00:00I'm the mayor of the city of New York, Mayor Eric Adams.
00:02Thank you so much, DA, and thanks to HSI.
00:06When I visited the Custom Border Patrol officer in the hospital with his family,
00:11his family members, a member of the FDNY, his parents,
00:16no one wants to stand in front of a hospital bed
00:18after going through such a horrific act of violence in that place.
00:24Early this morning, I joined the district attorney
00:27and the three other district attorneys in the city
00:30to talk about the funding that we placed in each one of our district attorney offices.
00:37And just a few moments ago, I left a graduation class
00:40of close to 1,000 young men and women who have joined the police department.
00:46When you add those two dynamics in our collaboration,
00:49this is the results we get.
00:51A quick apprehension, coordinating with our federal partners
00:56to go in after dangerous people,
00:58and it should not be lost on all of us
01:01that the individuals who are involved were using a scooter.
01:05This has become a tool of violent crimes,
01:09and that's why we removed 100,000 off our streets.
01:13These illegal scooters are being used for quick getaways.
01:17It makes it challenging for police officers
01:19to make an apprehension when they are weaving in and out of traffic.
01:23But when you have both proactive and reactive responses,
01:27this is how we are bringing down crime
01:30and removing these guns off the street.
01:33And as the DA pointed out,
01:35I think it's significant that they committed a robbery,
01:38planned to do another robbery,
01:39and if our Custom Border Patrol officer
01:42and his quick response did not take action,
01:45we don't know how many more victims we would have had.
01:48the small number of individuals
01:50who are repeated criminal offenders
01:53and carry out dangerous acts.
01:55And so we want to thank this office
01:57for bringing this indictment
02:00and bringing these two individuals to justice.
02:03They were dangerous.
02:04They did not care who they were harming on our streets,
02:07and it is imperative that this apprehension was made.
02:11And again, it's the collaboration that you're seeing
02:15with our federal partners, the NYPD, and this office
02:19that we are continuously bringing dangerous people to justice.
02:23Thank you, District Attorney.
02:24I have to take off to another event,
02:26but I want to be here for this.
02:27Thank you very much.
