On Monday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) criticized Republicans' plan to use a rescissions package to cut funding for the Department of Education after agreeing on a budget.

00:00Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are trying to pull a fast one on us.
00:04For months, Trump has been going after the Department of Education.
00:08He fired half the staff, signed an executive order to dismantle the agency, and now he's
00:13trying to defund the department altogether.
00:17Here is his master plan.
00:19Right now, Republicans and Democrats are trying to negotiate a deal on how to fund the Department
00:24of Education for next year.
00:26To get this funding passed, the Republicans need some Democrats to support it.
00:31So they get some stuff they want.
00:34We get some stuff we want.
00:36That is how the process works.
00:37But right now, the White House is saying out loud that after we pass this bipartisan deal,
00:44they want the Republicans in Congress to use a shady trick to rip away the money that we
00:50just negotiated.
00:51That shady trick is called a rescissions package, and you only need 50 votes to get it done.
00:57In other words, Republicans have the votes with no Democratic help.
01:01This is like Republicans saying, we'll make a deal to sell you a car today.
01:05And then a month from now, they come back and steal the wheels.
01:09That's what Republicans are trying to do with the Department of Education.
01:13Republicans are telling us Democrats that they want to get this budget passed.
01:18But we all know, because the White House admitted it, that they're going to delete that money
01:23right after we get it.
01:25It's messed up.
01:27And the worst part is, it affects real families.
01:30Republicans want to cut the funding that helps public school students all across this country.
01:35Let me be clear.
01:36I'm voting no on any funding bill that defunds our public schools.
01:41No.
