During a State Department press briefing on Tuesday, Spokesperson Tammy Bruce was asked if Trump agreeing to meet with Putin in Alaska could be seen as a "victory" for the Russian President.

00:00Thank you so much.
00:01Andrea Mitchell, please.
00:02Andrea Mitchell.
00:03Thank you so much, Tammy, and congratulations on your new adventure.
00:07That's what it will be, I'm sure.
00:08And I have a couple of things to follow up on that.
00:11Yes.
00:12First of all, do we have any update on what Ambassador Huckabee said would be 16 new distribution
00:19centers for food in Gaza, and as the U.S. tries to deal with two wars simultaneously
00:27as part of the challenge that the President is facing?
00:29Right.
00:30MS.
00:31With this summit.
00:32President Zelensky said today that after the overnight attacks, which were throughout
00:37his country, that there is evidence as far as he's concerned that President Putin is not
00:44committed to peace but is committed to a new – to plans for a new offensive against Ukraine.
00:50So going into these negotiations with what President Zelensky says is an imbalance in what
00:58is going on on the battlefield right now, how does the President hope to try to get President
01:07Putin to abandon this commitment that seems obvious from the battlefield by day after day
01:15advancing?
01:16MS.
01:17I'll – let me answer the first question about – first of all, we have nothing else
01:26to announce regarding the Ambassador's remarks about the increase in sites for GHF.
01:33Of course, that would be welcome news, but when we see that we have more, we'll let you know.
01:37I'll remind you also that the President is not calling this a negotiation.
01:42He is not the one that asked for it.
01:44This is what – as I've equated to you before, his remarks were that this is to see what's
01:50happening, to see what's possible.
01:51So negotiation, I think, is certainly not the right word.
01:55How he expects to get to where he gets, I won't have details for you in that regard, but
02:02there's a reason why he's the one there and we aren't.
02:06He is clearly – the list that I read out to you regarding being the President of Peace
02:11is an astounding one.
02:12Perhaps it's situations around the globe that just didn't interest other people.
02:17But for President Trump, everyone matters.
02:20He sees these dynamics, which his presence and the power of the United States is able
02:24to change, and he knows that.
02:26He has many tools in his tool chest.
02:28We know, of course, that he had remarked about secondary sanctions on those who are
02:33buying Russian oil.
02:34That's one thing of many that can happen.
02:36We know, of course, of NATO's commitment regarding defensive weapons and helping and
02:41assisting Ukraine.
02:42There's many things that are moving that should have an impact that President Trump – again,
02:49I don't know what his approach will be.
02:51What I do know is that I'm grateful that he's the President, that I'm able to be here,
02:57read to you a list of ceasefires and peace agreements, and know that he's meeting with
03:03Putin in regard to one of the most outrageous dynamics that we've experienced.
03:08I will also remind people that he has met alone with President Zelensky.
03:13He has met alone with European leaders.
03:16This is a man who is doing everything possible and fairly to get an end to this carnage.
03:21Just a quick follow-up.
03:22Yes, ma'am.
03:23There has been a lot written that by just granting Vladimir Putin, who has been charged with
03:29war crimes by people – by other countries around the world – by granting him a summit
03:36with the leader of the United States on U.S. soil, it's already a victory for Putin because
03:42he is the aggressor here and he has refused to agree to a ceasefire.
03:46Well, Andrea, this will be it.
03:49The President is not operating on what something might look like.
03:56He's operating on how to stop obscene carnage among innocent civilians in Ukraine.
04:04And that is – he took some heat when he started talking to Putin.
04:09Because Biden had to talk to him for three years.
04:11You don't make peace through performative actions or theater.
04:17You make it by talking to people.
04:19And this is what he's committed to.
04:22This is the end goal.
04:23The end goal is not performance or perception.
04:28It's getting the job done.
04:30And I'm honored that I can be here and at least be a part of reminding people because
04:37he's done – we know him.
04:39He's a remarkable achiever, not just in business, but in knowing people and knowing how to get
04:44what he wants.
04:46And he wants peace and he wants an end to carnage around the world.
04:51And this country is in this position now because of him and because of the power of the American
04:55people, and we're going to use it.
04:57And so I'm praying for a good result.
05:00And with President Trump, we very well may get one.
05:02Yes, Daphne.
