Speaking to CNN's Dana Bash, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was asked about how Democrats should respond to redistricting in Texas in favor of Republicans.

00:00Redistricting. Yes. What's going on in Texas? Republicans are pushing to redraw the state's
00:06map to try to bolster the House GOP majority, eliminating Democratic seats. I know you have
00:12been a very, a longtime opponent of gerrymandering with redistricting. But you also say the Democratic
00:20governors should, quote, fight fire with fire and redraw. There are a couple of things here.
00:25Yeah. What is quite incredible. I mean, see, we are taking Trumpism kind of as normal. Trump is the
00:32one who came up with the idea. He says, hmm, let's see, Texas, I think we can get five more seats.
00:37Do it. Oh, yes. Yes, sir. You're the great leader. We will do it. And they're often trying to do it.
00:43So everybody knows what's going on. It is undemocratic. It is outrageous.
00:48And yet you think Democratic governors should try to push back and do the same thing?
00:52Well, I think they have no choice. I mean, what Trump is trying to do, he understands
00:56that there is a good chance that Republicans will lose control over the House. I would hope
01:02the Senate as well. That'll be a tougher fight. So he's trying to make, you know, in his authoritarian
01:07way, say, hey, I don't want to lose elections. Let's rig the system. Give me five more votes
01:11in Texas. I mean, maybe some other states. So what should Democrats do? Sit back and say,
01:16oh, gee, Trump is doing this terrible. We can't do anything. Let them win the election when they
01:22shouldn't. So Democrats have got to fight back. I think it's pathetic. But I think that's what
01:27they've got to do. Even though you have said that gerrymandering undermines the political process?
01:33It does. Of course it does. Yeah. What we have now is a terrible situation. And Republicans are
01:37making it worse. But what do you do? If Republicans are doing it, you have to respond. It's pathetic.
01:42But I think you have to respond.
