00:00My allotment, I've had it roughly five, six years. I've finished work for LL, took this on just to keep my centre a bit active and a bit busy. I struggled, I had someone to help me, and now I've heard in the Great Vine they're going to take the allotments off us to build more houses. I'm not very happy.
00:26Well, I'm absolutely fuming, because these were left for the people at Kirkby and Ashfield by the Duke of Portland. Not to build houses on. You know, it's absolutely disgusting. Ashfield District Council hasn't even told us about this. We'd better hear from somebody else.
00:43Well, it'll upset the lot of them. I mean, there's a lot of rodents on here, so I'll probably finish them off. You know, they like to come down here, get out, do a bit of digging, keep the centre active. And it's not going to happen, is it? It's all they're going to do now, sit at home.
00:57We're going to fight it all the way. I'm hoping we're going to get a lot of backing on here. And we'll fight it all the way. And we'll see what Miss Sanderson's got to say. He's a good man. Hey, I'll get help us all the way.
01:09We'll just have to wait and see. The council's not bothered. The sooner people go in the shop and pay a fortune instead of growing their own, they go on about, you know, cost a living. People's got allotments. They want to grow their own food, because they can't afford to go to the shop, some folks. And they're taking it away from them.
01:28I've had this allotment 14, 15 years. Well, it's a place to come to and relax. It's a place to come to and helps with me health, because it keeps me active. Now I'm 84.
01:43So it keeps me right side at the cemetery wall. And I enjoy doing it. Well, I'm very disappointed because it's been sprung on us without any warning or anything like that.
01:56They give you rules where you've got to keep allotment, all this and that. And then they do a trick like this, just spring it on us that they want it to build on.
02:07So we're not very happy at all about it. Well, we'll fight it if we can, if we can get enough of members together and have a meeting with council and see why they've pulled this trick on us.
02:19It'd be nice for them to answer and give us a reason why, and we'll fight it as best as we can.
02:26We'd like to keep the allotments open.
02:29Yeah, everybody more or less enjoys coming up here and everything. They're friendly to one another and everything.
02:34It's a place where you can meet and have a talk and laugh. You can grow your own food and everything. It's a necessity, really.
02:45The vegetables, what you grow, they're fresh, they're better than shop-bought stuff. And, well, it's just a way of life, isn't it?
02:55It wants preserving and we'll want to keep it that way.
