00:00Well, we have cooler, drier air moving in for the next couple of days.
00:02It'll touch off a few showers and thunderstorms tonight,
00:05but the heat and humidity and more storm chances are moving back in late week.
00:18So we have air quality alerts back across the state today and into tomorrow morning.
00:23Expected to get into the unhealthy category for everybody across central and northern Minnesota.
00:28Probably the orange, unhealthy for sensitive groups in the Twin Cities.
00:31Southern Minnesota already seeing it reaching the red here in the northwestern part of the state
00:35with those north and west winds blowing back in the wildfire smoke.
00:40It's not going to stick around for several days at least.
00:42It looks to blow out tonight into early tomorrow morning,
00:44but we could see more smoke blow back in for northern Minnesota as we head into late tomorrow.
00:49It's visible on satellite. It's that hazy, murky cloud cover, or looks like cloud cover across the state.
00:55To the west, we've got a cool front, another one.
00:58This is another weak front that'll drop the dew points more for tomorrow
01:01and the temperatures for the middle of the week here.
01:04And touch off a few showers and thunderstorms,
01:06mostly northern Minnesota later today into tonight and early tomorrow morning.
01:10So here's 5 p.m.
01:11Some of those thunderstorms you can see popping up in northwestern Minnesota,
01:14and then those will drift south and east in the night.
01:16But as it gets later into the night, most of those showers will kind of fizzle out.
01:20So don't count on a whole lot of rain here in the Twin Cities area.
01:23And still some lingering spotty showers up across northern Minnesota tomorrow.
01:27Still in the 80s today, highs low to mid-80s pretty much across the state.
01:30So that's why it'll take this second front to drop the temperatures and dew points a little bit more
01:34from what we had here Friday and Saturday.
01:36Highs tomorrow, low 80s, just low 70s across northern Minnesota,
01:41where they'll have a few more clouds too.
01:42And again, some of those pop-up spotty showers and storms later in the day.
01:45So dew points will drop tomorrow further.
01:47Still a little sticky today into tomorrow morning, low 60s dew points.
01:51It's an improvement from what we had Friday when we set a record dew point.
01:54But 50s dew points move in for tomorrow afternoon into Wednesday.
01:58Short-lived, though, we're going to see much warmer and more humid air move back in.
02:02So slightly below normal temperatures tomorrow and Wednesday.
02:05But here comes the heat for Thursday, Friday.
02:07And also it's going to open the doors to higher dew points once again.
02:11We'll get back into a southerly flow.
02:14Highs by Friday, upper 80s, maybe near 90 degrees again.
02:17So pretty warm here, again, to end the week.
02:20We'll see dew points probably in the low 70s by Friday afternoon.
02:23So it's not going real far away here these next couple days.
02:26It'll come back in pretty quick Thursday, Friday into Saturday.
02:29And whenever we increase the moisture,
02:31you just kind of automatically increase the chance of storms this time of year.
02:34So bet on an unsettled pattern here again late week into the weekend.
02:38We'll see low-level jet streams develop across the plains again.
02:41These accelerate in the overnight hours just a few thousand feet above the ground.
02:45They help transport moisture and warmth to help produce those nighttime thunderstorms.
02:50Combined with several little upper-level disturbances,
02:52it'll be moving in on this kind of zonal west-to-east flow here that we'll have mid-to-late week.
02:56First chance already could come as early as Wednesday night.
02:59But this is a familiar pattern we've had the last few weeks.
03:02They are very difficult to pinpoint the timing of these disturbances here past 36 to 48 hours.
03:07So you can see clusters of storms occasionally.
03:10Bet on those.
03:10Best chances, as is typical with this pattern, late night, early morning hours.
03:15And no one day will be really a washout at all.
03:18But we are going to definitely see the chance of storms as we head into the middle and latter part of the week.
03:22So close to normal temperatures, though, today, tomorrow, and Wednesday.
03:25And then cranking up the temperatures Thursday, Friday,
03:28into the weekend with those upper 80s, maybe near 90 Friday.
03:32Combined with dew points in the low 70s,
03:34it will feel like it's in the 90s at least, Thursday and Friday.
03:37So that steamy air is making a return here late week.
03:45We'll see you next time.
