00:00A few summers ago, my old phone of two years began ringing.
00:13I had a new one, but my old one rang.
00:16I had to dig through my closet to even find it.
00:19A private number was calling the phone.
00:22I answered it thinking it could have been an old friend who didn't have my new number yet.
00:27But it was a man with a strange accent I didn't recognize.
00:31He knew my name, knew my story, knew where I lived, etc.
00:36I was genuinely worried, so I asked him how he got all this information.
00:40He said we had met the night before at a house party, which I was at one, but I was with my friends, and I wasn't even drunk.
00:47I remember the whole night.
00:50We went back and forth for a few minutes, when he told me to meet him down by the river in five minutes and hung up.
00:56I knew exactly where he meant.
00:58I'm not usually easily intimidated, but this had me panicking.
01:03I asked my friends who went to the party with me if they were playing a prank, and they told me they were being serious about it not being them.
01:09I knew they were being genuine too, because they all offered to show up to the river with me to see who it was.
01:14There were five of us that went.
01:17We pulled up at a distance and slowly started walking to the spot described over the phone.
01:23It was dark and hard to see anything.
01:26But on the other side of the river bank, we could all see a white van with tinted windows parked on the side of the road.
01:32It wasn't on, but it was still weird because no one ever parked here.
01:37There was no reason to.
01:38There was nothing nearby.
01:40We started walking up to it, and that's when the engine started and the headlights turned on.
01:45We all turned, running into a field where it couldn't follow us.
01:50Did this have anything to do with the phone call?
01:53I can't be sure, but I personally think it did.
02:00I recently listed my PS3 for sale on Craigslist.
02:04It came with a ton of games, and I wasn't asking for much, so I got calls all the time.
02:09This time, I got a call in the complete dead of night.
02:13It was like 3.30am when I woke up to my ringtone.
02:17Yeah, I would get a lot of calls, but I had never gotten one this late in the night before.
02:22I was still half asleep when I picked up the phone.
02:26Immediately, this normal-sounding guy started talking to me.
02:30He said he was calling about the PS3 I listed, and offered something crazy like $5 for the whole thing.
02:37I mumbled something about how that was way too low.
02:41It went silent for a few seconds, when out of nowhere this text-to-speech robotic-sounding voice started listing off extremely personal information.
02:50Way more than what was public on my Craigslist account.
02:54It listed where I lived, the school I went to, the car I drove, the names of all my family members, and a lot of other stuff.
03:02I sat up panicked and hung up the phone.
03:05I got an immediate call back from the number, but this time I didn't answer.
03:10Just something about the way it switched from a normal-sounding guy to all of a sudden a text-to-speech voice still freaks me out.
03:18Thankfully, nothing else ever happened.
03:21I have no idea how this guy was able to get my personal information.
03:25This happened when I was 13 and home alone.
03:32I got a phone call.
03:34I was greeted with a man's voice.
03:36Hi, I sell security systems.
03:39Are your parents home?
03:40I replied saying no.
03:42Does your house have a security system?
03:45Again, I said no because it didn't.
03:48Okay.
03:49The phone line went dead.
03:53I quickly realized my mistake and checked the locks on all the doors and windows.
03:58After I made sure everything was locked, I grabbed a kitchen knife and locked myself in my bedroom.
04:03My bedroom had a window that faced outside the front of the house.
04:07I live in a cul-de-sac, but since it was a work day, none of my neighbors were home.
04:13Still, there was a car I didn't recognize parked down the road.
04:17I called the cops and kept my eyes on it while I waited for them to show up.
04:22Suddenly, a man ran out of a bush just in front of our house and towards the car.
04:27He got in and immediately drove off.
04:29I saw all of it.
04:31When police arrived, I told them about the man and showed them the bush he was hiding in.
04:36The bush was just under our house's dining room window.
04:40There were clear marks of someone trying to break into it.
04:47I was in my early teenage years and had just recently gotten my first phone.
04:51I got a call from an unknown caller.
04:54Nowadays, I'm much more cautious in answering these, but back then I didn't fully understand the concept of phones and answered to pretty much anyone that called.
05:02I picked up and instantly didn't recognize the voice.
05:06It sounded like an older man.
05:08I said, who is this?
05:10To which he responded, why do you want to know?
05:13I didn't answer because I thought it was some kind of joke or prank call.
05:18He suddenly broke the silence saying, I can see you.
05:23I responded with something like, nice try, but that's not very original.
05:28Just then, I began to hear a train going by.
05:32My house is right next to a set of train tracks and I swear, over the phone I could hear the same sound of a train passing in the background.
05:41As it got closer, the sound got louder in the phone.
05:44I panicked and hung up.
05:46Nothing further ever happened.
05:49This was either a huge coincidence or I really was being stalked.
05:58Around 30 years ago, I was lying in bed trying to fall asleep beside my wife who had fallen asleep a few hours before.
06:04It was lightly raining outside, which helped me get to that state of half awake, half asleep, when the phone on the nightstand just beside me started ringing.
06:14I slowly sat up and picked up the receiver to determine if it was a fluke or an actual call.
06:19Stuff like that used to happen back then.
06:23I put the phone to my ear and sat in silence as I listened.
06:27It was just white noise.
06:29Until, eventually, I could make out two voices.
06:32Two female voices.
06:34They were talking about a murder that had just occurred.
06:38I remember one of them going on about how they couldn't believe they had really just done it.
06:43This was followed by the other telling her to, quote, get out of there before the police arrived.
06:48They continued talking like this for a while as I just sat there still trying to process what I was hearing.
06:54Suddenly, one of the two asked the other if they heard someone else on the line.
06:58And with that, I hung up.
07:01I still don't know how something like this could have even happened.
07:05Maybe it was a prank call, back before prank calls were even really a thing.
07:10I told my wife about it the following morning.
07:14It was my first time staying home alone, while my whole family was out at my brother's baseball game.
07:23I was 13.
07:25I was on the phone with a friend of mine when someone beeped in on the other line.
07:30I told her I'd be right back and clicked over lines.
07:33I gave a hello.
07:35There was a laugh and then the words,
07:38I'm downstairs in your basement right now.
07:41Honestly, I just shook it off and hung up thinking it was a prank call.
07:46Our neighborhood was pretty safe and so I figured it had to have been someone just messing with me.
07:51I resumed talking with my friend when they beeped in again, so I again clicked over.
07:56This time, I was met with much more aggression.
08:00The voice said something about how I shouldn't have hung up on him and how he was coming upstairs.
08:05Suddenly, the lights downstairs started flickering and there was a banging under my feet.
08:10My dog ran to the corner of the living room.
08:13Now, our basement was actually just an area connected to the garage.
08:16It wasn't finished.
08:18I heard what sounded like footsteps coming up the garage stairs that led into our kitchen, accompanied by yelling.
08:25I kept trying to hang up and call the cops, but every time I tried, he was still on the phone.
08:30I managed to switch back to the line with my friend and told her to get her parents to call the police.
08:36I sat in a locked bedroom on the main floor horrified, quietly crying waiting for them to arrive.
08:43They finally showed up, by which point the man was gone.
08:47There was no sign of forced entry, though the window on our outside garage door had been broken for months prior, and my guess is he used that to get in.
08:56My family was ultimately skeptical, as police couldn't really come up with any solid evidence that this had actually happened.
09:03We did end up getting a security camera and fixed our garage window not too long after that, though.
09:08But I still don't know if they truly believed me or not.
09:15This was back when I still had an old slider phone.
09:18One day, I got a random call asking for some girl named Sarah.
09:22I didn't even know a Sarah, so I told them they had the wrong number, to which they hung up without saying another word.
09:28For the next few months, I would get these same calls asking for Sarah maybe once or twice a week, sometimes at absurd hours in the night.
09:37This one time I got a call.
09:39Like usual, I said I didn't know Sarah.
09:41They hung up, but this time I went to my contacts and hit redial.
09:46After I did this, I was met with the robotic voice saying the number did not exist.
09:52I went back through my call history and tried calling some of the other numbers that had called me, with the same result.
09:58The next time I got a call asking for Sarah, I said,
10:01Oh yeah, she's right here.
10:04The person on the other end didn't hang up right away, but instead said,
10:08No she isn't.
10:10And the line went dead.
10:12After this, I started getting calls now from unknown numbers.
10:16This time there was no voice asking for Sarah.
10:20It was just silence until I said something, then they would hang up.
10:25The creepiest one I ever got was the time they didn't hang up right away after I said hello.
10:30I could hear someone on the other end, breathing, but not saying anything.
10:35There was just something really uneasy about all these calls.
10:39It caused me to get a new phone, after which I stopped getting the weird calls.
10:44I still don't know who this Sarah was, or why I kept getting calls about her.
10:53I was home alone by myself in my basement bedroom.
10:56I was playing games late into the night.
10:59It was like 3am when our house's landline started ringing.
11:03I didn't pick it up.
11:05It rang several more times, and finally the voicemail picked up as I was walking up the stairs to finally answer it.
11:12I would have dismissed it as a prank call if it hadn't been for the voice.
11:17It was shaky and raspy.
11:19It felt real.
11:21I was frozen in place halfway up the stairs listening to it.
11:25The voice was trying to get me to pick up the phone, saying things like I would regret it if I didn't.
11:31Finally it ended, and I prayed that it wouldn't ring again.
11:35It did.
11:37The person left several more voicemails.
11:40They started out timid and shaky, but got more aggressive.
11:44It continued with,
11:46If you don't give me what I want, I'm going to have to hurt you, and I need to get what you owe me.
11:50I'm coming for you right now.
11:52At the end of each of them the dial tone went off, and it went staticky as the voice broke into sobs.
11:58They kept calling and calling.
12:02This experience truly disturbed me.
12:05I mean, imagine being home alone in the middle of the night and hearing this voice coming from an upstairs phone.
12:11Nothing ever came of it though, and so I never told anyone else about it.
12:16I can not have to timid and attach to it but if you don'tsolid, you might have to work this way.
12:18Once again, talk to it myself.
12:20I'll just enter it now.
12:21I'm not back.
12:22I'll just take it back and tell anyone else.
12:23If you want something, once again, talk to me about how you grew up.
12:25I, I'm going to fix it today this morning, and then listen to some things.
12:26Let us know better stories like what My mother, and I'm beginning to know.
12:28This is 200.
