An undocumented migrant led police from three districts in Sabah on a three-hour chase only to be caught after crashing his van into a tree.

The suspect's van was later found to contain over RM1mil worth of smuggled cigarettes.

00:18The suspect had driven off during an operation near Silam in Lahat Datu at around midnight
00:22on Thursday.
00:24His van was among three that had been stopped by police for inspection.
00:27Sabah Region 4 Marine Police Commander ACP Nazri Ibrahim said some of the personnel in
00:32the operation stayed back to inspect the other two vans, while the rest gave chase.
00:37The driver drove towards Kunak, prompting police from the Kunak station to join in the chase.
00:42Despite the pursuit vehicles blaring sirens and repeated calls on their loudspeakers for
00:46him to pull over, the suspect continued speeding towards Tawao.
00:50Police from the Tawao station were then roped in to join in the chase.
00:53Finally, after three hours, the driver crashed into a tree as they entered Kampung Titingan.
00:58ACP Nazri said the suspect tried to flee on foot and was eventually caught.
01:03His van was later found to contain over 1 million ringgit worth of smuggled cigarettes.
01:08Contraband cigarettes were also found in the other two vans, bringing the total value of
01:12the seizure to 3.09 million ringgit.
01:15All three drivers were arrested, while the contraband was taken to the Marine Police Base for further
01:19investigation.
