00:00Which tells me that you want to talk about, I mean, this was a D.C. news conference.
00:06It tells me that you want to talk about crime in D.C. and beautification of D.C., but I'm going to put that, that's easy.
00:13And I think, frankly, fixing the crime with the pros, fixing the crime is easy, too.
00:17A person who I've known for a long time, and she's been incredible.
00:22She was a fantastic, one of the best ever district attorneys in New York.
00:28She was in Westchester, and she became a judge, a very successful judge.
00:32And then she went into showbiz because she was such a good D.A. and such a good judge, tough judge, but fair, always fair.
00:39Nobody ever complained about that, but she was tough.
00:42And because of that and her reputation, she went into showbiz.
00:46So a lot of people don't, you know, they think of Janine as showbiz.
00:49Actually, showbiz was not her thing.
00:51It was, and she did great.
00:53She was on, along with a couple of other of my friends, on the number one show.
00:58And she did great.
01:00But this is what she loves doing.
01:02This is really her baby.
01:05What she's going to do is going to be incredible.
01:08And I'd like to introduce, to speak for just a few seconds on what she has in mind, what she wants to do.
01:15We're going to be appointing some judges.
01:17You know, we have some open spots, and we're going to take people, because the judges are letting killers out.
01:23They just say, go.
01:25That's okay.
01:26Don't worry about it.
01:28So we're putting some Pam recommended, Todd recommended, some judges that are great.
01:34Janine recommended.
01:35Janine's given me three great candidates already.
01:37We have about 10 open spots, and we could probably create some more.
01:40We need them.
01:41Janine, would you say a few words, please?
01:43Thank you very much, Mr. President.
01:48And thank you, Madam Attorney General, and to all my partners here.
01:52We all want the same thing.
01:54We all want a safe city.
01:56We want a safe capital.
01:58We want to be able to bring our families here.
02:00We want to be able to come and enjoy the history that makes this place great.
02:06And unfortunately, we are not in that position right now.
02:10And, Mr. President, I want to thank you for taking the step that we need right now to make criminals understand that they are not going to get away with it anymore.
02:21And I'm not going to stand here and go over and over the cases.
02:24But what I can tell you is this, I see too much violent crime being committed by young punks who think that they can get together in gangs and crews and beat the hell out of you or anyone else.
02:38They don't care where they are.
02:40They can be in DuPont Circle, but they know that we can't touch them.
02:45Why?
02:46Because the laws are weak.
02:47I can't touch you if you're 14, 15, 16, 17 years old and you have a gun.
02:53I convict someone of shooting another person with an illegal gun on a public bus in the chest.
03:01Intent to kill?
03:02I convict him.
03:04And you know what the judge gives him?
03:06Probation.
03:07Says you should go to college.
03:09We need to go after the D.C. Council and their absurd laws.
03:14We need to get rid of this concept of, you know, no cash bail.
03:18We need to recognize that the people who matter are the law abiding citizens and it starts today.
03:25But it's not going to end today because the president is going to do everything we need to do to make sure that these emboldened criminals understand we see you, we're watching you and we're going to change the law to catch you.
03:40And my final note is this.
03:42These kids understand that the jurisdiction is through the state attorney general, Brian Schwab.
03:49I did a poster of the young man from Doge who was beaten bloody with a severe concussion, a broken nose.
03:57And then I did a poster of what happens to those kids because I can't arrest them.
04:01I can't prosecute them.
04:03They go to family court and they get to do yoga and arts and crafts.
04:09Enough.
04:10It changes today.
04:12Thank you, Mr. President.
04:14Thank you, Jim.
04:14You're welcome.
04:15Great job.
