When you sit down for a proper cream tea, do you put jam or cream on your scone first - and do you say ‘scon’ or ‘scown’?

00:00I say scone, because I think that's the posh way, and then I cut the scone in half and put jam on one, cream on the other, and then join it together and eat it.
00:12Well, the first thing I can say, it's definitely a scone, as far as I'm concerned.
00:16I don't know what they say where I live, but I was born in the North East and we always said scone.
00:21As for jam and cream, let me think, what's the easiest? It's a while since I've had one.
00:24So, probably, I don't know, jam first, it's easier to spread, especially if you've got clotted cream, a bit thick.
00:32You know, I don't know. Yeah, either or. It's the old Devon Cornwall controversy, isn't it?
00:37Scone is how I say it, and it's not really something I ever really think about, to be honest, traditional tea, but yeah, it's scone.
00:45Jam on, I think jam on first and cream on top myself, I think.
00:49Yeah, probably the same, so long as it's not strawberry jam.
00:52Oh, yeah. They always want to give you strawberry and it's not nice.
00:58Cream then, jam.
