00:00August 5th has marked two years since the detention of Pakistan's most popular political
00:12leader, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, following a predetermined, unjust verdict
00:17by Judge Dilawra in a kangaroo court.
00:19Mr Khan was initially held in a high-security prison in Attac, where he was denied his basic
00:24fundamental rights, which are accorded to every prisoner in keeping with the jail manual.
00:29In October of 2023, Imran Khan was moved to Rawalpindi's maximum security at Yala Jail,
00:34where he was locked away in a tiny windowless cell where he has recently faced severe violations
00:39of the United Nations' Nelson Mandela rules.
00:43The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detentions determined that Mr Khan's incarceration
00:48is unlawful, arbitrary and politically motivated.
00:52A high turnout and high passion were witnessed in several cities around the world as overseas
00:57Pakistanis responded to Imran Khan's call for global protests.
01:02The injustice against the hero of Pakistan that has made his country proud all over the
01:05world is being recognized.
01:08Protesters demanded an end to human rights violations including transnational repression and the
01:13release of all political prisoners including the arbitrarily detained former Prime Minister,
01:18cricketing hero and philanthropist Imran Khan.
01:20A record-breaking protest took place at 10 Downing Street, London.
01:25Many other cities in Europe including Paris, Brussels, Athens, Frankfurt, Brescia, Amsterdam,
01:32Oslo, Stockholm and Dublin held protests throughout the week.
01:36In North America, large protests were held in several major cities including Mississauga,
01:41New York, Calgary, Houston, Dallas, Sacramento and in front of the Pakistan Embassy in Washington,
01:45India.
01:46Pakistani Americans came together in Chicago for a huge car rally that saw hundreds of
01:51vehicles displaying pictures of Imran Khan along with Pakistan and PTI flags.
02:04Hundreds of thousands of supporters of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan rallied across
02:08the country to demand his release on the second anniversary of his imprisonment.
02:13Hundreds of peoples were arrested a day before the call for nationwide protests, numerous
02:18homes were invaded in midnight raids and party supporters were forced to sign affidavits
02:23that they would not join protests.
02:25PTI's MNAs were locked inside the parliament to prevent them from joining party workers.
02:31Party leaders, including the elderly Rehana Dar, were violently arrested in Punjab under
02:36the illegitimate Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's watch.
02:39Police officers armed with heavy bamboo batons were seen smashing the windows of vehicles
02:44of Imran Khan's supporters.
02:46Despite the regime's brutality, Pakistanis from across the country creme out in droves to
02:51demand the release of the country's most popular political leader and the return of their stolen
02:55mandate.
02:56While the local media was made to blackout visuals and news of the protests, international media
03:01has widely reported on these protests.
