00:00Part of the festival is about what people teach you about love, and what you tell me about love is that it's a choice, so I'm so glad you're choosing me.
00:17This is the amazing moment a fringe performer proposed to their partner live on stage at the Underelli Cowgate.
00:23Sergio Antonio Maggiolo got down on one knee to propose to Guido in the final moments of their show Jesus.
00:30A funny, sharp, Latin-infused musical loosely based on Sergio's experience growing up as a queer person in Latin America.
00:38It's safe to say the crowd had an absolute blast. I caught up with the couple straight after the big moment.
00:46Guido, I'm going to come to you first. Did you have any idea that was going to happen?
00:51No, I didn't. And I'm upset that all of you knew.
00:59No, it was a lovely fucking surprise. I mean, we've been like joking about it, I think, for a bit, but I didn't...
01:07He got a ring from his mom and has had it for six months at home. I was going to say.
01:11This is just a lot.
01:13And Sergio, how long have you been planning this for it? Tell me when you first knew that you wanted to do it.
01:19I was in Peru visiting family in the beginning of the year and I was just talking to family and just...
01:27Yeah, they were asking me if I ever planned to do it. And I think, as Guido said, we've been joking about it.
01:33But I was like, oh, maybe I can. And Guido was visiting Peru. So I was like, oh, maybe I'll do it when he's here.
01:39And then I was like, no, maybe not, maybe later. And then at some point I was like, well, we're going to the fringe.
01:46So it would be a fun thing to do in the fringe.
01:49Yeah. And what was it like sharing that moment with a ring for the people that you didn't know?
01:54Well...
01:55It was a lot. It was a lot. It was very overwhelming.
01:59Well, we usually, we don't do speeches at the end of the show. We usually run away.
02:02I can see it on your face.
02:04I was like, let me run away. And I was like, no, don't run. And I was like, why?
02:08And I also invited some close friends here in Edinburgh to witness.
02:13Everyone knew except for me. I felt like that whole house knew except for me, bastards.
02:18But we, I mean, we absolutely, we love what we do. We love to perform and in a way, yeah.
02:26And in a way we kind of like, you know, we made that connection with the people in the room today.
02:30And I hope they got something. I mean, they definitely were surprised. I hope.
