but it's certainly gonna be needed today.
00:21:13I must say, Ali, I've really enjoyed the game.
00:21:15Yeah.
00:21:18No getting away from it, thoroughly enjoyable.
00:21:21Liverpool have dominated for long periods, but Palace have certainly played their part.
00:21:26Having said that, I think people get sick of the fact that they're saying,
00:21:29I've really enjoyed it today.
00:21:30There aren't many games that we don't enjoy, for being honest.
00:21:33Yeah, but anyhow, it's 52.
00:21:36Sosa wins his header,
00:21:41Hezart looking to get the better key of Endo, wanted the free kick which he didn't get.
00:21:45Liverpool just need to rediscover the mojo here, don't we?
00:21:49Yeah.
00:21:50They're a little bit flat at the moment, they've lost that spark, Liverpool.
00:21:53Certainly lost a bit of composure.
00:21:59Gakto, Savoslai,
00:22:01raving forward now is Kerkhez with the cross, Salah coming on to it!
00:22:05Straight to the goalkeeper, either side, it's 3-2 Liverpool.
00:22:08Ah, correct.
00:22:09Correct.
00:22:11He'll be disappointed that he doesn't direct to either side.
00:22:16For him, that's a golden opportunity to go and win the game.
00:22:30It feels like there's a big moment still, in it, before we finish.
00:22:34It's quite an open game now, isn't it?
00:22:36There's a lot of tired players out there.
00:22:38Launched forward by Lacroix,
00:22:47looked towards his smile as Saar, flicked on towards Munoz.
00:22:53Good challenge on him by Kerkhez,
00:22:55and now it's going to break here for Saar.
00:22:57And Crystal Palace on the move.
00:23:01It's going to be pulled back here for Mateta!
00:23:03Needed more composure, he's got so much more time than that.
00:23:06He's got to take a touch there, has to take a touch,
00:23:09because he's standing, and he's kind of off-balance as the ball comes back there.
00:23:13Lovely move.
00:23:14Saar again on the right-hand side,
00:23:15how positive has he been second half?
00:23:17He holds his position well, Mateta,
00:23:19but he has to take a touch.
00:23:21There's no way that he's getting that in contact with any power,
00:23:24because of his body shape.
00:23:25Take a touch, get it out, either right-hand side striker or left-hand side striker.
00:23:30So here comes Travis Elliott to Florian Birch, your thoughts on what you've seen from him today, Ali?
00:23:39We've enjoyed on particularly the first half, Darren, you can see obviously quality throughout his game, the first 45 minutes.
00:23:53He's gonna be a sign-in for Liverpool, I can tell you.
00:23:57And Robertson coming on for Kirkes as well, sorry, what a situation that is,
00:24:02with your two left-backs around Lee Robertson and Milos Kirkes.
00:24:05And we're also gonna see Jefferson Lerma for Adam Waterton, I know you've enjoyed him today, Waterton.
00:24:09He's been terrific.
00:24:11I think he comes in for the equation for Man of the Match, I really do.
00:24:15He's been excellent, excellent.
00:24:17I'll tell you what, you know, Jefferson Lerma, I think, will be happy to get back into the midfield,
00:24:24because he played a lot of last season as a centre-back in a back three, didn't he?
00:24:27But he's a midfielder first and foremost, and he's back in there now for Crystal Palace.
00:24:30Yeah, he did absolutely fine there, but I take your point totally.
00:24:33So in towards the last five and a half minutes here at Wembley,
00:24:40Oliver Glaston's first touch not great, but he tried to redeem himself with the little flick,
00:24:45saw the funny side as well.
00:24:47I'm not sure he gets away with that.
00:24:50He was big enough though to acknowledge that it didn't quite go the way it was anticipated.
00:24:56Van Dijk forward for Liverpool, but that's far too far in front of Salah,
00:25:03in a relatively quiet half with Dean Henderson.
00:25:16Decepted by McAllister, up by Elliott to Salah, Jeremy Fimple.
00:25:23It's a really good tress at this late stage of the match, isn't it, from Crystal Palace.
00:25:39Check the words out of my mouth there.
00:25:43As mentioned, it's been a very, very hot afternoon as well.
00:25:47A few tired legs, but certainly the energy level's not closing down.
00:25:50Period there from Palace was excellent.
00:26:02Tried only there to Endo, and now Elliott.
00:26:04Fimple charged over there by Sosa.
00:26:22Four minutes left of a 90 here.
00:26:23On a sunny day at Wembley, 2-2 between Crystal Palace and Liverpool in the Community Shield.
00:26:28Liverpool have been ahead twice, but on both occasions Crystal Palace have managed to get themselves back on terms.
00:26:34Oh, the Elliott with the lay-off, it's all congested there, there's no real room for Liverpool to play in.
00:26:43Now they go wide here to Salah.
00:26:50Two or three ricochets in there, but Ezzer can bring it away.
00:26:53Three kick conceded by Salah, who's going to get a card for it.
00:27:02This gives him a lot of jogging his buy-on, doesn't it?
00:27:06It stops the momentum.
00:27:08Do you think if there is going to be a team like we saw from Nottingham Forest last season,
00:27:22just to go and challenge those at the top end, it could be Crystal Palace based on what they've got if they keep the team together?
00:27:27In normal circumstances, I would say yes, but I'm not sure with European football.
00:27:36And you know the logic on that.
00:27:37Yes.
00:27:40But it wouldn't surprise me at all.
00:27:42No, certainly get the impression they could be better.
00:27:44Oh, yeah.
00:27:45What a talent in the team, but they're getting better and better in the glass, aren't they?
00:27:49And they're organised, they've got good shape, everybody knows their jobs.
00:27:53Yeah.
00:27:54A lot to like about Palace.
00:27:57Yeah.
00:28:07That's it, Robertson.
00:28:18That's the boss lie, Alexis McAllister.
00:28:22To pick out Frimpong, which he did with the magnificent ball.
00:28:25Here's the ball, here's Elliott.
00:28:30Canate.
00:28:35I think there's going to be at least five minutes out of Domus.
00:28:38Robertson look to try and get Cody Gaffo in down that side.
00:28:41It's Daniel Munoz, that's going to be a free kick for a handball.
00:28:55I think if he does go to penalties, both goalkeepers will be relatively confident.
00:29:15Dean Henderson loves to shoot out, loves saving penalties, he's got a good record.
00:29:20Of course, Alisson's one of the best in the business, full stop, whatever you ask him to do.
00:29:24I certainly feel since they took Ekotique off the loft for Liverpool,
00:29:37which is a lot to say based on the fact he's only still binding his feet,
00:29:40but he was such a danger when he was out there to Crystal Palace.
00:29:46Ooh!
00:29:47That was a cool one, didn't he, Hughes.
00:29:52Here's Ezzet.
00:29:56He'll provide the late spark here for Crystal Palace, now Lerma.
00:30:00Hughes.
00:30:02Now Gahy's down, sat on the pitch inside his own half,
00:30:05although just getting back to his feet, whether that's a cramp issue.
00:30:08Hughes plays it forward, Sosa's coming in and lifts it straight into the gloves of Alisson,
00:30:18as we move into five minutes of stoppage time,
00:30:20and now there's all kinds of space for the Liverpool substitute.
00:30:23Look at here.
00:30:24Harvey Elliott.
00:30:25On it goes to Salah,
00:30:26Siposlai charging through the middle for Liverpool,
00:30:28Salah twisting and turning, great, defended by Lacroix.
00:30:31It had to be.
00:30:33Matt Gahy's really struggling to look.
00:30:36The last thing he needed was an attack down his left-hand side,
00:30:39Liverpool's right, it's the last thing he needed.
00:30:41Played in behind him there.
00:30:50He fancied Salah to come in.
00:30:52Good defending, very good defending.
00:30:55So it's whether they desist with Marguet here,
00:31:04whether they decide to make a change,
00:31:06there's no sign of one at the moment,
00:31:07although I think somebody is now getting changed.
00:31:11Whip the top off quickly.
00:31:19That's Justin Deveni,
00:31:21so they're just gonna see whether Marguet can see it through,
00:31:24although the indications were that he was really struggling,
00:31:26but Oliver Glaster right now is not gonna make the change.
00:31:33So Liverpool corner,
00:31:35Canate and Van Dijk in the middle,
00:31:38it's a really good header by Lacroix.
00:31:40Still not away, there's the shot,
00:31:42now went Henderson.
00:31:43Dominic Siposlai not quite getting enough power on that.
00:31:46It's quite an evil substitution, surely.
00:31:49Somehow managed to find Saar with a mis-kick there, Ali.
00:31:59Sometimes it's your day.
00:32:01Reminded me, you're seven iron now.
00:32:04Yeah, my shacks don't go there.
00:32:06Now Gahey sat down again on the pitch just outside his own box,
00:32:10I mean, he's crazy really, just put the ball out of play and take him off.
00:32:13Yeah.
00:32:14Well done Will Hughes.
00:32:15It's a day that won't be forgotten.
00:32:18The youngsters here today enjoying the sunshine, enjoying the football,
00:32:22it's been a good game, four goals, Eketike and Frimpong for Liverpool.
00:32:24Mateta and Saar for Crystal Palace.
00:32:27Tried and tested players for the FA Cup and as new players for the league champions.
00:32:30And on the way, they've been a good game.
00:32:31It's a day that won't be forgotten.
00:32:33It's a day that won't be forgotten.
00:32:34The youngsters here today enjoying the sunshine, enjoying the football,
00:32:39it's been a good game, four goals, Eketike and Frimpong for Liverpool,
00:32:44Mateta and Saar for Crystal Palace.
00:32:47Tried and tested players for the FA Cup and as new players for the league champions,
00:32:53and Oliver Klaas are taking the opportunity here, Ali,
00:32:56just to dish out one or two last-minute thoughts.
00:32:58Deep in to stop its time, though.
00:32:59Yeah.
00:33:02You'd be surprised now if it's not penalty kicks,
00:33:04but you can see he's just wanting his team and his boys to concentrate fully
00:33:09for the remaining four or five minutes, whatever it may be.
00:33:14So the fact that Marquet is smiling would indicate something too serious as he leads the pitch.
00:33:18It looked like about a crap that he couldn't get rid of.
00:33:21Yeah.
00:33:22Don't need him now until Sunday, the week today, Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
00:33:29He's getting the best round of 51, Justin Delaney.
00:33:37Just a reminder, we will go straight to penalties at full-time,
00:33:41there is no extra time, which is a good thing in the Community Shield,
00:33:44the last thing the teams want at this stage is half an hour more.
00:33:47I always think in the Super Cup they should do something similar, indeed.
00:33:51Looking forward to that one, by the way, on Wednesday night, CSG against Tottenham.
00:33:56It should be relatively straightforward if Tottenham were watching Chelsea against them.
00:34:05Didn't they do a number on Chelsea?
00:34:06I tell you what, didn't they just?
00:34:08One last chance here for Liverpool, dying moments, here's Robertson,
00:34:11plenty of room ahead of him down the Liverpool left.
00:34:13Whips the ball in towards Mo Salah, good goalkeeping Henderson,
00:34:17who came flying off his line to get there.
00:34:19Yeah, they shot up the other end with Alisson two minutes ago, Henderson equaled to it.
00:34:25Any hesitancy at all, he's got a problem.
00:34:29Flying off his line does really well.
00:34:38As they're running into Endo, a crowd of Liverpool players around in the last touch of Crystal Palace one,
00:34:44which is probably going to take us to penalties.
00:34:49Hugo Eketike after four minutes for Liverpool,
00:34:54Mateta's penalty, the equaliser after Van Dijk had fouled Saar.
00:34:57Frimpong after 20 minutes with the Liverpool supporters applauding there,
00:35:02late number 20 Diogo Jota,
00:35:04and then the second half goal in off the post from Ismaila Saar.
00:35:09Which means we're 2-2 here in the community shield,
00:35:13and the game has provided plenty of attacking moments here at Wembley.
00:35:19Hughes, Eza, last chance for Palace, on it goes towards Deveny with the shot!
00:35:25Oh, it would have been the super sub!
00:35:28If you score with your first touch off the bench at Wembley, it's some story,
00:35:31he wasn't that far away from doing it.
00:35:33He's having a smile and not so he should.
00:35:36Tidy football, you're right to mention Hughes, he's done ever so well since he's come on.
00:35:42Weight of the pass is perfect from Eza, not too far away.
00:35:47Goalie might have had it covered, probably did, but good effort.
00:35:53There he is, he thought it was going in, didn't he?
00:35:55The margins are fine.
00:36:04So there's the full-time whistle, and we're all square at 2-2 after 90 minutes at Wembley.
00:36:10And the community shield will be decided by the penalty shootout, and that comes next.
00:36:17We've had great drama so far in this community shield at Wembley, and it will continue because we're going to penalties.
00:36:34This was the moment that Palace decided, no, no, we're not done yet.
00:36:38Liverpool were looking to add another addition to their trophy cabinet.
00:36:41Ismail Assar had other plans, the equaliser 2-2.
00:36:45And we get to see more of this brilliant, eventful game in the sunshine today.
00:36:49We go to penalties.
00:36:51So guys, alongside me, Maka, just tell me a little bit about what Liverpool need to do
00:36:57and how experienced or how positive you think they are with penalties.
00:37:01Well, I think in cup finals over the last couple of years, they've been very positive, particularly when they played Chelsea.
00:37:06They seem to play Chelsea on a number of occasions.
00:37:08They go to penalties, and they were successful on a number of occasions.
00:37:11So I don't think it'll necessarily phase Liverpool, of course.
00:37:14But there's different players.
00:37:15It's going to be down at the Liverpool end, as you saw there.
00:37:17I think it was.
00:37:18And we'll wait and see.
00:37:20But Liverpool have been here on many occasions, to be very honest.
00:37:23So I don't think it'll be a huge surprise for them.
00:37:25And let's be honest, this type of game is different than an FA Cup final, isn't it?
00:37:29Or something like that.
00:37:30Dean Henderson actually is pretty experienced with penalties here in terms of the one that he's saved in that all-important FA Cup final.
00:37:36He's quite confident, isn't he?
00:37:38Yeah, I mean, and rightly so, I think the amount of detail that he goes into.
00:37:42I was privy to it last year, seeing the keepers work and look at what players are doing.
00:37:47And he would have certainly looked through the whole squad and analysed their penalty takers and their kind of rituals and how they do things.
00:37:55So, you know, obviously, it's a tough thing to do from 12 yards out to save a penalty.
00:38:01But he'd give it his best, obviously.
00:38:03How would Palace players be feeling about going to penalties in this?
00:38:06Listen, I think you can take a lot of encouragement from that second-half performance.
00:38:09Defensively, we looked a lot stronger.
00:38:13We got after, we closed the spaces better, we pressed better.
00:38:17But we looked more composed in the final third as well and created a lot more chances.
00:38:22And, you know, I think it's a fair result thus far to come away with something.
00:38:27Yeah, Liverpool really, well, Palace really turning on the pressure, especially in those last ten minutes.
00:38:33Palace totally deserved their equaliser.
00:38:35They were in an excellent form in that second half and they deserved it.
00:38:38And let's see how they get on now.
00:38:40I mean, the experience will do, the Palace players, the world are good.
00:38:43They've got European football coming ahead of them, haven't they?
00:38:46So, why not play and practise penalties today and go out and give it your best?
00:38:50That's all you can do.
00:38:51What was it for Liverpool, you think, that kind of switched to that momentum?
00:38:55I don't know. I think it's maybe the occasion, Laura, to be very honest.
00:38:59Whether it's the heat, I don't know.
00:39:01Number of changes which affected them a little bit.
00:39:03But they've still got a strong squad and, as I said, we'll wait and see how they go now.
00:39:07They're going into the sunstroke shade, aren't they, at different times.
00:39:10In front of the Liverpool crowd, we'll see how they respond.
00:39:13Right, let's get you over to your commentary team for penalties at the Community Shield.
00:39:17Ali and Darren.
00:39:18Thanks, Laura. So, it's at the Liverpool end of Wembley in the sunshine.
00:39:22And the first man striding forward is Liverpool's talisman, Mo Salah,
00:39:28and he's being serenaded by you'll never walk alone from the Liverpool supporters inside the ground.
00:39:34Dean Henderson, who saved the penalty in the FA Cup final against Manchester City
00:39:39on the big day for Crystal Palace with the baseball cap.
00:39:43And he's got a pretty good record. He is the kind of goalkeeper, Ali, that tends to thrive in this kind of situation.
00:39:49He seems to really enjoy and embrace it.
00:39:52Well, you and I were talking when the guys were on.
00:39:55He's obviously the experience and the pleasant one.
00:39:58So, first up, it's Mo Salah for Liverpool against Dean Henderson.
00:40:03And he fires it over the bar and into the Liverpool supporters.
00:40:07And it's an early advantage here for Crystal Palace.
00:40:11I mean, wow, I just can't believe that.
00:40:15Leaning back, gets his foot underneath it.
00:40:20Just gets it all wrong.
00:40:23It happened to the best of them.
00:40:26Well, that's the second one that he's put over the bar in pre-season.
00:40:33He's set one over the bar in the friendly against Athletic Club, Mo Salah,
00:40:36so history's repeated itself.
00:40:38And now Crystal Palace hope that history repeats itself
00:40:41because Mateta scored against Alisson from the penalty spot in the first half for Crystal Palace.
00:40:47And he scores again, very nonchalantly, Jean-Philippe Mateta, the coolest man in Wembley.
00:40:57Yeah, it's a great penalty.
00:40:59Might be a crazy thing to say, I think it's better if he's first one.
00:41:03Same run-up, side foot, power in it.
00:41:08Well placed.
00:41:11So Alexis McAllister of Liverpool and Argentina, very experienced.
00:41:27He's played in a lot of big games.
00:41:29On the slot looking on Crystal Palace with the 1-0 lead.
00:41:33Taking plenty of time, McAllister, eventually steps up and Henderson saves it.
00:41:45And duffs his cap to the Crystal Palace supporters.
00:41:50And if you follow Dean Henderson's career, it's not the first time he's done that.
00:41:54Oh, I love it. I don't mean to tell you, I love it.
00:42:00I mean, he knows where he's going and it's a good save.
00:42:05He gets his connect.
00:42:07I mean, it's just the power because the position is actually quite good,
00:42:13there's just not enough power on it.
00:42:15Well, he's the Crystal Palace hero at the moment.
00:42:18Good save.
00:42:19And now Ezzer steps up, and if he does score this one, Ezzer,
00:42:21they've got a really, really strong hold on this penalty shootout, Crystal Palace.
00:42:25Deliverant run-up, little stutter step, and Alisson saves it off the post!
00:42:45Is he off his lane?
00:42:46Well, they'll take a look at it, of course.
00:42:49You've got to have one foot over the line as the penalty is struck.
00:42:53Does he encroach?
00:42:54Oh, dear me.
00:42:55I think he might, you know.
00:42:56Dear me.
00:42:57I think it might be a retake.
00:43:02Take nothing away from the team.
00:43:04Hang on, I've just heard Paul Tierney confirm the on-field decision,
00:43:09so as far as he's concerned, he's not off his line.
00:43:12Oh, man.
00:43:13Well, Paul's obviously watched it a few times.
00:43:16So, Cody Gatto sends him the wrong way, and Liverpool are level.
00:43:26Nice penalty, wasn't it?
00:43:27From Paul's...
00:43:28I'm thinking of a chat, you and I, about whether he was off his lane there or not.
00:43:41We'll let it go at the moment.
00:43:42Look, look, I thought, I mean, it looked to me as though he was, but...
00:43:46What about you?
00:43:47I'm with you.
00:43:48Yeah.
00:43:50I'm with you, mate.
00:43:51Yeah.
00:43:52So, 1-1.
00:43:54And now Ismail Asar, who scored the second Crystal Palace equaliser,
00:43:59steps forward for his penalty against Alisson, Liverpool end of Wembley.
00:44:10Oh, my word, how cool was that?
00:44:13Great penalty, look at him.
00:44:15I can't believe...
00:44:16I just can't believe that, I was gonna say, the run-up, the lack of run-up.
00:44:22What happened to the old penalty back in the day?
00:44:25Did you just run on and put your foot through it?
00:44:27Well, there are players from bygone days who would be cringed watching this.
00:44:31They used to run up and thump it, I mean, look at that.
00:44:34Perfect placement, Alec.
00:44:36Yeah, it really is.
00:44:37It really is.
00:44:38So, 2-1 Crystal Palace, and now it's Harvey Elliott with Liverpool's fourth penalty.
00:44:45Armour slot alongside Giovanni van Bronckhorst,
00:44:49and all eyes on Harvey Elliott and Dean Henderson.
00:44:52Short run-up for Elliott.
00:44:54And Henderson saves another one.
00:44:56And this time there's no doff of the cat, but that's a big save for Henderson and Crystal Palace.
00:45:05Yeah, it's not a great penalty, is it?
00:45:06In fact, it's a poor one from Harvey Elliott.
00:45:08You know, it's almost centre of the goal.
00:45:11He's got all the information on the line, that's the secret, that's the secret.
00:45:17So what a moment this is.
00:45:22Here we go, let's do it, isn't it?
00:45:23This is the new signing, Vorna Sosa, to win the match.
00:45:26But that's a big save for Henderson and Crystal Palace.
00:45:28Yeah, it's not a big penalty, is it?
00:45:29In fact, it's a poor one from Harvey Elliott.
00:45:31You know, it's almost centre of the goal.
00:45:33And he's got all the information on the line.
00:45:34Oh, yeah. That's the secret, that's the secret.
00:45:36So what a moment this is.
00:45:38Here we go, let's do it.
00:45:39This is the new signing, Vorna Sosa, to win the match.
00:45:42But that's a big save for Henderson and Crystal Palace.
00:45:44Yeah, it's not a great penalty, is it?
00:45:45Vorna Sosa to win the Community Shield at Wembley for Crystal Palace,
00:45:49up against Alisson.
00:45:50Big moment, oh, he's hit the woodwork!
00:45:52Oh, my word!
00:45:54It's another twist in the tail here in the Community Shield,
00:45:58and the new man can't deliver.
00:46:00This is unbelievable.
00:46:05Now this has got to go in now, but at the stage this has to go in.
00:46:08So at the very least, Palace have another one to win it.
00:46:11Yes.
00:46:12I thought the penalty shenanigans had all ended in the summer,
00:46:17some of those nights.
00:46:19Here we go again.
00:46:20So Dominic Subozlai with a chance to make it 2-2,
00:46:25and at least put pressure on the kicker.
00:46:28If he misses or Henderson saves it, Crystal Palace win the Community Shield.
00:46:33Subozlai to keep Liverpool alive, Henderson to be the Palace hero,
00:46:38and he scores, and didn't he score well?
00:46:41Very experienced, clinical from Subozlai.
00:46:44That's a penalty.
00:46:45Yeah.
00:46:46Whipped back across himself, great height,
00:46:50giving the goalkeeper very little or even no chance.
00:47:01Well, what about this for a story?
00:47:02Oh, yeah.
00:47:03It's Justin Deveni, who almost won the game with his first touch in normal time.
00:47:08I mean, come on for Mark Gahey.
00:47:09He's now going to take the penalty to win the Community Shield for Crystal Palace.
00:47:13Tension in the Palace end, tension in the Palace line.
00:47:27Deep breath from Deveni, who scores into the top corner,
00:47:32and after winning the FA Cup final here in May,
00:47:36Crystal Palace beat the league champions Liverpool
00:47:40and win the Community Shield.
00:47:42Justin Deveni with the all-important penalty,
00:47:45and Dean Henderson with a couple of big saves.
00:47:48Yeah, I'm going to tell you right now,
00:47:50he saved the best for last.
00:47:52What a penalty that is.
00:47:54That's unstoppable, unsaidable.
00:47:56Delighted for him.
00:47:58Just opens his body up and smashes it
00:48:01to the goalkeeper's top left-hand corner,
00:48:04giving him absolutely no chance, great pen.
00:48:07Great respect between the two goalkeepers, Henderson and Alisson,
00:48:10and Oliver Glastner's got another trophy.
00:48:12I mean, they don't get here very often, Crystal Palace,
00:48:14but they're good when they do, and they're getting a taste for it now.
00:48:17And the crowd today have had a fantastic day,
00:48:19and now they've got another big day to celebrate.
00:48:22It's a big day now for them because they've won it.
00:48:24Of course it is, absolutely.
00:48:26And probably deserved it as well.
00:48:28Great second half performance, he'll be absolutely delighted.
00:48:31And by the way, having been in a courtroom in Switzerland all Friday,
00:48:34now he can smile, Steve Parrish.
00:48:36Underestimate the job he's doing at this football club.
00:48:40Clearly loves the club.
00:48:42Well, Justin De Veni is the Crystal Palace hero.
00:48:46You can add Dean Henderson to that list as well.
00:48:48Oliver Glastner will be delighted.
00:48:50There's a warm embrace for his goalkeeper.
00:48:53It's disappointment here at Wembley today for Liverpool and for Virgil van Dijk.
00:48:59Missed penalties were a problem for them.
00:49:02And Arles Lott, who said on Friday,
00:49:04it would be nice to come today and win a trophy before the season even starts.
00:49:08They will pick themselves up because they're going to launch the Premier League season
00:49:11at Anfield on Friday against Bournemouth.
00:49:14But it's a day of celebration now for Crystal Palace and their supporters, Laura,
00:49:18because they have won, on penalties, the 2025 FA Community Shield.
00:49:27What is it about Dean Henderson, penalties and Wembley?
00:49:30Loves to be the hero, but that final penalty as well there
00:49:33was absolutely incredible, wasn't it, as well?
00:49:35And alongside Joel Ward, Joel, it's like you guys just can't stop winning now.
00:49:39Oh, honestly, it's what an amazing feeling.
00:49:42I mean, obviously the lads put in a great shift today in the second half.
00:49:46Or it ended up result.
00:49:48And to be fair, for Justin, stepping up there to take that penalty
00:49:52to win the Community Shield for us was absolutely incredible.
00:49:56What a moment for him.
00:49:57I mean, that's a lot of pressure for a young man, as the guys were saying, Maka.
00:50:00Yes, and he had a chance, didn't he, in the last couple of minutes
00:50:03when he came on for marquee?
00:50:05And the fact that he stepped up and took the deciding penalty,
00:50:08and it was one of the better penalties as well,
00:50:11hit ferociously right into the top corner of the net.
00:50:14That's how you finish a competition off.
00:50:16And he's done it really well.
00:50:18So I'm thrilled to bits for him.
00:50:20Oliver Gadsden, we said, before the game kicked off,
00:50:23when you win a trophy, the next thing you've got to do
00:50:25is follow up and win another one.
00:50:27It's the Community Shield, it's at Wembley.
00:50:29It's a day for these fans.
00:50:30They're absolutely loving it, Joel.
00:50:32What does it spell for the rest of the season?
00:50:34Listen, obviously, there's enough noise going on around the club at the moment,
00:50:38and today just gives everyone something to focus on, something to smile about.
00:50:43And what a moment to see there Justin just running into the crowd again.
00:50:47All the plauders that he deserves.
00:50:49But, yeah, absolutely incredible.
00:50:51We shouldn't be surprised that Dean Henderson does his homework.
00:50:54Keepers these days have everything they need on their bottles.
00:50:57But there's something about him that was so confident today, Maka.
00:51:00Yes, and the fact that he's already been here
00:51:03and saved a penalty in the FA Cup final,
00:51:05you expect him to do well.
00:51:07Every goalkeeper does their homework.
00:51:11And he stepped up to the mark.
00:51:13He made better saves today and Crystal Palace have gone on to deserve it.
00:51:16I think it's very nice to see them all celebrating
00:51:18and you don't begrudge them that at all.
00:51:20Liverpool fans, as much as you want to be here and bring the trophy home,
00:51:24I think Liverpool fans won't have much to complain about.
00:51:27Palace deserve to get the equaliser,
00:51:30deserve to finish 2-1,
00:51:31and then they've gone on to win the penalties.
00:51:33Yeah, all right.
00:51:34The rotation goes along.
00:51:35I mean, Ekotique, when he came off,
00:51:37the game changed a little bit, didn't it?
00:51:39I think he also could have had a hat-trick.
00:51:41They lost a little bit of the focus.
00:51:42He missed a couple of chances in the right places.
00:51:44But anybody who studied his form back in Frankfurt,
00:51:47he missed chances then.
00:51:48So, being at a better team in a better league,
00:51:51I thought he looked sharp today.
00:51:53So, you would hope, as a Liverpool fan,
00:51:55that he will improve and he will score more goals than he misses.
00:51:58But I thought he was bright today.
00:52:00And I'm sure he will.
00:52:01Listen, Liverpool have got a big season ahead of them
00:52:03and a raft of new signings.
00:52:06And it's gone a little bit quiet here at Wembley,
00:52:08and that's because we're gearing up for these guys,
00:52:10Crystal Palace, to go up those steps
00:52:12and collect themselves another bit of silverware.
00:52:15And what's actually quite lovely, Joel,
00:52:16is while you're sitting here, you're being dragged up there.
00:52:19Do you want to go up and join them?
00:52:20No.
00:52:21I mean, are we paying in by the minute here?
00:52:23Are we on the clock?
00:52:24I bet he touches the trophy by the time we come off here tonight.
00:52:29A little birdie told me the last time you lifted a trophy
00:52:31it was the 6am finish the next day,
00:52:33so I'm just wondering if you're going to go and join them.
00:52:35No, I'll try and be well-behoved today
00:52:39and stay out of the celebrations.
00:52:42But no, listen, honestly, the guys, Mark and Ebbs
00:52:46and all the guys, the whole squad, they're great guys,
00:52:49and obviously they deserve to do this.
00:52:51It's a bright history again for the club to lift a second bit of silverware.
00:52:54And obviously the gaffer, Oliver Glasner leading the way as well.
00:52:58And I think, you know, since he's come into the club,
00:53:00he's really changed the mentality and the belief within the team
00:53:03and within the club and obviously giving the fans
00:53:06something that they've never had before.
00:53:08Yeah.
00:53:09There's one thing you never get tired of, it's walking up those steps.
00:53:11Yeah, absolutely.
00:53:12I bet.
00:53:13Well, physically tired, probably.
00:53:14But this is familiar territory for him and his Crystal Palace side.
00:53:18Let's get you up to our commentary team for this trophy lift.
00:53:21It's Ali and Darren once again.
00:53:22Thank you, Laura.
00:53:23It's certainly an easier walk on the legs when you're victorious.
00:53:27Crystal Palace winning the Community Shield for the first time
00:53:30and in doing so becoming the fourth London club to win it,
00:53:33joining Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea.
00:53:35They're the first club to win it outright for the first time
00:53:38since Nottingham Forest back in 1978.
00:53:41So it's a momentous day for them.
00:53:43And it's the culmination really, Ali, of a fantastic three months FA Cup with us.
00:53:49And then here they are again, walking up the steps to receive the trophy again at Wembley.
00:53:53Yeah, it's been a smashing three months for them.
00:53:56And it could be even better depending on how this appeal goes, obviously, as well for Europe.
00:54:02But no, I mentioned it earlier, it was terrific in the Cup final against Manchester City,
00:54:07and I thought they played very, very well in second half.
00:54:10I think you made a valid point and the one that has to be accepted,
00:54:13I think Liverpool kind of lost their way a little bit when they took Nkiteki off,
00:54:16who I thought showed in glimpses were a very, very good player.
00:54:20Well, great player.
00:54:21And a good player he's gonna be for Liverpool,
00:54:23but when it goes to penalties, Palace took the better ones, simple as that.
00:54:27And Oliver Glasner came in with the remit to lift Palace higher
00:54:32and deliver trophies, and he's doing that, the FA Cup followed by the Community Shield.
00:54:37It's good as well to see the Liverpool players all standing down there on the pitch
00:54:41to acknowledge this Crystal Palace team.
00:54:44The medals being placed around their necks,
00:54:46a big smile on the face there of Chris Richardson,
00:54:48Will Hughes who came on for Kamado in the first half and did well.
00:54:51Sosa had the chance to win it as the new boy hit the bar.
00:54:57There's Ezra, and all Crystal Palace fans hope that he's still a Crystal Palace player
00:55:03by the time the transfer window closes,
00:55:06and a big embrace there from Steve Parrish.
00:55:08Yeah.
00:55:09Just checking on Kamado as well, who went off injured.
00:55:12And what a day for Justin Deveni.
00:55:14He came off the bench, nearly scored with his first touch,
00:55:16and then got the winning penalty.
00:55:17Yeah.
00:55:20If you said to the Palace lads and the Palace fans
00:55:24that a year ago, within 12 months,
00:55:28he'd won two trophies at Wembley,
00:55:30they might have settled for that, you know?
00:55:32I think they'd take it.
00:55:34What about that?
00:55:36Chairman and goalkeeper.
00:55:38There are many that do it better than Dean Henderson
00:55:41in a penalty shootout.
00:55:43I wonder where that bonnet's going.
00:55:45I think the doff of the camp when he saved the first one
00:55:47might be one of the more memorable moments of the season already.
00:55:49We've not even started properly.
00:55:50And there is Ishmael Asar, who, which we didn't do during the game,
00:55:52but he's your player of the match.
00:55:53Yeah.
00:55:54Some good performances today.
00:55:55I mean, I did enjoy Vrts' Ikki-Tikki first half, but I think Sar,
00:56:00I felt Wharton played well.
00:56:01Some good performances from Palace.
00:56:02Well, it's almost time.
00:56:03There he is.
00:56:04I think the game is going to be a good match.
00:56:05And there is Ishmael Asar, who, which we didn't do during the game,
00:56:06but he's your player of the match.
00:56:07Yeah.
00:56:08Some good performances today.
00:56:09I mean, I did enjoy Vrts' Ikki-Tikki first half,
00:56:12but I think Sar, I felt Wharton played well.
00:56:14Some good performances from Palace.
00:56:18Well, it's almost time.
00:56:23There's Clinton Morrison, who's going to get the honour, I think,
00:56:27of handing the Community Shield over to Mark Gahey,
00:56:30who's had to drag himself up the steps, having been beset by Cramp,
00:56:34but I notice he's managed to dig deep and get himself up there.
00:56:40He's going to receive his medal.
00:56:41I think he might be asking for Ezra to get back in there as well.
00:56:45He was the captain at the end.
00:56:46He got the armband on for the shootout.
00:56:48He's got to get his medal first.
00:56:49Well, the Eagles landed at Wembley in May, and they've returned today to win another trophy.
00:56:58It's becoming addictive for the players and the supporters of Crystal Palace.
00:57:04And I know you mentioned it, I think that's a great touch Liverpool there, the players.
00:57:09Well, there it is, that's what they came for today.
00:57:13And Mark Gahey, he holds the Community Shield, and he lifts it high above his head.
00:57:20And for the very first time, the Community Shield is on its way to Selhurst Park.
00:57:27They're glad all over, and we say well done to Crystal Palace.
00:57:32It's become the new normal for Palace, hasn't it? Trophies at Wembley.
00:57:50Two and two now. An amazing day for Steve Parrish, the players, the fans, everyone involved in Crystal Palace Football Club.
00:57:57Now, something that's not normal, we've got 52 Premier League matches, 529 games for UEFA's club competitions, as well as the most extensive ever coverage of the Emirates FA Cup and Adobe Women's FA Cup.
00:58:12This one here, the Community Shield, the first of a whole host of titles to be won across TNT Sports this season.
00:58:21Now, UEFA Super Cup we've got coming up as well.
00:58:24Paris Saint-Germain, the Champions League winners against Tottenham Hotspur, the Europa League winners.
00:58:29That one's on Wednesday at 7pm, and it's on TNT Sports 1.
00:58:34And in the Premier League, Aston Villa against Newcastle.
00:58:38That one at Villa Park is on Saturday at 11am, and it is on TNT Sports 1.
00:58:44That gets the Premier League coverage kicking off 2.
00:58:47But we're going to stay here at Wembley, because there's much more to talk about, much more analysis, and much more reaction from these wonderful, wonderful teams that we're seeing around us now.
00:58:59This is amazing, Joe. I was watching you, watching them, tearing up almost again.
00:59:05Again, yeah, again. Honestly, it's great.
00:59:08And you can see now, look at these guys, you know, staying here right to the end and obviously lifting the roof still.
00:59:15This is what this club's all about, these fans, and they deserve the success.
00:59:20You know, the way in which things have gone over the last 18 months since all of the Clasers came in.
00:59:25You know, it's been incredible to watch and it's been a great journey and, you know, today it's been amazing to watch on.
00:59:32It can be a great springboard, Macca, can't it?
00:59:34Yes, and let's hope the manager and this team that have just won this trophy get a little bit of help.
00:59:41Because European football, playing Sunday, playing Thursday, playing Sunday, it is relentless.
00:59:47And they will need a bigger squad. As I said, they brought in two, but they will need a bigger squad.
00:59:53The manager has worked wonders for this team, he really has, and the team have responded.
00:59:57They've got so much potential, but they could do with a bit of help, because once European football comes round, it gets hard.
01:00:03The travel, the relentless amount of football that you need to play, people will pick up injuries.
01:00:09So now it's time for the managers to say, please, any chance, open the coffers, open the purse.
01:00:16Let's have a few more signings and bolster this already equipped squad, but let's make it stronger.
01:00:22They've got to, Joe, haven't they? They've got to strengthen, like Macca's saying.
01:00:26Yeah, I think, you know, obviously, you see today, obviously, any player that comes into the squad, they know their drills, they know how to work.
01:00:32And that's a credit to, obviously, the gaffer, the way in which he sets up his teams and the message that he gives
01:00:38and the vision that he gives for the team. But, you know, it'd be great to see some poor faces come in.
01:00:43And like Macca was saying, you need that depth throughout the squad to compete in Europe.
01:00:47Listen, the guys, the way they look after themselves, they'd be fine, but it's always nice to have that little bolster.
01:00:53And in one-off games, they'll be fine. FA Cup final, they beat Manchester City.
01:00:57Today, they've beaten Liverpool, but it's when they return, it's when they go into the humdrum of the Premier League throughout the Decembers, the Januaries, then into the FA Cup.
01:01:07That's when the manager, because, of course, everybody picks up injuries, that's a certainty that you'll have injuries.
01:01:12But the manager needs to look and not go into his academy, needs to pick the players that he wants.
01:01:17And I hope this manager who's worked absolute wonders gets what he deserves and the players get what they deserve, which will be a little bit more help.
01:01:26Well, no more over the next couple of weeks, next couple of days, but where do you think the priority is to strengthen for Palace?
01:01:32I think for me, you know, you look at the strength that we've got within the midfield, it's very deep.
01:01:39Maybe rolling in from the inside tens, you know, on the out wide would be great.
01:01:45And like you say, there's going to be moments that we get and pick up injuries, but, you know, there are players that can play in multiple positions.
01:01:53You see that with Jefferson Lerma, he drops him back into the centre-halves, into that back three.
01:01:58But we need just a little bit of cover in those positions, I think, especially going through that vein of the spine of the...
01:02:04John, I've got to ask, because Ali in commentary was loving Adam Morton and his contribution today.
01:02:09He was excellent, wasn't he?
01:02:10He, honestly, for a lad so young, he's got the world at his feet, the way in which he sees the game
01:02:16and the way in which he understands the game as well.
01:02:18He's someone who's come in from the Championship and he's leading meetings in many ways.
01:02:23He's talking throughout the tactics and he's telling people what to do and he shows a maturity that I haven't really seen before.
01:02:30And he plays balls that, you know, you don't see on the pitch.
01:02:35A lot of people won't see it on the pitch, but his intelligence to kind of play around the corner and play forward and break lines is exceptional.
01:02:42I think that's been the thing for Adam Morton.
01:02:45Crystal Palace have always supplied wonderful players, haven't they?
01:02:49And the one thing to keep the wonderful players is to win trophies.
01:02:54If you win trophies, play European football.
01:02:56So if you're going to keep Art Gay here, if you're going to keep Eze, if you're going to keep Matete, if you're going to keep Adam Morton,
01:03:02do this and do it on a regular basis and they won't want to leave.
01:03:06Look, this is the trophy list that you were waiting for, Joel.
01:03:09The one with alcohol, the one with all the celebrations in the pyro-technics.
01:03:12Just joking.
01:03:13You want to go and join that, don't you?
01:03:14What a lovely moment for this side.
01:03:16What a lovely moment for this team and their fan base to watch this unfolding.
01:03:19Yeah, it's great.
01:03:21Look at everyone.
01:03:22Obviously, you can see the joy within the squad.
01:03:24And like I said, they deserve it.
01:03:26They've been brilliant.
01:03:27Ah, here we go.
01:03:28I wonder where this is coming to.
01:03:47And that is what Joel Ward means to this club.
01:03:50Lord, I said they need players.
01:03:51There's one next to me.
