00:00:00Started with Sri Lanka perhaps a little bit lower in Group A than they thought they would be
00:00:05after Shia Dafridi led Pakistan to a surprise win in Colombo on Saturday.
00:00:11And that is where Sri Lanka stayed in their nation's capital at the Primadasa Stadium.
00:00:17First blood to Kenya though when Jimmy Kimondi won the toss and he chose to bat first.
00:00:22There were three changes to his team with Alex Abanda, Raket Patel and Thomas Odoio
00:00:27making way for David Aboyat, Tanmay Mishra and Peter Ongondo.
00:00:32Sri Lanka on the other hand made two changes with the fully fit Lasif Malinga replacing Tisara Pereira
00:00:37and the mystery spin of a Jan Thamendis preferred to Ranganath Harath.
00:00:43Robert Key and Jeremy Coney are in the studio tonight ready to provide analysis on that Group A match.
00:00:49We'll also pick their brains for thoughts on how England and Ireland will shape up tomorrow
00:00:53as we preview that game later in the show.
00:00:56For now though, here are the highlights of the Kenyan innings.
00:01:05So it's Sri Lanka against Kenya, Group A, Lasif Malinga back into the World Cup.
00:01:14And that'll encourage him for a few more overs.
00:01:21Bit of pace and it's a no ball.
00:01:23Two men on the fence.
00:01:30Free hit here.
00:01:35And there is Khelekarat Nidilshan.
00:01:37He was one of the two men on the boundary.
00:01:39Oh, that's right in front.
00:01:47Yes, it has to be.
00:01:49Tony Hill raises the finger.
00:01:52And Boris Ooma is on the way back.
00:01:55First strike for Sri Lanka.
00:01:57And it's Kulisekara who traps his man.
00:02:02Walked down the wicket to Sirin Waters to get his opinion on that.
00:02:05And he's asked for the review.
00:02:12It's pitched outside.
00:02:14Impact is in line and it's hitting the wickets.
00:02:17Three reds.
00:02:18And I'm afraid that Boris Ooma's appeal will be turned down.
00:02:24Original decision stands and he is out.
00:02:27Here's Kenya four for one and Ooma has gone.
00:02:32Kulisekara has made an early strike.
00:02:36Second ball.
00:02:39Of his first over.
00:02:43Malinga.
00:02:45Fielder.
00:02:45So, two runs there.
00:02:52Here's Malinga.
00:02:54Oh, it's a toe crusher.
00:02:56And it's also LVW.
00:02:59I don't think they'll review this one.
00:03:02He'll probably want to go to the doctors and have those toes looked at.
00:03:07He speared it in.
00:03:09Lasset Malinga.
00:03:10He is so hard to pick up with that low arm action.
00:03:13Well directed, Lasset Malinga.
00:03:21If it hasn't taken its toes, he's taken his instep.
00:03:25And he's down on his knees.
00:03:27Waters has gone.
00:03:29Anything but Seren.
00:03:30Seren's gone.
00:03:31He's gone for three.
00:03:33Malinga strikes.
00:03:33It's eight for two.
00:03:36It's going Sri Lanka's way.
00:03:40Oh, there's another one.
00:03:42They've all gone out.
00:03:43Look at the slips.
00:03:45Every one behind the stumps was up.
00:03:50Late in swing here for Malinga.
00:03:55If he came around the wicket, he'd be virtually unplayable.
00:03:57He's not very playable now from over the wicket.
00:04:02Again, a repeat.
00:04:03This one easily sliding down, though.
00:04:07Hook him by surprise.
00:04:10Swing's very late, doesn't it?
00:04:11Edge.
00:04:12And I think Sangakara might have just got a little glove on that to take the pace off it.
00:04:24But I don't think it carried to the captain.
00:04:27A couple of runs.
00:04:28A couple of runs.
00:04:2913 for two from three.
00:04:32Oh, well played.
00:04:39And that's a good shot steered through the offside field.
00:04:41then that's the first boundary of the innings in the air and short while
00:04:51second slip had to go for that it just didn't quite carry did it I'd really
00:04:55like to see a little bit more carry in these pictures here at Prima Dassa
00:05:01oh he's beaten the bat short outside off stuff he can be a little a little bit
00:05:12quicker on occasions I think he puts a little bit of extra into the ball Kula
00:05:15Sikara this was one of the deliveries just outside of stomach see it bounced a
00:05:20bit more as well they're quite deceptive good bowling
00:05:28well well well well that's beatly mall ends up
00:05:42oh and he's over the top of that one that should have been stopped these are the
00:05:46little mistakes that Sri Lanka can't afford to make
00:05:50the link are not happy at the end of the hour back it's 27 for two
00:05:58beautifully played shot there's no field today it's gonna run away for boundary
00:06:04with David of oil he's on 11 of 20 feet deliveries 33 for two long Kenya
00:06:13that's a fine shot gut shot we'll do the job even though he was late on it but
00:06:23still good enough to earn him a four
00:06:25oh straight away good delivery Kumar Sangakara is gone for the appeal caught
00:06:34behind I think they're not going to refer it a good confidence start from agenda
00:06:42tremendous turn and bounce I remember the Asia Cup you talking about in 2008 when
00:06:47Sri Lanka won that Asia Cup and he got six wickets against the Indians we can
00:06:51play him in Lahore against the Indians and they kept him for the final we got six
00:06:55one yeah so that's beautifully pulled again this that's what this guy's so so
00:07:00dangerous the polls quick and he goes with him the stumps release yes if you
00:07:06haven't played him then he can be a handful
00:07:11holding close from the stamps in the fall of narrowly missing the edge and the
00:07:15offstrum
00:07:18that's nicely played there's a feeler there a deep back with square leg he'll
00:07:25gather the ball only single taken
00:07:33oh he swan hard at that that's come out of nowhere and it is really scabbered
00:07:40across that outfield before
00:07:43that's good shot and good to see a bit of intent the partnership well they've
00:07:51done the steadying bit after losing a couple of early wickets now it's time to
00:07:55get a move on and the good thing is that they've realized that partnership now has
00:08:00moved to 46 but it's eaten up 95 deliveries
00:08:05that's I think a leg by and they go back for two and that will bring up the 50
00:08:26partnership it is leg buys and that is the first 50 run partnership between these
00:08:31two Oboya brothers in their careers
00:08:38down the pitch and that will clear lid off and it's a couple of bounces before
00:08:46good shot 20 over is gone 63 for two
00:08:52come on has gone up with a chorus of an appeal but I think I'm sure that's hit the
00:09:00bat is he going to make a review here appeal I think he has
00:09:05how big is that front stride there's no bat involved here it's hit him straight on
00:09:11the roll of the pad he's gone a long way down
00:09:17I'll tell you what the 2.5 ruling could come in it's certainly pitched in line the
00:09:24impact is in line and it is more than two and a half meters and that's one of the
00:09:29reasons why umpires are very low to give those because so many things can happen
00:09:35when the batsman is so far out of his crease good decision
00:09:42now then did that go off the foot or was that an outside edge
00:09:50that goes down as two runs so we've now got the situation where both teams have had one
00:10:03unsuccessful challenge so they've they've only got one each now both Kenya and Sri Lanka
00:10:09that's a nice looking stroke should be a couple here
00:10:16I think that is the field
00:10:18there is a long on a deep mid wicket the deep backward square so we've got three field
00:10:28is on the leg side on the fence just inside that should get to one of them deep backward square
00:10:37they're coming back for two
00:10:48just drop that a bit too short for Janta Mendez it's another chase for Malinga got a good arm
00:10:55I'm not going to take that on so that's two runs from the final ball six from the over 22 gone 73 for two
00:11:07finger goes up Tony Hill very confident and so too is the review the request for the referral
00:11:18from David Oboya
00:11:21now the original decision the umpires given that out LBW
00:11:25now the Hawkeye Matt is down there it's pitched in line
00:11:29it's hit in line but it's more than 2.5 meters
00:11:33and Hawkeye tells us the ball is missing
00:11:36change of decision change of decision decision is reversed not out
00:11:49got a top edge
00:11:56well if there was a top edge contest
00:11:59Kenya would win it hands down
00:12:02top edge leading edge they've had everything going their way
00:12:05huge full toss
00:12:17now then was that over waist high
00:12:20probably around about the waist margin
00:12:21that's 50 for Colleen Subuya
00:12:37we hit that one nice and hard and will it go for four no it doesn't it's very well fielded
00:12:40Karanga down there diving a long way
00:12:45beautiful fielding
00:12:48he had to time that well
00:12:52the batsman did time it though
00:12:55he had to time the jump
00:12:57oh well he did
00:12:59they have two runs
00:13:02that's in the air
00:13:05there's no one with inside of it
00:13:08it's going to fall safely
00:13:09you wouldn't believe it
00:13:10four of them
00:13:11converging on the ball
00:13:13but if you were going to lob one in the air anywhere
00:13:15you'd lob it into that area at mid wicket
00:13:17because there was no one anywhere near there
00:13:19in quite a few top edges
00:13:23but this one was a teaser
00:13:27Harapo probably he could have caught that one
00:13:33he could have caught that one
00:13:40noise bowled him clean bowled him
00:13:42that's beautifully bowled
00:13:44a little bit of reverse swing there
00:13:46and it looked to me as if that almost hit the base of the stumps
00:13:49but that is outstanding bowling
00:13:51exactly what Malinga wanted to do
00:13:54it was just too quick
00:13:55well this is exactly the same method that New Zealand used
00:14:05and pretty similar result
00:14:06they got a few LVWs
00:14:08and quite a lot of bowls
00:14:11Hamish Bennett was the man who did the damage for New Zealand on that occasion
00:14:15this time it's Lassie Malinga
00:14:17it's 1-0-2 for three
00:14:20he's gone for the duck
00:14:26oh and again going for the Yorker
00:14:29that's wide down the leg side
00:14:30wide down the leg side
00:14:37just wide of Joe Wadano who's waiting patiently for an outside edge
00:14:43I think he'd reckon that at some stage he'll get one
00:14:47the slow drivery that's put away
00:14:54that's gone for four
00:14:56a real half trekker from Kulusekrai
00:15:00I think once again a Sri Lankan bowler trying to slow down the pace of the ball
00:15:05I'm sure he went for the slow bouncer
00:15:09just didn't work
00:15:15just sat up there and
00:15:17asked to be hit
00:15:18and Steve Tocolo did exactly that
00:15:23first boundary from 94 balls
00:15:25so they do need some help
00:15:26batting power play I think
00:15:30good fast delivery that bit him
00:15:32came back strongly
00:15:37well that's gone
00:15:38he's got a point
00:15:39telecratic and Dilshaan is clever
00:15:41and a good athlete at point
00:15:44Rayleigh was stuck hard
00:15:45but went straight
00:15:47to the fielder and Dilshaan made no mistake
00:15:54it's Tocolo was fallen
00:15:56he wasn't the best delivery
00:15:58he was wide, he was short
00:15:59he played it nicely
00:16:00went straight to the field and Dilshaan
00:16:02who is one of the best fielder
00:16:04in Sri Lankan side
00:16:05he made no mistake
00:16:06it was mettled nicely
00:16:09the most experienced
00:16:12batsman departs
00:16:14Steve Tocolo for 7
00:16:15Kenya
00:16:16120 for 4
00:16:21bit of swing
00:16:22reverse in his place
00:16:23nicely played with the fielder and extra cover
00:16:26that's his 50 up as well
00:16:28as well of 104 deliveries
00:16:31I think it did well
00:16:32David Oboyo
00:16:3350 of 104 deliveries
00:16:35with 3 boundary Tuesday
00:16:363 boundary Tuesday
00:16:46he's caught hold of this
00:16:47there is a man just waiting for it
00:16:49they've been waiting
00:16:51and waiting and now they've got him
00:16:56David Oboyo
00:16:57his long vigil in the middle comes to an end
00:16:59Murli
00:17:01his experience tells
00:17:05he didn't pick the gap
00:17:07picked the fielder instead
00:17:08straight to the fielder
00:17:09who made no mistake
00:17:11Mathai Murli Diller
00:17:12as we know
00:17:13one of the best offspinners in the world
00:17:15for sure very experienced
00:17:16the highest wicket taker in ODI
00:17:18simple catch
00:17:21the main man departs for 51
00:17:23Kenya 127 for 5
00:17:244-5
00:17:27that field is waiting like lions for the prey
00:17:36looking at the first one for
00:17:38Murli Dharan
00:17:40that match will do it
00:17:43Oboyo
00:17:44played straight to the fielder
00:17:46at mid weekend
00:17:47no problem whatsoever
00:17:49oh Murli
00:17:50could have a shy here
00:17:51the non strikers
00:17:52well done Murli
00:17:54won't be
00:17:59a question on that
00:18:00but it was a nice piece of fielding
00:18:01by the 38 year old
00:18:02who
00:18:03will be playing 2 years of cricket
00:18:05for Gloucestershire
00:18:0820-20 cricket
00:18:09Murli's been signed up as a 20-20 specialist
00:18:15now then Lassig Malinga
00:18:172 for 25 in 6 overs
00:18:19he's bowled 27 dot balls
00:18:21that's almost 4 overs
00:18:22they haven't scored for
00:18:24and about 80%
00:18:25spot on as well
00:18:27and
00:18:29exceptional
00:18:30exceptional
00:18:31beautifully ball
00:18:32look at the late swing
00:18:33oh
00:18:34it could be run out
00:18:35I think he's gone isn't he
00:18:36has he gone the umpire
00:18:37we'll have a look upstairs
00:18:38if he had gone he was just going
00:18:42the non striker was simply saying
00:18:45what are you doing
00:18:53so it's an umpire's review
00:18:55Jimmy Comande was the man he was hit
00:18:57and he was scampering back
00:18:59oh he's going to be way out
00:19:02that's out
00:19:04way out
00:19:09Charmola Silva is the fielder
00:19:12and they're all looking at the
00:19:14big screen in the ground
00:19:16it's going to be out
00:19:18it will be out
00:19:19we don't have to have another look at this one
00:19:23that is another wicket gone
00:19:26for Kenya
00:19:28and really not the best piece of cricket
00:19:33by Kenya's captain
00:19:35who just went out of the blocks with no thought process
00:19:38he's gone for one
00:19:39three balls 128 for 6
00:19:41oh that's a full toss and it's put away
00:19:49he hasn't given much away Lassit Malinga
00:19:51but he's given a nice little gift there
00:19:55that's what happens Alan
00:19:56if you bowl Jokas
00:19:57especially consistent Jokas
00:19:58you're bound to give
00:19:59one odd full toss
00:20:00and that's what happened there
00:20:01he was going to squig
00:20:02143 kilometres
00:20:04and it was a wicket
00:20:06Kenyan skipper departing
00:20:08ran himself out
00:20:09oh he's got an edge
00:20:26it would have gone over first lips head
00:20:28stroke of luck
00:20:31it's a very well disguised
00:20:33the slow delivery by Malinga
00:20:37he has to vary his length
00:20:38the first one was Jokas
00:20:39tempted Jokas
00:20:40full toss
00:20:41slow ball
00:20:42then picked up by the batsman
00:20:43edged
00:20:44got the boundary
00:20:452 and 2
00:20:468 from 2 balls
00:20:48and then 2 to Malinga
00:20:49very wise
00:20:50we've had 250 deliveries
00:20:52given this innings
00:20:54170 of them have been dot balls
00:20:57the scorers just dot the paper with his pen
00:21:00or his pencil
00:21:01170 deliveries have not been scored from
00:21:04oh it's hit him straight on the kneecap
00:21:07oh it's hit him straight on the kneecap
00:21:21there we are
00:21:22there's the way to do it
00:21:24different colour pencils
00:21:26and the dot
00:21:27in 170 dot balls
00:21:29that that pen has been dotted on that paper
00:21:39oh this must be a shout
00:21:41yes
00:21:42Tony Hill's had some practice at that today
00:21:45oh it's going to be another review
00:21:48he is spearing in these exorcets
00:21:50that's
00:21:51that's
00:21:52that's it Malinga
00:21:56now Hawkeye tells us
00:21:58impact was in line
00:21:59and it's hitting
00:22:02oh
00:22:03now then
00:22:04on-field call is out
00:22:06now that ball
00:22:07the outside of the ball
00:22:08is hit
00:22:09it's just clipped the outside of leg stump
00:22:11there's an amber there
00:22:12it's not a red
00:22:14original decision was out
00:22:16umpire Tony Hill
00:22:18and he stayed with that decision
00:22:19the decision stands
00:22:22so there was a certain element
00:22:26of the cause for the batter
00:22:30but Tanmay Mishra has gone after the review
00:22:34LBW ball Malinga
00:22:35for 0
00:22:36it took him 13 balls for that 0
00:22:38at Kenya
00:22:391.37 for 7
00:22:40ah
00:22:45right through
00:22:46the bat was ages late
00:22:48Malinga has just bowled
00:22:49a volley
00:22:52of Yorkers
00:22:53and he's doing such a lot of damage
00:22:56this uncleable
00:22:57incredible bowling by this
00:22:59Lachit Malinga
00:23:01everything was right there
00:23:02quick
00:23:03and straight
00:23:04and of course
00:23:05swinging
00:23:06late swinging Yorkers
00:23:07as mescalizing the batsman
00:23:08Hongondo
00:23:11has gone
00:23:13he
00:23:14can't keep this out
00:23:15that would have
00:23:16dealt a mighty blow
00:23:17to
00:23:18a batsman higher up the order
00:23:19Hongondo
00:23:20has gone
00:23:210
00:23:22it's 1.37

00:23:35Akima Roach
00:23:36for the West Indies
00:23:37used to say
00:23:38it can't be a hat-trick
00:23:39here
00:23:43oh he's got it
00:23:51it is a hat-trick here
00:23:52at the Premadasa
00:23:54it's a second hat-trick for Lachit Malinga
00:23:56bang on target
00:23:57he celebrates
00:23:58Ngoce

00:24:02here's another
00:24:03brilliant delivery
00:24:05it's carnage here at the Premadasa

00:24:08Malinga
00:24:09it's carnage here at the Premadasa
00:24:10Malinga
00:24:11has just caused havoc
00:24:12has just caused havoc
00:24:18unplayable
00:24:19what a performance by this youngster
00:24:20and Sri Lanka relies on this guy in this world cup
00:24:21hat-trick
00:24:22Ongatche for zero
00:24:23Kenya
00:24:24struggling
00:24:25137 for 9
00:24:26and he has been struggling
00:24:27in this world cup
00:24:28in the world cup
00:24:29it's a bad game
00:24:30that's a bad game
00:24:31and the world cup
00:24:32that's a bad game
00:24:33that's what's going on
00:24:34it's a bad game
00:24:35that's a bad game
00:24:36that's a bad game
00:24:37and he's got to be
00:24:38zero can they are struggling 137 for nine
00:24:44they want Malinga to take four in four Kumar Sangakkara is organizing his
00:24:51troops I get a couple of slips in there
00:24:55Lassit Malinga has taken four in four before he took it against South Africa
00:25:01in the West Indies in 2007 oh he's bowled a shocker
00:25:06oh Lassit you've let us all down
00:25:17oh but they've gone again this has been a one-man show
00:25:23Malinga the Marauder he's picked up six
00:25:29this has been the most magnificent display of fast hostile bowling they've
00:25:35gone mad in the stands and Malinga
00:25:39has simply blown away Kenya
00:25:44this is six wickets for Lassit Malinga here at the Primadasa the second Sri Lankan bowler to take six in the World Cup
00:25:58Jiminda Vaz achieved it first what a magnificent display have you ever seen anything like this
00:26:06not lately incredible bowling got four wickets four all the four were pulled and look at the late swing and pace by Malinga what a talent
00:26:20well he's going to walk off ahead of his teammates it's a team game but of
00:26:29all his six wickets they've either been bold or LBW he hasn't needed Kumar Sangakkara or
00:26:34Maela Joe Warner at slip take a bow Lassit Malinga
00:26:39well what a dramatic end to Kenya's innings at eight for two a repeat of what happened against New Zealand in Chennai was on the cards but the
00:26:52others put on 94 to save the side's blushes they provided only temporary relief though as the irresistible force that is Lassit Malinga made sure that the last seven wickets fell for just 22 runs
00:27:04World Cup hat tricks are rare but we've now had two in successive games in this tournament Malinga became the first man ever to take two in World Cups having already taken four wickets and four balls against South Africa in 2007
00:27:17full fast and swinging there wasn't much the Kenyans could do about it and you suspect better batsmen might have struggled as well
00:27:24so just 104 today and fired a warning to all batsmen
00:27:31four wickets and six deliveries was a devastating display of death bowling and included his second World Cup hat trick it also reduced Kenya to 142 all out
00:27:41point made with the ball then which Sri Lanka be just as ruthless with the bats
00:28:00well I think that could be a wide is it will that be a wide signal
00:28:04yes wide signal
00:28:11yes wide signal
00:28:13yes wide signal
00:28:15that's carved away for one
00:28:17tip of the dealership
00:28:18well bowled how did that miss
00:28:26yes
00:28:33jack back I would suspect
00:28:36it's around the city himself up to play on the angle
00:28:46oh what a shot
00:28:47he was sitting back for it
00:29:06been waiting for that for a while
00:29:08pitched up
00:29:09he hardly moved
00:29:12just the pace that he relies on
00:29:14and then
00:29:15we all know it
00:29:17it's quick hands
00:29:19what do you reckon that work is
00:29:22oh he's got some signatures on there as well
00:29:25well done
00:29:26oh good shot
00:29:29a little bit like that
00:29:32lofted over extra
00:29:34it won't run for four
00:29:37that's Sri Lanka
00:29:39and Kupul Taranga will get three
00:29:52did he get a hand to that
00:29:54he's played at it
00:29:55outside that off stump
00:29:56it's quite wide to Dilshan
00:30:00this is the way now that Dilshan plays every innings
00:30:02whether it's 20-20 cricket or 50 over World Cup cricket
00:30:06it's there
00:30:07it's there
00:30:08if he's got his eye on it
00:30:09he'll smack it
00:30:10no he didn't get a hand to it
00:30:13pounced on him a little bit
00:30:15thereby unable to time that
00:30:19Dilshan
00:30:20he's lucky there to get it into space
00:30:26this is the mandatory power play
00:30:28the field restrictions in the first ten overs
00:30:30only two players can field outside the inner circle
00:30:34that goes down as a chance to Peter Ongondo
00:30:44and it will be another three
00:30:46that's two run threes in this over
00:30:54Kenya if they wish to make any impact here they've got to take these chances
00:30:58he's a big boy
00:31:00took him a long while to get down
00:31:08he hit it as hard as he could like
00:31:10but he did get a finger to that one
00:31:12hit that nicely
00:31:27no one will cut it off
00:31:29that's four of the final ball
00:31:3123 for no wicket off three
00:31:33well is there a ball that Dilshan has not played a shot at
00:31:47I can't recall
00:31:50I suppose the captain knows because he's in next that Dilshan does play like this
00:31:54he's just throwing the bat at everything
00:32:00yeah he does have you nervous in the dressing room though
00:32:03but he's been very successful
00:32:05and he bats just like that even in chess cricket
00:32:11he's able to put pressure on the bowlers
00:32:13right from the word go
00:32:15well the law of averages will tell you that he's going to connect with one and there it is
00:32:33well he hit that hard into the ground
00:32:38then he once it hits the square it just flies away
00:32:41value for shots out here though
00:32:45once it beats the field there's no catching that one
00:32:59finally coming in
00:33:01deep point going out
00:33:02that's the favoured zone of these batsmen
00:33:05slightest width
00:33:06they go hard
00:33:08we've got a third man
00:33:09and a deep point out on the face
00:33:15and he balls it down the leg side
00:33:16that really is
00:33:18not what the skipper wanted
00:33:22and the ambos straying down there
00:33:32not at all clever
00:33:33what does the captain do when you do that
00:33:38sets you a feel
00:33:39you just do the opposite
00:33:43the one man who won't be complaining
00:33:45is Dr. Dilshan
00:33:46not the nicest looking stroke but it'll bring in some runs for Dilshan
00:34:02and they didn't run the first two quickly so they only got two
00:34:05played that online
00:34:12played that online
00:34:13Dilshan but trying to hit it too hard once again
00:34:16who did think that it was going to go away for four
00:34:19the problem is
00:34:20when you want to hit it too hard your hands harden
00:34:23you can't hit it as sweetly as you would like
00:34:25or control it
00:34:26oh that's gone way over point
00:34:27that fits another boundary for Dilshan
00:34:29that fits another boundary for Dilshan
00:34:33he used to seeing that many times again not in control
00:34:54we used to seeing that many times again not in control
00:34:58He's used to seeing that many times. Again, not in control, but he knows, he just needs to get it over that field.
00:35:12Horace Omar, even with it, he's just passing around.
00:35:19Perhaps he's thinking he hasn't got enough fielders out there.
00:35:21Ah, there's our good friend Ranjit Fernando.
00:35:24Ranjit, who you know around the world has done commentary, lovely man, now a selector.
00:35:29Dilshan's gone for a walk and he has absolutely smashed that away for four.
00:35:37Five overs, 42 for now Wigan.
00:35:48There's a man out there, but this will be dropping short of him.
00:35:54As an outfielder as well for Kenya, you're going to be thinking that the ball could come to you at any moment.
00:36:00Because with Dilshan in this mood, it could be like plate pigeon shooting, could go anywhere.
00:36:05Bang, up here goes again.
00:36:11I think he was just telling Dilshan, Turanga that is, when he got to the other end.
00:36:15And just watch, there's a little bit of loop there, a bit of drop.
00:36:18I think he was looking to hit a lot straighter.
00:36:21I think he was looking to go more mid-on and finished up with that little bit of loop and a bit of spin and finished at mid-wicket.
00:36:28But there is a long off here for Dilshan and a deep backwards square.
00:36:32No one's going to stop that.
00:36:33He simply blasts it.
00:36:34No one's going to stop that.
00:36:35He simply blasts it.
00:36:36Stands there and watches it.
00:36:37No one's going to stop that.
00:36:38He simply blasts it.
00:36:39Stands there and watches it.
00:36:40No one's going to stop that.
00:36:58He simply blasts it.
00:37:01Stands there and watches it.
00:37:04He loves square of the wicket on the offside.
00:37:11He blasted the previous one but didn't pick the gap.
00:37:15This time, no problem in picking the gap.
00:37:20That's where he loves to go.
00:37:23Straight into the ground, it just flew away.
00:37:276-4s in this innings of Dilshan.
00:37:35He's got 34.
00:37:38Strike weight of 161.
00:37:40How can they stop this hemorrhage of runs?
00:37:42There's four more.
00:37:45Marginally short.
00:37:48It's 50 up for Sri Lanka in just 5.5 overs.
00:37:52Well, this is reminiscent of Sevak.
00:37:55This is what he loves to do.
00:37:57Just smack the ball away on the offside.
00:38:01Square or straight.
00:38:03That really was a Sevak shot, that one.
00:38:05It wasn't all that short.
00:38:08But just a quick shuffle of the feet got him into position.
00:38:12It was a beautiful shot.
00:38:14So, 50 up inside 6 overs.
00:38:17He could occupy the crease for some time.
00:38:20...position.
00:38:21Trying to get across and stop that one.
00:38:23It was a poor ball.
00:38:24Just dragged down.
00:38:25And he's struggling a bit.
00:38:27He was struggling at the end of his innings.
00:38:30He didn't bend all that well in trying to get to it.
00:38:33And then he pulled up a bit lame.
00:38:35There was seven wickets, or seven Kenyan wickets fell today.
00:38:49LBW in bold.
00:38:50And in the game against New Zealand, also seven LBW in bold.
00:38:54Slight problem in defence.
00:39:03Well, there's no stopping it.
00:39:05And Kenya, a shell shot.
00:39:07David Oboya, he's struggling.
00:39:09So too are his team mates.
00:39:12Now, Morunga's getting in on the act.
00:39:18And he's also going square of the wicket on the offside.
00:39:21Nicely played that shot.
00:39:24He hit down on it beautifully.
00:39:26Do that and hit it into the hard pitch there.
00:39:29It really zings away into the outfield.
00:39:31That's beaten mid-on.
00:39:40It's another boundary.
00:39:41Eleven fours in this innings.
00:39:4365 for no wicket from seven.
00:39:52That's nicely played mid-off.
00:39:54Mid-on does well.
00:40:01Still finds the gap.
00:40:06It was an acute angle.
00:40:09And he made it look extremely easy in that cut shot that he placed so well.
00:40:18Well, that's the problem coming over the wicket.
00:40:20You have to be pinpoint accurate and get in to leg stump.
00:40:24Even into that blind spot for the right-hand batsman.
00:40:28But even a little bit of the room on the offside.
00:40:32And he's placing the ball so well there.
00:40:37That's eight fours now for Dilshan in his 43.
00:40:40Coming off just 27 balls.
00:40:45Here's the fastest 50 by a Sri Lankan batsman in World Cup cricketers.
00:40:49By Arjun Arana Tunga.
00:40:5029 ball 50 versus Kenya at Kandy.
00:40:54In the 96 world.
00:40:58That's amazing.
00:40:59You would have bet on Joe Saria as an absolute certainty.
00:41:03Maybe he got bored.
00:41:09Change of angle now.
00:41:10Around the wicket.
00:41:11There's a feeler there now patrolling the point area.
00:41:19Only be one.
00:41:21After eight over 72 without a wicket.
00:41:26He walks and glams it hard but there's a feeler there at mid-off.
00:41:32That's again showing positive intent.
00:41:33A little bit of a shot.
00:41:34Hit it right in the middle.
00:41:35Hit it on the rise.
00:41:36Just picked out mid-off.
00:41:39Cliff's been removed.
00:41:40From that shot cover.
00:41:41And caught behind.
00:41:43If you were a little bit of a draw.
00:41:44A little bit of a shot.
00:41:46A little bit of a shot.
00:41:47A little bit of a shot.
00:41:48They've been shot.
00:41:49Hit it right in the middle.
00:41:50Hit it on the rise.
00:41:51Just picked out mid-off.
00:41:53Cliff's been removed.
00:41:55From that shot cover.
00:41:59And caught behind.
00:42:01cover
00:42:08and caught behind looking for that cut shot that is played so well in the
00:42:13settings
00:42:13effect over his career but this time is gone caught behind
00:42:19pretty useful delivery that one was a bit quicker
00:42:23and very well directed
00:42:27angle back into the ocean just cramped him as he tried to get it
00:42:33where the bills would just come from through the slips
00:42:36there just loved him
00:42:38so success at last for Kenya Sri Lanka 72 for one
00:42:50and straight away off the mark playing it with a straight back
00:42:53it was a nice feeling whether you're playing against a min or a major team to
00:42:56get off the mark the first ball
00:43:03it's the man in the ring but there's a feeler there in the deep
00:43:06collects the ball it throws back into the keeper's glove only one taken
00:43:10and then go hard at this one because the runga timed it nicely
00:43:17and then they bounce on the hard square and really fly away
00:43:25it's got to be extremely quick in that point position
00:43:32it's a no ball a free hit on offer for kumar sangakara
00:43:34and i'm sure he'll try to make most of it
00:43:41a beautiful present for the sri lankan captain
00:43:44yeah you can't ask for much more as the batsman knew at the crease
00:43:49get a free hit you can really let loose early on a chance to get a boundary smack one in the middle
00:43:56all the sort of things that help a batsman's confidence
00:43:58especially when you know you can't get out
00:44:03well that's silly enough to run yourself up
00:44:10go straight
00:44:12is it big enough
00:44:15one bounce and over the road for four
00:44:18but that will do it for kumar sangakara first boundary 79 for one
00:44:41wasn't convincing on that occasion upu taranga but he'll still pick up one
00:44:47it's a pitch where you really have to time the ball
00:44:52it isn't a true surface anymore
00:44:54the ball is stopping
00:44:56at times it has taken off from the good length area
00:45:07the runga obviously not as natural a striker of the ball as the level of Mendel Shahan is
00:45:14the strike rate is pretty decent but more than decent
00:45:24would take a risky run
00:45:27being that mid off took his time otherwise
00:45:30the one-handed pick up and throw would have
00:45:32had kumar sangakara in bit of trouble
00:45:34not much anticipation in the field there from kenya on that occasion in the previous delivery when it went down to fine leg
00:45:44david obaya who's struggling a bit i think physically
00:45:47but he was just strolling in to pick it up
00:45:50the swelunk and batsman could have punished him if they'd run the first one hard
00:45:53and it got back for a second
00:46:01beautifully timed shot goes straight to the man at point
00:46:03that's nicely played when well done at mid off full length die from obaya
00:46:16his heavy frame fell on the ball
00:46:18but the betting power play
00:46:21the first betting power play
00:46:23package has belonged to the later
00:46:25middle shine has been outstanding once again
00:46:27good positive intent
00:46:29great creativity at the crease
00:46:31Indian got a good one
00:46:33the ball bounced extra bit on it
00:46:35Scott and sangakara got a gift
00:46:37in the shape of a free hit
00:46:38he made good use of it
00:46:40a slice and away from the field in the deep
00:46:47Vaseem Akram has joined me
00:46:48whereas this is not looking too good for Kenya
00:46:50not really
00:46:51great start by the Sri Lankans
00:46:53they're looking positive
00:46:56look at the crowd
00:46:57they're enjoying every minute of it
00:46:59wide delivery
00:47:00the third man was wide as well
00:47:01so there was no chance
00:47:03for a third man to cut that off
00:47:05fielder to cut that off
00:47:22Duranga is on 31 of the 30 deliveries
00:47:26it's a very elegant player
00:47:28middles the ball every time he plays shot
00:47:31that one cap low
00:47:33on the bounce to the keeper
00:47:35maybe a little bit of inside edge
00:47:39umpire doesn't signal anything
00:47:40so it was clearly off the bat
00:47:44that is a real problem for the team's
00:47:46batting second
00:47:48a little bit of pitch explosion as well
00:47:50the ball keeping low
00:47:51a little bit of uncertainty in the mind
00:47:54of the batsman
00:47:55how to deal with this
00:47:56you're playing against Kenya
00:47:58it was a big inside edge
00:48:00for some odd reason
00:48:01umpire didn't see it
00:48:02that one
00:48:03that one
00:48:05passed the slip man
00:48:07for four
00:48:08so good result for the ranger
00:48:09of the last ball of that over
00:48:10it's 96 for one
00:48:11scoring comparison
00:48:20look at Sri Lankans
00:48:21they're going up and
00:48:22Kenyan started off well
00:48:23they have a big party show
00:48:2494 and then
00:48:25four wickets
00:48:26by
00:48:40by
00:48:56and they have a big one
00:48:57up and so far
00:48:59although I don't think
00:49:00I'll be entirely happy
00:49:01until they do this sort of thing
00:49:02against one of the better sides
00:49:03this is not really the test they want
00:49:06in respective finding out exactly where they are
00:49:10where they are I'll come back to the second yes they
00:49:19will and that gets them to the hundred and that's the fastest hundred in this
00:49:26World Cup
00:49:28the cricket has gone dry this was down next side comfortable two runs by the
00:49:38captain and under the fastest in this World Cup they're looking better Sri
00:49:42Lankans solid is the word full-toss that's that'll be the boundary
00:49:50but not a very great delivery no full-toss straight and Sangakara is such a
00:49:55glass plate it's not gonna leave on these deliveries
00:50:01that's the good thing about Sangakara is he doesn't try and hit it too hard he
00:50:05just times it really I mean you're dead right it was a full toss they still have
00:50:09to be in for four he doesn't try and blast it he just watched it right onto the
00:50:12bat straight down the ground knowing full well if he gets it nice and straight
00:50:16you'll get four
00:50:19on these grounds you don't need to hit them out just need to hit them in the
00:50:27gap and they'll run away to the boundary
00:50:31the zone to be four for one
00:50:36lovely timing back for the second he certainly likes it in that area
00:50:47the moment of the day without any shadow of a doubt was Lasset Malinga and his hat-trick this is what happened beautiful bowling there up comes the feed
00:50:54go the first one was LBW that one well he just wasn't quick enough to get his bat down the stumps go all over the place and that was number three stumps down again beautiful bowling by Lasset Malinga and it's something that'll be talked about here for a while a hat-trick in a world cup
00:51:16it's wide and what's more they get runs of it
00:51:27might have been trying to bowl one of those slow bounces
00:51:34possibly a great delivery
00:51:46well having shown you a sit the lingers hat-trick
00:51:50have a look at all six
00:51:53hit him on the pad down he went
00:51:57and that was one of those whip-snorting in-swingers
00:52:00it's a baseball stunt
00:52:01it wasn't a bad delivery either
00:52:02fast
00:52:03and LBW that one stunts again
00:52:06he really did keep him up and straight
00:52:09stunts again
00:52:10and
00:52:11stunts again
00:52:13well he got six wickets he didn't need his fieldsman no catches
00:52:18there were four of them bowled and two LBW
00:52:21sight to watch
00:52:25beautifully played shot there's six runs from the Soba
00:52:29under and ten
00:52:32for one Sri Lanka
00:52:34well it looks as if we're going to see the batting power play now
00:52:39so that makes it a little bit more difficult for Kenya
00:52:41going to keep their fieldsman up
00:52:53well that'll go to the boundary for four just a little bit of room and
00:52:57it gives Tarangar a little bit of room on the offside and he has no trouble
00:53:03there's the danger
00:53:08if you have back legs side field if you bowl there
00:53:11you're going to get hit
00:53:13especially against the likes of Sri Lanka and Ladsman
00:53:16who are so good either side of the wicket
00:53:19Colin Zaboya getting a trundle after making a half century with the bat
00:53:33he's going to bowl his leg spinners
00:53:35see the look on Sangekara's face when he missed that he realised that there was an easy pour
00:53:49the backwards square leg so if he had got it fine like he was intending
00:53:53the way to the boundary
00:54:09oh that's a huge full toss
00:54:11it'll go for four and would seem to me to be
00:54:15way above waist height anyhow
00:54:25that was that was a gift for Sangekara
00:54:27I think it was the attempt of wrong and we'll never know because it didn't land
00:54:33I think it's going to turn there for the prior part too short
00:55:03oh boy there's some there's a champion as well
00:55:07Aravinda da Silva
00:55:09the Ranger Fernando
00:55:11what a player Aravinda was
00:55:13and who will ever forget that knock in 96 in the final
00:55:21yeah great hundred in the final to win the title for Sri Lanka
00:55:25leading Australia
00:55:27really disciplined
00:55:29and very effective knock that one
00:55:31you've knocked that one
00:55:37ohhh
00:55:39good one Robbie
00:55:41coming back just trying to heave up on
00:55:43heave on the onside
00:55:45that's one
00:55:47twenty two for one
00:55:49yeah
00:55:59yeah Aravinda we were just talking about Aravinda being the hero of the 96 final for Sri Lanka
00:56:05partnership now
00:56:07partnership now with the 51 of this pair
00:56:17oh that's lovely beautifully played straight down the ground
00:56:19don't get him much straighter than that that was almost over the top of the stumps down the far end
00:56:23lovely shot
00:56:29really controlled locked the shot
00:56:33didn't try and hit it too hard at all just timed it
00:56:37and very close to fearing the rope
00:56:39and very close to fearing the rope
00:56:41the
00:56:43for one
00:56:45I don't
00:56:47go
00:56:49thanks
00:56:51that single and of course that brings up what it gets two actually for some overthrows
00:56:55overthrows, and that brings up a well-made half-century.
00:57:04Fairly weary fielding.
00:57:07Ranga just pushing that into the covers, and even
00:57:10the ladies call.
00:57:16Arabinder, they're sitting next to
00:57:19Ranjit Fernanda, who played in the first World Cup in 75 for Sri Lanka.
00:57:25Down the wicket he goes again, and that one inside-out
00:57:30went like a rocket to the boundary.
00:57:35So, they're flying along now.
00:57:42Having got his 50, Tarunga's decided to finish this in a hurry.
00:57:48Nine fours in his 55.
00:57:55That's a lovely shot.
00:58:09It's a batting power player for us, all the fusion back on the onside.
00:58:12Anything over the offside is four.
00:58:14Oh, that's a lovely cut as well.
00:58:20Just a little bit short.
00:58:23Upul Tarunga making hay.
00:58:28Well, he should get a nice little nod out here now.
00:58:31He's moved along to 59.
00:58:32And, uh, really is showing a lot of confidence.
00:58:40Placement is excellent.
00:58:48That's six now for a win.
00:58:50Over the top he goes, uh, just, uh, over the infield there.
00:58:59Bouncing the way down towards the boundary.
00:59:01Will it get there?
00:59:02Oh, I think it, uh, rolled in.
00:59:05Yes.
00:59:06Well, certainly the field's been rolled into the boundary.
00:59:08So, that's four of the six needed.
00:59:10That means Sri Lanka need two to win.
00:59:111.41 for one.
00:59:12So, the scores are now leveled.
00:59:38Almost as though, uh, Sankakara wanted Tarunga to hit the winning runs.
00:59:42That's over the top.
00:59:51Very well struck.
00:59:53It bounces away down to the boundary for four.
00:59:55Tarunga is 67 not out.
00:59:58Sankakara 27 not out.
01:00:01And, uh, the score won 46 for one.
01:00:05The third time Sri Lanka have won a World Cup match by nine wickets all the time.
01:00:10Any question marks over the Sri Lankan batting raised by Pakistan were never likely to be evident against the Kenyan bowling attack.
01:00:23Upal Tarunga helped himself to his fourth World Cup 50 and saw them home comfortably once Tilakaratna Dilshin had been surprised by the extra bounce of Elijah Atiano.
01:00:32And that was the only breakthrough for the Kenyans, whose attack looks severely lacking in firepower.
01:00:38Their surprise win over Sri Lanka back in the 2003 World Cup seems a very distant memory now.
01:00:44So nine wickets, the margin for victory for Kumar Sangakara's men.
01:00:49The captain delighted that the team responded to their defeat on Sunday.
01:00:53Yeah, I thought it was important the way we came back from Saturday.
01:00:57It was a close game, unfortunate to have lost that.
01:00:59But here I think, you know, we showed that we're still a good side.
01:01:03We're mentally strong.
01:01:04And we came out and finished the game pretty well.
01:01:07There were a few frustrating periods, especially when that partnership was building.
01:01:11Yeah, you know, we were trying to pick up wickets early on and it seemed clear that they were trying to bat 50 overs.
01:01:17Then we just, you know, tried to stop as many runs as we could and keep them down so that the wickets would come at the end.
01:01:22And lastly, as usual, you know, the champion that he is, the ball reversing, he did a great job for us.
01:01:27Couple of days off, looking forward to Saturday?
01:01:30Yeah, you know, Saturday's going to be a big game for us.
01:01:33And hopefully we can keep improving, make sure that we have a lot more energy on the field
01:01:36and hopefully do well enough to beat Australia.
01:01:39So Sri Lanka go top of Group A, thanks to that crushing victory
01:01:45and have significantly improved their net run rate as well.
01:01:48Big wins like today's could well be important when the final standings are sorted out.
01:01:54Well, there's only one place to start.
01:01:56What a performance by Lasith Malinga.
01:01:59Yeah, well, he takes the pitch out of play and the pitch conditions out of play, doesn't he?
01:02:05And you get these very accurate, tailing, reversing yorkers, ball after ball and at pace.
01:02:14So the batsman, he hasn't got time to adjust stroke at all.
01:02:19So, I mean, he's a very dangerous customer.
01:02:22He actually attributes it to bowling with a tennis ball down in the south by Gaul.
01:02:28And Ramanayaka was a former Sri Lankan bowler.
01:02:31Saw him and thought, there we are, he's the boy for us.
01:02:35And they tried to straighten him up, actually, but he lost his accuracy and his pace.
01:02:39So back he went.
01:02:40He's also, I think, if you do try and get forward,
01:02:44he'll bowl a skiddy bouncer at you as well that comes through kind of shoulder high.
01:02:49And so he's an awkward customer.
01:02:51You look and see where he's actually hitting the ground here.
01:02:55I mean, ball after ball.
01:02:58Yeah, well, Rob, you've played with him down at Kent.
01:03:00Just explain from a close-up view, why is he so awkward to face?
01:03:04Well, he's obviously got a different action.
01:03:05He almost bowls from straight in front of the umpire,
01:03:07somewhere that only Warn almost delivered the ball from there.
01:03:10And the one thing he does, it's almost hard for him not to bowl at the stump,
01:03:13especially to right-handers.
01:03:15If he's got to try and get it outside off stump to you,
01:03:16the ball's going way across from you and it's almost a wide,
01:03:19so he's dead straight all the time.
01:03:21And at the death, he's one of the best in four-day cricket.
01:03:23He wasn't the best bowler for us almost.
01:03:25He never really ever hits the seam.
01:03:27He always hits the rough side of the ball,
01:03:29which then helps him to get good reverse swings.
01:03:31So if you've got him in your team,
01:03:32you almost bowl him in the longer form of the game for the reverse swing
01:03:35because he always lands the ball on the rough.
01:03:37And that helps his swing.
01:03:38And on slow pitches with a softer ball,
01:03:40that little bit of reverse, good pace, good slow ball, good bouncer,
01:03:43and he's right honing in on the stumps and on the Yorker every single time.
01:03:47And the Kenyans are always going to struggle with that
01:03:49because they struggle against the New Zealanders doing it to him.
01:03:51But Malinga's the best in the world at bowling it full and straight.
01:03:54And it appears, Jeremy, that hat-tricks are like buses.
01:03:57You wait a long time for them and then two come along at once.
01:03:59Yeah, exactly.
01:04:00This one, there were similarities that they both bowled straight.
01:04:03A lot of LBWs and bowls for both Roach and also Malinga.
01:04:07The lengths were slightly different.
01:04:09I thought in Delhi yesterday, it was just back of a length.
01:04:14They were just a little fuller than that.
01:04:15These ones, of course, were very full.
01:04:17Does that make this one slightly more impressive?
01:04:19Well, I thought actually Premadasa looked a belter of a wicket.
01:04:23I mean, Murali, even though, you know, with all his guile and so on,
01:04:28I mean, I know Kenya was obdurate and trying to just keep him out.
01:04:32And there was overwhelming torpor going on in my house, I've got to say.
01:04:37But that aside, I thought he was terrific today
01:04:42and he's going to trouble a few better players.
01:04:45And are they a very different side without him?
01:04:47He didn't play in the first two games, of course.
01:04:49Yeah, I don't think they're a very different side.
01:04:50They're still a good team and they needed a good win here
01:04:52and they needed Malinga to come to the party.
01:04:54He's been injured a little bit now.
01:04:56But we've seen in this tournament, in the subcontinent,
01:04:58good death bowling, good bowling in the power plays.
01:05:01It's so crucial.
01:05:01That was a difference, really.
01:05:02That's what got India back in the game against England.
01:05:04That's what got Breslin in his wickets
01:05:05and got England in the game in the first part of that match.
01:05:08So good death bowling is crucial.
01:05:10That's almost more important than any part of the game
01:05:12as we're seeing so far.
01:05:14As far as Kenya are concerned, Jeremy,
01:05:16I'm afraid they look massively out of their depth at the moment, don't they?
01:05:19Well, they got 69 in the first game they played in 112.
01:05:24So they do have trouble with defence.
01:05:26Why would therefore you decide to bat first in this game?
01:05:31So I have a little problem with that.
01:05:35Yeah, they just struggle in all departments.
01:05:37So Sri Lanka's World Cup campaign seems to be back on track.
01:05:42After the break, we'll see how England's...
01:05:44...
01:05:49...
01:05:51...
01:05:51...
01:05:52...
01:05:52...
