Speaking to CNN's Dana Bash, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was asked about an upcoming meeting between President Trump and Russian President Putin in Alaska.
Transcript
00:00The president announced that Vladimir Putin is going to come to Alaska on August 15th,
00:07and they're going to meet.
00:08First, what's your reaction to Vladimir Putin coming onto American soil for this meeting?
00:15Vladimir Putin is a really awful guy.
00:17You know, when you talk about oligarchs, Putin is one of the richest guys in the world,
00:24running a kleptocratic society, and then he invaded Ukraine.
00:30It was incredible destruction.
00:32I mean, tens and tens and tens of thousands of Russian soldiers have been killed.
00:37People in Ukraine are suffering terribly because this guy wanted to start the largest war since World War II in Europe.
00:46So, you know, I'm not a great fan of Vladimir Putin.
00:50What about the idea of this summit?
00:52It's the bloodshed and the suffering is terrible.
00:55If, in fact, an agreement can be negotiated, which does not compromise what the Ukrainians feel that they need,
01:01I think that's a positive step.
01:03We all want to see an end to the bloodshed.
01:05Do you trust a Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin deal?
01:10Well, it's not like it can't be Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
01:14The people of Ukraine, obviously, have got to have a significant say.
01:18It is their country.
01:19So, if they feel, the people of Ukraine feel that the agreement is positive, that's good.
01:24If not, that's another story.
