Another month, another record broken.
00:05
5,866 hours on the ramp.
00:09
This is a symptom of a system that is completely under stress.
00:14
The government releasing the data as it announced the doubling of capacity for its transition care service,
00:19
moving eligible patients to monitored care in a hotel rather than a hospital bed.
00:24
We're taking every possible measure, whether that's building hundreds of extra hospital beds,
00:28
hiring thousands of extra doctors and nurses or putting people in places like this new Pullman service.
00:35
The government says the record high ramping hours come amid an influx of flu cases
00:40
and a backlog of elderly patients ready for discharge but awaiting an aged care bed.
00:45
That's why we need innovative solutions such as using this hotel to help get people out of hospital in a safe way.
00:52
The AMA says it welcomes any move to reduce pressure on the struggling system.
00:57
But let's be clear, this is not a solution. This is a work around. Hotels are not hospitals.

01:21
Also calling for better GP access and free flu vaccines.
01:25
That would be a fantastic start given we know that nearly 2,000 South Australians have needed hospitalisation
01:31
as a result of the flu this year alone.
01:34
With more than 1,100 new flu cases reported this week alone,
01:38
demand for health services continues to skyrocket quicker than anyone can find solutions.
01:45
But there are also people who can support the health care services.
01:47
That would be a great opportunity to expand and support them.
01:51
