00:00I think it shows staggering hypocrisy.
00:02Rishnara Ali has been somebody who was obviously a government minister in charge of homelessness.
00:08She's spoken out about exploited tenants, about providing more protections for tenants.
00:14You can't say those things, then do the opposite in practice as a landlord.
00:18She's got to resign.
00:20Was her conduct illegal or just unethical?
00:23I think as the law stands today, it was unethical, not illegal.
00:27But you can't just say one thing and do another.
00:30And that's what we see time and time again from some Labour ministers, saying one thing and doing another.
00:36So you're not bound by the law to follow it to the left of the law.
00:40If you can do the right thing by tenants, which most landlords in this country do,
00:45what Rishnara Ali has done is she's increased the rent deliberately by around 20%, by £700 a month.
00:53So that seemed extremely unfair. The tenant wanted another tenancy and that could have been assessed by an independent tribune.
01:00But no, she decided to kick these tenants out, four tenants, and put new people in so she could have more money every month.
