A 63-year-old snack seller has been remanded for seven days on suspicion of assaulting a six-year-old girl.

The remand order against the suspect was issued by magistrate Mazana Sinin at the Jasin Magistrate's Court on Monday (August 11) to assist investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

00:08six-year-old girl. The remand order under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 was
00:15issued by Magistrate Mazana Sinin at the Jasin Magistrates Court on Monday. It is learnt the
00:21incident came to light around 12 p.m. on Saturday when the victim's grandmother was informed by her
00:27niece about the suspect's suspicious behaviour near their home in Kesang Tua. It is said the
00:33grandmother went outside and saw the suspect kissing her granddaughter on the cheek. She shouted at him
00:38but he ignored her and walked away towards a waiting car with a woman inside. When the grandmother
00:44confronted them, the woman driver allegedly claimed the suspect was an employee, briefly apologised
00:50and then drove off. Later, the niece revealed that the suspect had tried to give sweets to the girl
00:55who refused before he allegedly assaulted her. Following this incident, a police report was
01:01filed and the suspect was arrested on Sunday.
